RIP - Rest In Power: the great Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez has left this plane, 1945-2024, but thankfully left us with a LOT of great music and masterful bongo magic.

For those watching this amazing tutorial, You can slow down the playback speed to 2 times slower. You find those settings on the gear symbol right next to the close caption CC icon. That way you can see his hands movements in slow motion. It helped me a lot.

That's crazy! My father played with him when they both played with Tito Puente... My dad's name is Victor Cruz who also played with Ceila Cruz right up to when she passed away. He also was part of the All Stars.

Buen trabajo Eric. Gracias
@Roberto-lb5or4 жыл бұрын
Don't forget the origin of all these rhytms is Cuba!!

Very interesting alternative take on the martillo, I really didn’t know there were variations on it. Luckily I got to see Dandy in the 80s at SOBs here in NYC when I was in my early 20s, with Charlie Palmieri. I was floored, I simply couldn’t believe the pop and tones he pulled out of the bongo. Arguably the greatest ever on the instrument, maybe?
