APD Arrests Murder Suspect

On October 4, 2023, at around 10:45 PM, officers responded to a person down call at 470 Flat Shoals Avenue, in Southeast Atlanta. Upon arrival, officers located 21-year-old Chavion Smith with multiple lacerations. Mr. Smith was transported to Grady Hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Atlanta Police Homicide Investigators responded to the scene and began their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicated the incident was the result of a larceny from auto crime where the victim pursued the suspect and it appears the suspect stabbed the victim. Homicide Investigators were able to identify 36-year-old Landon Gibson as the suspect in Mr. Smith's death. Investigators secured warrants charging Mr. Gibson with murder, aggravated assault and entering automobile. On February 1, 2024, Investigators with the Atlanta Police Department's Fugitive Unit responded to a home on Marco Drive, in Northwest Atlanta. Investigators had information that Landon Gibson was at the location. As investigators gathered at the front of the home, Gibson exited a rear door and immediately encountered officers behind the residence. Gibson complied with officers and was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Gibson was taken to the DeKalb County Jail on his warrants.
