The shark analogy is pretty bad math. It actually demonstrates the point you go on to make later, that twisting statistics without context allows you to say just about anything you want it to. For one, the stunningly low probability you arrive at for shark attack is inaccurate if viewed without proper context. There are numerous... infinitely more vending machines than sharks in the city, and far more dogs too. There are also more cars. The probability of a shark attack would be vastly higher if you only looked at people who happened to be at the beach. It would be astronomically higher if you only took into account swimmers who happen to see a shark. Using stats in this way to reduce our worries is fine but we shouldn't use them to reduce credible threats to below the risk of a falling vending machine should we be in a position to be exposed to them Also the probability of death on a motorcycle is certainly higher than that of a car, unless you're not accounting for the fact that there are many many more drivers than riders... And I'm fairly certain that if the chances of death in car was 1% every time you drive, nobody would want to drive at all... You'd clock 200 trips a year easy, making 1%a virtual certainly Obviously the probability of a plane crash is low per trip. Just as the probability of a car crash is also low... PER TRIP. If you're comparing probability of death per flight with probability of death for the average driver who logs hundreds of trips a year for his lifetime... I'd say you're an airplane rep trying to sell flight tickets

My daughter went to Montessori elementary and they taught that instead of having a huge corner of toys or a room of toys for your child you should bring out 4 at a time for a few days and then rotate with another 4. This is so peaceful to me for some reason. Honestly I’ve been listening to this on and off over the last few days. I listen while I’m taking a quick nap during my busy schedule. There is a fallacy early on in this video whereby it talks about sharks and the statistics of there being more chances of being killed by a dog but we keep them around etc and how this equals to how we are irrational creatures, not at all, this is a fallacy, let me explain. It is absolutely crucial to look at exposure time to humans of the said species and than compare the number of attacks. we will quickly see the total human exposure to sharks vs dogs is 100 percent land slide win for dogs and than compare the number of attacks within that time and you will quickly find sharks are significantly more prone to attacks.

I used to work in a hospital as a care assistant. Towards the end of the covid pandemic i took care of a polish man who was 102 years old at the time, luckily he escaped poland a few weeks before the nazis occupied his home town he ended up in England and found work as an air craft maintenance engineer he asked if he could learn to fly a plane and his request was granted and eventually he ended up flying combat sorties over the channel, on his last sortie his plane was hit and began leaking fuel but luckily did not catch fire he had to ditch in the English channel but again luckily he was close enough to the shore that he was able to make it back and a local family who seen his plane go down from the beach ran to help him, very lucky guy, and at the age of 102 he walked with out a stick, could tie shoe laces could hear fine and only needed glasses for reading and managed to shrug off covid-19 with no need for oxygen therapy or anti virals i think he must be the luckiest guy i have ever met

The odds of certain things happening to you depend on contributing factors. In the instance of being struck 7 times by lightning the likelihood for the average person is quite low but in the instance of the guy who was struck 7 times there were factors that made it much more likely. He had a job that had him working in open fields in an area where lightening storms are more prevalent. When it comes to shark attacks the odds are again quite low but if you’re an abalone diver or a surfer who surfs at a beach without shark nets and is the habitat known for sharks, such as Cottlesloe Beach Western Australia, the odds skyrocket. It all depends on the location and the frequency of exposure to danger with the likelihood occurring. It’s how insurance companies come up with the cost of premiums and how risk assessments are done in risk management.

that i think tells for some of it, but definitely not all. you could predict a lot with numbers and statistics. but i never much cared for statistics in school, that’s all they are, statistics. sure if u swim in the ocean u have a higher likelihood to get eaten by a shark i guess, but i’ve lived at the beach my whole life and never met a soul who has. some things can be concluded about being in the wrong place could make you more likely to get struck by lighting or eaten by a shark, but within that there’s so mathematical stability, no predictability.

Yes of course but I think the odds are mostly taking into account the fact that most likely anything else can happen then being attacked by a shark, bc for instance think about all the kids in the Midwest inner cities. One of the first realizations that hit me young was my mortality. My life was finite. I had my first existential crisis when I was 3. I didn't want to waste one second yet everything felt like a waste of time. I cried in school because I was wasting my life. I didn't want to work. I couldn't stand waiting or being patient. I always multitasked. I never wanted to delay gratification or be anything when I grew up. I've never been happy because my life is limited. Nothing has ever been worth work or effort. I never related to anyone. Just lived my life in a panic. It's unfortunate that my life has been pretty crappy ever since I knew I would die. I've never been able to really live.

The subject of less being better in regard to options/choices is so true. Any time I have a very large number of options to choose from in regard to anything, it overwhelms me to the point that I have a very difficult time choosing between the options. Any time I am in the store and I’m standing in the cereal aisle, men’s shampoo aisle, men’s stick deodorant section, condiment section, etc., etc., it absolutely overwhelms me and I just want to grab something adequate and pay for my selections and get out. After trying to weigh all the options by quality of product, taste or fragrance, and other attributes of whatever I’m trying to choose, I just get to a point where I stop caring so much about those attributes and just get foggy in my mind. That is when I finally give up and just, as I said before, grab something approximating the best for me and then I hurry to pay and leave so I can clear my mind. Then I’m immediately met with the overwhelming amount of choices in regard to what restaurant I want to stop at and purchase food. So it just goes on and on and on. When I was a child back in the very late 60’s and all through the 70’s, there definitely weren’t so many choices for all the different products that all of us need and buy, including food and clothing. This is why the HUGE big box stores exist now and they didn’t exist back then. The world has drastically changed since the 60’s and 70’s and, of course, there are countless reasons why that is a good thing. More choices is always better because more choices means more abundance and more specialized resources and products are available to the masses. But there is a tipping point that we reached a long time ago on which the number of choices of most all products became overwhelming and disconcerting. A trip to the grocery store just isn’t what it used to be. The overabundance of choices is good in some ways and terrible in other ways, just as I said above and the video pointed out. So much is so stressful to have to deal with and even the simplest decisions have become very stressful and difficult because the number of choices is just too many. I’m incredibly thankful that I live in a place where everything is abundant and there are MANY choices, but the tipping point was reached a long time ago and the stress level in so many people is such that it has caused the majority of people to lose their inner peace and they don’t even realize it.

I think you may be a bit neurotic if having choices actually stresses you out. It's nice to have an abundance of choices. Although It's a lot easier to shop when you already know what you want to purchase. So make your decisions on what you want to purchase while you're at home and it'll save you from the stress of having to choose from so many choices on the spot. It'll also keep you from impulsive purchases that you may regret.

One paradox I never hear anyone talk about is the saying "there's an exception to every rule." That phrase is also a rule, therefore there must an exception to it. So then there is a rule without exception, which means there can't be an exception to every rule. The same applies if you say "nothing is true" or "everything is false"

Im a schizophrenic. I do doordash for extra money. One order at night, i arrived and walked to the door, placed his food down and took a picture. I got in my car and drove away. 30 minutes later he called and asked where his food was, i totally remember taking the picture at his doorstep. So he took it up with Doordash. An order later, i opened my back door and.. saw his order. I was so confused why it was there. I remembered everything about going there and taking the picture. Appearantly i hallucinated the whole delivery. I was there, but must of never left the car. What was i doing then?? Staring blankly at the windshield? I called him and apologized but he already got his refund. I felt so terrible. Im on medication and nothing works. It just goes to show how easily some misfirings in the brain can completely alter your sense of reality.

You’re misunderstanding statistics and probabilities. So say you have 1 in 100 chance of dying to a bee sting. That doesn’t mean there is a 1 in 100 chance of dying to a bee sting during your daily life. That’s out of 100 bee stings, an average of 1 will typically kill you. I don’t feel like getting the exact numbers he used but if he said you have a 1/10 chance to die by dog and a 1/100 chance to die by shark, that doesn’t mean you’re more likely to die by a dog during your day to day life. That means if you were attacked by a dog, one out of every 10 attacks has a chance to kill you. For the sharks it would be 1/100 attacks would kill you. By default the statists are excluding people who don’t encounter the things he’s giving odds on. Saying you have a higher chance of dying by dog has nothing to do with the amount of people who come into contact with dogs.

​@@TheSCPStudio thats nonsense. the numbers alone make that impossible. there is no way to have a chance of 1 in a million when there have not even been a million incidents of whatever that probability is assigned to. there have barely been any commercial plane crashes, but almost all of them have been fatal for all or most people on the plane, and the total number of people being subjected to a plane crash is small. probability alone means nothing, it requires tons or dependent variables to be checked and this, along with the methodology, needs to be carefully documented and logically analysed for inductive reasoning to have any meaning. you could make studies that "prove" anything, no matter how absurd, just by controlling the sample group and by determining correlating variables that logically do not correlate, and leaving the important ones out. thats one of the ways how academia manages to lie effortlessly.

I only meant to say that we generally tend to assume that dogs are pretty harmless, or at least incapable of serious damage, and that sharks are cold blooded killers at any opportunity and, from a purely factual point of view, neither of those assumptions are true. From factual information I have heard, sharks don't intentionally attack humans, they mistake us for something else like a seal, but that doesn't mean the bites are any less devastating when they do bite so I apologize if I came across as insensitive. Various types of sources are available for some of the facts, the video probably uses a compilation of a few. And then I guess the author would have done their own math and research too. Examples: Claim departments within any insurance industry will have statistics on accidents and risk types. Places associated with medical advancements would have records and statistics about the body. Prisons would have records for crimes. Access to public death records, etc.. Cheers!

Now the problem here is that Marlin doesn't know how to find his son but he just knows Beyond The Shred of a doubt that he's going to find his son because he's a dad and he lost his only son. So his whole life he knows for a fact, his heart and his mind have come into Union, they've both agreed that 100% we're going to find our son but I don't know how. So this is the same for you with your goal. You want something 100% for sure without a doubt but I don't know how I'm going to get it. That's okay normally you don't have to know how to get something. All you need to know is the first step. This is exactly how reality creation works. You hold your goal (P Sherman 42 Wallaby Way Sydney) in your mind and then you trust that the universe is going to take you there in its own mysterious way. Trust the universe that it's going to bring you to your goal but you won't know how. On the surface it's going to seem like everything is falling apart but once you look back you're going to say oh I actually needed to go through that failure because now I'm successful but I couldn't have been successful without that failure. You say oh this is going to bring me to my goal and you just kind of affirm to yourself that the Universe looks out for me and that the universe is on my team and is helping me manifest what I want. You want to be like Dory. You want to have radical trust in the universe and you want to hold in your mind your vision. The problem with these probabilities you give is it depends on your lifestyle. If i surf everyday, I am more likely to be attacked by a shark because I put myself in that situation. If i never enter the ocean in my life then there is an extremely small percentage chance that I ever get attacked/killed by a shark. yeah, the complexity and conundrum of trying to find meaning of our existence, feeling like youre on to something, but every time you go down that line of thought you find theres a dead end. I always came to an impasse as well. life is a paradox. And ive come to terms with it. And honestly, its a good thing. Think about the concept of whether or not god exists. If we knew, like actually had tangible evidence that we could see, hear, touch, that truly verified without any doubt that god did (or did not) exist; life would be less meaningful. The biggest mystery (or one of the biggest) would be gone completely from our existence. It would honestly change everyone in a different way and I do believe it would be for the worst. because that mystery in our life gives us so many options and more ideas in and more possibilities than it does in how we view ourselves and how we want to live. take it away and your options become limited. Just think, the more we learn about our world and universe, the more mysteries we solve, the fewer reasons we have to live. The more we know then the more predictable our lives would become. Our desire to live would be less, because the risk and mystery and probability iS the meaning to life. its the unknown that drives us.

The next morning, we found out just a mile further up the beach a boy was attacked by a shark. I think the shark went right past us. I was so captivated I watched this whole and even went back to understand it. I honestly think this gave me a better outlook on life. Do I wanna study to be an engineer because it’s high paying or do I want to be an engineer because it’ll be something I’ll enjoy. That’s something I wanna think about

@HoodieSardine ah biomedical has lots and lots of room for growth. Making assistive devices would also be quite rewarding too. One thing I would like to do would be engineer biocompatible grafting materials so tissue could bind seamlessly with metal, ceramics, or even other biological tissues. For example making a cermet (metal ceramic composition) dental implant that the gum and bone both grow into forming a secure bond that will last a lifetime. 🤔

great ambient music i love it it reminds me when i was a child i used to admire games or movies about the future and like humans move to space and explore the unknown its so amazing how a simple music can remind u how was childhood so much fun that adulthood like experiencing the halo series for the first time or that strange movie star trek moving so fast toward space such a masterpiece its cool sometimes to nurd about this stuff

1. The fear of flying in plane and meeting an accident more than getting killed in car accident or bike accident is because chances of if something happened in airplane means certain death while in car crashes and bike crashes people still survive if i lt comes to worst as amputed.
