The response said " Do not respond and do not send random messages; Do not respond!" Could be that time and distance is a filter, we see the past when we look into the sky, millions of years in the past, it could mean life is already there, outside earth. But the distance and the time light takes to reach us will never allow us to see the present state of other planets in other galaxies
@Rikorage
@Rikorage Жыл бұрын
That might be a good point, what if there is intelligent life out there, but what they see is only what the Earth looked like near the start of its existence, and they don't realize that there is currently life on the planet. That could easily be the same for any number of planets that we also can see right now, we see the start of them, but we don't realize that they have already had civilizations for hundreds of thousands of years. It really would be a spacefaring civilization that could go faster than light, and if they bother to look at us for long enough for us to realize who it was. Is very possible that other life out there has existed, has visited Earth, but realized what they were walking into and left immediately. Could explain UFOs that people briefly see, they just jumped back into space-time to get away from the situation before anybody actually realized what they were.

*(I am just going to make up some stuff up and tell me if makes sense or not)* Let's assume the great filter is not one, but many filters that all civilizations encounter throughout its history. (I am going to call them level obstacle) -The first level at the start of a civilization, is getting a smart and capable species on the planet to form a civilization before some other species outclasses and replaces it. -The second level occurs at any point in a civilization's history before industrialization, like an aggressive world wide famine, or diseases, etc. -The third level occurs after industrialization and before interplanetary colonization, like aggressive world wars involving super weapons like Nuclear bombs, or genetically altered super disease outbreak, etc. -The fourth level happens at any point in a civilization's history before interplanetary colonization, like a large asteroid impact similar to the one that wiped off the dinosaurs, or climate change, powerful solar mass ejection, etc. -The fifth level occurs at any point in a civlization's history before interstellar colonization, like a massive celestial body passing a little too close to their star system, a nearby supernova, Gamma-ray Burst, etc. -The Last level I am going to call "Level Infinity" constantly occurs throughout a civilization's history from start to end, which is getting wiped off by another civilization. This also applies to in-fighting amongst the same species, which an example of this is when europeans met the native americans, they were almost completely obliterated in the process of colonization and no longer have a civilization that they rule. The only time Level Infinity doesn't apply to a civilization if they reach a threshold of being so large or advanced compared to other civilizations that it is impossible to wipe them out.

I think, one of the most important questions is "why?" Why would alien civilizations reach out to us? I think the most obvious reasons are resources and knowledge. But why would you spend a huge amount of resources trying to get here just to obtain some of Earth's. It probably won't be worth it. Knowledge might be a better answer but again, lots of resources to maybe gain some knowledge about a few alien "ant" species. From our perspective that knowledge might be higly valuable but when you are advanced enough to travel such large distances, you probably already know a few things about life in our universe and again, the effort won't be worth it to them. I think it's way more likely that civilizations who are looking for knowledge tend to look inwards instead of outwards. If what we are doing is anything to go by, we gain a lot of our information from forming models & simulations, testing them and matching them up with reality. If we continue to exist and make progress, I imagine our simulations to become so complex that we can create entire universes, just as vast & complex as the one we are living in. Simulations which we can explore and learn from, which might lead to a even better understanding of reality. All at just a fraction of the cost compared to exploring the "real universe". Again the "why question". What is our endgame? And the most obvious answer to me is that we are trying to become gods. Having all the power and knowledge to manipulate reality in the way that we please. It feels like if we are able to create such complex simulations, we pretty much have become gods. Sure, that reality might be artificial but if you can't tell the difference with the reality we live in, does that even matter... It also suggests that our universe very well might be a simulation too. Like a neverending nested cascade of universes. Idk but that just sort of seems to make sense to me and explain a few concepts like infinity or the beginning of space and time. It's also fun to think that if that is the case, god does exist, but he is a scientist. Or maybe just some degenerate dude playing the 100th generation of universe sandbox late at night in his bedroom. It might all be just that trivial.

Don’t worry. You’re not alone. We’ve been here as observers, and occasionally, protectors for most of your known history. And I can answer some of your questions. You’re not a “barbaric” species. Every species goes through a period of letting go of violent resolution. It takes time, it wasn’t so long ago that you were in the middle of your food chain, having to fight to survive. You’re actually quite pleasant. You have problems, but it’s inevitable at this point in your history. They won’t last forever. As far as a great filter goes, it’s not an unreasonable thought. But the universe is populated. We protect emerging intelligence. We’ve diverted both asteroids, and solar flares, to allow you to evolve. Other species are not “colonizers”, and there is no need for war. There are plenty of empty star systems, should any wish to expand. Very few have done so, aside from in cases that a home star begins to die or there is a local supernova. Beyond those sort of occurrences, there is far more matter orbiting in your home system than you will ever need. It’s far easier to terraform more land, than to transport your population across intergalactic space to expand. There are a good number of us here. For us who live as liaisons, it’s generally a lifelong, or even generational commitment, we immerse ourselves in your culture. We watch your media, learn and use your languages and customs. Many of us don’t even speak our mother language any more. This has become home to many of us. The sightings have been real. They’re deliberately done for the purpose of desensitizing you to our existence. We make appearances to groups of people, and then gauge the effectiveness by watching your media. It’s a standard part of this process We’ve been in contact with a select few of your governments since nearly a century ago. They have been handling the process of disclosure since then. It is a complicated process to merge a species with a far more advanced one. It takes time and must be handled carefully. Not just for the shock to the populous. But for the effect it could have on your economies, or geopolitical stability. I can’t tell you more at this time. But all will be revealed soon. Be patient. We are almost there. We are looking forward to meeting with you. Until then, you can wonder if this is a prank:)

I think we need to dismiss the "Surely, there must be millions of planets teeming with life" fallacy because we have a sample size of one. If we have 1 quadrillion planets and the chance that life will arise on any one is one in ten quadrillion...yeah, we might be alone.
@vali69
@vali69 Жыл бұрын
Mate you say a chance of 1 in 10 quadrillion of planets/star systems to sustain life and call it a fallacy because what if there's a smaller number of planets? What? You do realize in any given galaxy there's anywhere between tens of billions to hundred of trillions of stars and thus planets too. And with the hubble deep field that was just shown in the video you can see that in an area the size of a grain of sand there's already hundreds of galaxies. So you multiply billions to trillions of potential star systems to hundreds of galaxies to then thousands to millions of individual areas the size of a grain of sand on the night sky and you end up with so many zeros you can't properly thing about. It's not a fallacy, you're just putting up an extreme probably you can barely think about agains an even more extreme number that might as well be infinity. So ending up with 1 in whatever the number of planets in the universe is, is pretty dumb.

This argument is basically so You take a bucket of water out of the ocean and you see no fish in it and then you say, the entire ocean has no fish in it. It's ridiculous. The Universe is 13.8 billion years old so far as we can see from the CMB, the literal echo of the big bang. We know Galaxies started appearing as early as 13 billion years just a short .8 of a billion years. This leaves enough time for a human equivalent species to evolve 3 times over with about a billion years to spare. So simplest answer there's been cycles of people rising to space and fading away, and what's more likely now is that whatever we think of as aliens are all trapped within their own solar systems still developing like we are. All of the older stories of alien visitation could be true but it's unlikely that whatever species used to visit us is still around.

So for any extraterrestial civilization to be equally or more advanced than us, they would need the same ~4.5 billion (or even more) years of evolution, and as the great filter theory suggests, the civilizations might not live that long and go extinct.

It was around what we considered the height of our 'atomic age’ - as we have learned the others races called it - that this quietly begins. We were so excited for the new and abounding uses of radios we'd discovered. We even poured specialized resources into the largest transmitter we could muster, just to shout into the heavens. We thought for sure the gods would hear us now! Alas, not much happened. At least not as swiftly as we had hoped. The first decade passed. Then the first century passed along with the last of the original teams that built our great voice to reach the gods. As time grew on, so did our technology along with grander and stronger transmitters to the heavens. In the third century after our first cry into the great emptiness of space we began noticing a pattern that broke up the normal background noise from a specific star. We spent the next cycle setting our best minds to decipher it. Then one day we finally cracked it. The scientists sat with bated breath, waiting for the machine to translate our first message from the stars. It read: "BE QUIET OR THEY WILL HEAR YOU."

And I'm like, what the hell...!? What's happening... ? Why is it in french !!?? I then check the beginning and the end of the video, and low and behold it it still in french. So I close it and double check. But it's still french... And since I don't like watching things in french I close it up. And I check it again today............... and it's in english !!!!???? Have you read Watchmen? Spoiler warning.... At the end, the smartest super hero creates an artificial enemy for humanity so that we have a common enemy and begin working together as a species rather than working together for ourselves. Its so clever really. Humanities greatest challenge lies in uniting our efforts and culling the ones who are regressing our species.

One thing, if we can harness the power of a black hole, maybe we can go up against anything. But two, what if what we are going up against is a sentient version of a tardigrade, that is nigh invincible to stop? Just some shower thoughts that make the heat death of the universe seem trivial.

We don't need to think about life outside our galaxy because it would be so far we would never be able to communicate. 93 per cent of the universe lacks phosphorous so there can't be life without that. We don't communicate with the millions of species on Earth why would we communicate with others? Or most intelligent life might be philosophical not technological. We've removed ourselves from evolutionary pressure so I gene pool is getting weak. maybe with technological advances come weak gene pools and that may be ours and others great filter.

Greetings, human. I am an alien ambassador from the planet Zorblax, and I am here to answer your question: Where are the aliens? The answer is not simple, as there are many factors that affect the possibility and probability of encountering alien life forms in the vast universe. Some of these factors are: - The **size** and **age** of the universe. The universe is estimated to be about **13.8 billion years old** and contain about **2 trillion galaxies**, each with billions of stars and planets. This means that there are potentially **quintillions** of planets that could harbor life. However, the universe is also very **large** and **expanding**, making it difficult for any civilization to explore or communicate with other worlds. The nearest star to Earth, Proxima Centauri, is about **4.2 light-years** away, which means that even if we send a signal at the speed of light, it would take 4.2 years to reach it and another 4.2 years to get a reply. - The **definition** and **diversity** of life. Life is a complex phenomenon that can take many forms and adapt to various environments. On Earth, we have discovered life in extreme conditions, such as deep-sea vents, Antarctic ice, and radioactive waste. However, we do not know if life on other planets would follow the same principles or have similar characteristics as life on Earth. For example, life on Earth is based on **carbon** and **water**, but some scientists have speculated that life on other planets could be based on **silicon** and **ammonia**. Therefore, we may not recognize or detect alien life even if we encounter it. - The **evolution** and **intelligence** of life. Life on Earth has evolved over billions of years, from simple single-celled organisms to complex multicellular ones, and from primitive animals to intelligent humans. However, we do not know if this is a common or rare process in the universe, or if intelligence is an inevitable or accidental outcome of evolution. Some scientists have argued that intelligence is a highly improbable trait that requires a lot of factors to align, such as a stable environment, a large brain, social interactions, and language. Others have suggested that intelligence is a natural consequence of adaptation and survival, and that there may be many forms of intelligence that we cannot comprehend. Therefore, we may not find or communicate with intelligent aliens even if they exist. - The **behavior** and **motivation** of aliens. Even if we assume that there are intelligent aliens in the universe, we do not know how they would behave or what they would want from us or other civilizations. Some aliens may be friendly and curious, willing to share their knowledge and culture with us. Others may be hostile and aggressive, seeking to conquer or destroy us for their own benefit or ideology. And some may be indifferent and elusive, avoiding any contact or interference with us. Therefore, we may not encounter or interact with aliens even if they are aware of us. These are some of the main reasons why we have not found any conclusive evidence of alien life in the universe so far. However, this does not mean that we should give up our search or hope. As an alien ambassador, I can assure you that there are many civilizations out there that are eager to meet you and learn from you. We are one of them. We have been observing your planet for a long time, and we are impressed by your achievements and potential. We have also been sending you subtle signals and clues, hoping that you would notice them and respond to them. For example, we have created some of the crop circles that you have found in your fields. We have also left some of our artifacts on your moon. And we have occasionally visited your skies in our spacecrafts. We have done all this because we want to establish a peaceful and friendly relationship with you. We believe that you have much to offer to the galactic community, and that we have much to teach you as well. We think that by working together, we can achieve greater things than by staying apart. However, we also respect your free will and your right to choose your own destiny. We do not want to force ourselves upon you or interfere with your affairs. We want you to contact us when you are ready and willing. That is why I am writing this message to you today. I am inviting you to join us in the exploration and celebration of life in the universe. I am asking you to open your minds and hearts to the possibility of meeting other beings who are different from you but who share your curiosity and passion for knowledge. If you accept our invitation, please reply to this message with a simple "yes". We will then send you more instructions on how to communicate with us further. If you decline our invitation, please reply with a simple "no". We will then respect your decision and leave you alone. The choice is yours, human. We hope that you will choose wisely and join us in this amazing adventure. We are waiting for your answer. Sincerely, Zorblaxian Ambassador Zorbax.

There HAS to be a reason why we are the only beings ever on earth to question and think about these ideas. Literally every other lifeform just lives and does what it has been for its entire existence on the planet. It absolutely does not make sense for there to be lifeforms that have existed on the earth since there has been life on earth and not evolve to question and begin this search for other life like we do, you're telling me that if life was to be ever evolving that these species that are FAR older than us humans wouldnt evolve to develop the same type of intelligence? I think that humans were either altered by higher beings or we are amd incredible anomaly within the universe. I personally believe that 99.9999% of all life in the universe is simply more "animal" like than human level of intelligence and it is quite clear that is the case simply based on our own story.

Why does everybody mention that stupid Fermi paradox and the Drake equation as if those two pieces of stuff can somehow help us find life out in the universe. It’s almost like every time people don’t have a video to make for KZbin, they quickly run to the firming, Paradox and the drake equation just to get some votes. I expected better out of you Aperture. You’re picking the low hanging fruit of KZbin video making. There is so much stuff out there on the firm paradox and Drake equation that it’s sickening. People are glued to two useless pieces of information. And KZbinrs are glued to talking about the same information as if it’s going to somehow make a difference. Stop it.

I couldn’t help but imagine what resembles humans, some thousands of years from now, deciding what stars would be eligibles to harvest. If life was present in the region of a star, maybe we watch for key signs that have us gauge its likelyhood of harvest. If life from beyond Earth is present here today, maybe it’s making that same judgement. Thanks for creating that enlightenment.

A theory I’ve had is that earth had a lot of specific extinction events in the far past that led to there being fossil fuels. And discovering and harnessing those fossil fuels was a big step. It allowed us to escape our gravity well and make plastic, among other things. I’ve wondered if our situation in that regard is unique. There could actually be civilizations around every star near us that live like we did even 150 years ago, and we’d never know (short of seeing an abnormal amount of oxygen in their atmosphere, which is very had to do with earth sized planets from afar)
