Came for the camera review. Stayed for the flying of the little planes. Now I want one. Not the camera but the little plane.

Ya, the camera is a lot less impressive than the plane! ;-) I'm sticking with the Contour cameras for now, they work much better.

Thank you for the review. I hate when I buy something and the reviews are bad. I bought this on and now I am just trying to figure out how it works. Bummer about the quality of 1080 but, for the price, I will just live with it. I appreciate your testimonial.

I just bought the same one about a month ago. Couldn't pass up the Amazon deal for $59. I originally bought a Akaso EK7000 which is a good camera, but it don't have a ext mike jack like this Apex. Both batteries are inter-changeable so that is good. Enjoy!

I thought the pictures /video was great you had an overcast day that may have affected the video. I have ordered this camera but will be using it while riding my recumbent trike will let you know when I can ride outdoors again but right now we are in quarantine in Ontario thanks for your review and unboxing. I also like the remote idea so I do not have to get off my trike to take pictures or run a video. Ps love the planes. You need a program with the mic to cancel out other noises other than your voice do not know if there is one but will find out also thanks again for sharing.

Actually, I'll have to disagree with you, concerning your comment about the conditions of that day not being good enough for a proper test of the camera and its settings. Cloudy days and even better, lite rain cloudy days are SUPERB to test out both the hardware and firmware of a camera, and especially the lens of the camera! Darker days allow a photographer to clearly see how the camera delivers (or doesn't) contrast amidst shadows, changing variances of light from the various strata of rays coming down through wetter or dryer clouds (thus changing depth of perception for the camera lens and hence, the firmware controlling it), and then the color contrasts between light and dark colors in varying degrees of light! Any camera can do a pretty good job with enough sunlight, but the true test comes with less than desireable conditions; then we learn the positives and negatives of a camera/lens/firmware combo in terms of depth of field, contrasts, articulation of focus, and the all important degree of pixelation. Watching you transition from 1080 to 4k proved to me that the camera is more than adequate per the task you have assigned it: strapped to a wing strut or tail section for filming (I would recommend the strut location, because quite frankly, that little camera has a great depth of field and wonderful contrast abilities.). Longevity through the crucible of endurance under conditions will be the true test of the camera, but at the baseline, you're starting with what looks to be a great little camera that will work well for your purposes. Cheers from Central WY, USA

You were happy with the pixelization (that's a word... right?) when I had it set to 1080...?!? because I wasn't. I didn't get an unpixelated image until I got to 4K which frankly, is ridiculous. My Contour at 720 shoots a better image than the ApexCam at 4K. Definitely something wrong there.
@jrbailey32085 жыл бұрын
@@mmatt My observations of your Apex were based upon using the same point of focus throughout your settings range: the door and windows of the large building down to the left in the frame. The color variations and depth of field focal point was the tree and grass of your backyard (nice backyard by the by....though I would have loved to have seen a half dozen or two of huge Concord Grape plants to the right of the tree...but I digress.....I've been wanting some quality home made wine of late, and there is none to be had). Throughout the range of acuity (changing of the matrices) the door way became sharper and sharper, as did the windows (actually the edges surrounding the windows). I should have also been watching the cloud patterns for a more accurate depiction of pixelization (I checked for the spelling this time....sometimes my spelling gene departs from me at the most inopportune moments), however, I was more interested in depth of field and sharpness for structures, since a lot of you videos include quite a few houses and other buildings, cities in background, and traffic on roads. The color contrasts of your backyard seemed to indicate to me that the landscape framing you have most of in your videos, should come in quite nicely, though color striations are something that would have to be checked on another day, with more sunlight to accentuate those colors (a panorama style I guess I would call it). Having said all of that, given the drawbacks of the camera from your personal considerations, especially the dual open mic lines and your serious concern with the level of pixelization-especially in post production efforts, given that you bought it off of Amazon, I'd pack the sucker back up, get the RMA, and send it back to them. Get the refund, wait another month to save up some more shekels, sell anything with which you are not dearly attached (a common practice in my home), and 'buy up', especially when it comes to the glass: one can NEVER have too high quality glass for the camera!!! Considering your neck of the woods, consistently good flying weather for good shooting should still be a month, month and a half out, so you've got the extra time to put more shekels in the kitty for a really higher end camera set up. I used to shoot semi-pro for rodeos and motor sports (mud bogging), as well as the ubiquitous wildlife and landscapes (I literally live in the Oil Patch in central WY) which everyone and their siblings shoots these days. Anywho, I continue to enjoy your videos, with only a couple exceptions (personal biases on my part, not yours), and look forward to the day that I can see an Aeromentum 3 cyl 75hp 4 stroke on your airplane.......that sucker ought to climb out at about 1600-1800 fpm at the right angle of climb. Hope the rebuild on your friend's new plane continues to go smoothly...his kid seems to have a good sense of humour.

Thanks for the review. Have you tried it underwater at all? I'm going on vacation in November and was looking for some cheaper alternatives for a camera that works underwater. I don't really want to drop several hundred dollars on something that i'm not entirely sure i'll be using much beyond this trip. It doesnt have to be top quality, just something that i can use to capture some cool fishies when i go snorkeling.

I guess for the price it's not too bad, judging by the image quality alone of course but that downscaling to enable video editing is going to be a pain unless you get a more powerful desktop PC.
@mmatt5 жыл бұрын
If they had advertised it as a 1080 and it shot crisp and clear in 1080, I'd be all over it. But having to downscale it really killed it for me.
