Did you see how easily he tapped that sight out? haha, that only happens on TV. my rear sight was so tight I had to use a 2 lb hammer to get it out, that's after I heated it and used liquid wrench.

Glad to see I'm not crazy. I've beat the rear sight in the place they say to take it off with a hand sledge and a punch and I still haven't got the crazy thing moved yet. Tried a site pusher, still won't budge it. Next step will have to be ugly, and I hope I don't hurt the slide. This is ridiculous to have to go through. Thanks S&W.

I think the Plus is even worse. I barely managed to get night sights put on it with a vise and hammer. It didn't turn out pretty, but they're on there lol. I just got the trigger kit, and after a couple brief attempts to remove the sights again to access the striker block safety, I'm good. It's fine without it lol.

I used a good quality sight pusher specific to the Shield on the front and rear sight and it worked great unlike the advice in this video. A pusher gently removes the sight which sure beats beating the heck out of your sights with the punch and possibly having the punch slipping and damaging the finish. This video makes it look easy, believe me the sights do not come out that easily. They had already removed the sights at least once before they did this video because from the factory these sights are in there very snug and you have to beat the crap out of them if you use a punch and hammer.

What sight pusher was it if you don’t mind me asking. I have one for my glocks but won’t work on my shield. They are snug as hell.
@fastdude20022 жыл бұрын
@@Aldeezy209 I have the Midwest Gun Works (MGW) Sight Pro. They also make a less expensive model called the Range Master. They are expensive, $299 for the Pro and $199 for the Range Master. I know this is expensive but it’s a good investment in my book, especially if you own more than one handgun. You actually have to buy a specific shoe for the firearm you want to adjust for about $15.00. This is why it works so good, it’s not a one size trying to fit all, it uses specific shoes for the firearm you want to remove, install, or adjust sights on. I bought the tool and a shoe for my shield, sig, Glock, etc. and now I can make easy and safe changes and adjustments anytime I need myself without damaging my firearm. My friend bought a set of new night sights and paid a gunsmith to install them on his Shield. The problem was when we got to the range his sights were slightly off. I was able to use my tool to drift his sights for him at the range and we got it perfectly sighted in. That’s another great thing about having this tool, not only to change sights but also just to make easy adjustments in windage. When I buy a new firearm sometimes they come perfectly sighted from the factory and sometimes they shoot left or right of point of aim. This has been the case with the last two Glocks I bought. I easily drifted the sights without damaging the gun. This sight pusher has very fine threads and will make very precise adjustments. The price for the tool is worth it in my book just for removing the frustration and stress of trying to remove, install, or adjust sights with a hammer and punch. Again, even if you pay a gunsmith to change sights most likely they will need adjustments once you get to the range and test them. Good luck.

If your rear sites won’t move take that setscrew all the way out use a Q-tip with some acetone put it in that hole and fill it full and let it sit for a few minutes if that Loctite has seeped underneath the site It could be why it won’t slide when your tapping on it Just my two cents I don’t know if it’ll work or not

The rear sight is secured with Red Loctite! Use a soldering iron tip to heat the rear sight set screw to break up the Red Loctite before trying to remove the rear sight. Im very surprised Apex didn't mention this in their video!

We must have completely different sights. I've tried tapping lightly, moderate taps, all the way to putting all my strength into moving this thing and it hasn't budged a millimeter. Trigger install was relatively easy, but I'm going to have to take it to a gunsmith just to get my rear sight off. :/

Tap tap tap doesn't really do it, but it's easier if you use gravity. Stabilize the slide on its side, ideally on a concrete floor. I used a mitre clamp and protected the slide with a postcard and some shims to keep it stabile. I filed the sharp edge off of a 5/16" cold chisel and pounded the rear sight out with a claw hammer. It took about the same force as driving a framing nail and it's a lot easier to drive it down than to push it across. I did the front the same way with a brass punch.

lol I just had to adjust my rear sight left, got the set screw off and I took out the clip cleared it put it on my metal ammo can holding it with one hand I put a sticker on the sight and picked up my AR wrench and wailed on it in a stabbing motion on the sight. im a contractor so im very accurate. I had to beat the shit out of it from left to right to break the seal then I could wail it right to left and got my sight centered properly. It did no damage to my sight but maybe I got lucky. the part of the ar wrench I stabbed it with was the part that hooks into the buffer tightener thing. hardest part was to loosen it, I read it must be struck from left to right in the first hits until it loosens and moves then you can stick it right to left

I read several comments from others. All I want to do is adjust -the sight to shoot a bit more to the right. Removed set-screw and began to tap. Ha! No tapping here. I moved to a regular hammer (using a brass punch). Still no moving. Decided, I needed to KZbin the subject. Totally agree with the comments of others. One of the comments said that S&W puts Red Loctite on the rear sight. That would be a pretty good thing to mention. Who ever bought a firearm and didn't need to make a sight adjustment when taking it to the range for the first time? Who cares where the S&W computer says the firearm is sighted in? I'm not a S&W computer.
@TheGV506 жыл бұрын
You can put your slide in the freezer for a few hours and then try to move that rear sight. But you still will have to heat up the set screw to dissolve the Red Loctite thread locker.(Before placing in the Freezer!)

The Shield M2.0 says that the rear sight is not adjustable? Suggests adjusting the front sight. Is the rear truly not adjustable, or just much more difficult to move? I'm not sure my sight pusher would work on either one.
@rubberhamburger5 жыл бұрын
shuumai I suggest trying the front. I spent 2.5 hours at the range today with a sight press trying to adjust the rear sight. Sight press wouldn’t work on the front and I didn’t have a hammer and punch. I couldn’t get the rear to budge. My gun shoots to the left
@shuumai5 жыл бұрын
@@rubberhamburger We shot the Shield tonight for the first time and it is also shooting left. I can see that the rear sight is a little to the left from the factory. The front sight seems centered. (Need new batteries for my micrometer to be overly precise.) I LOVED shooting it though! (I put a Hogue grip on it, so that probably made it even nicer to handle.) The elevation was decent at 7-10 yards, the only distances I shot at. It's a good idea to use a soldering iron to breakdown the red Loc-tite on the set screw and totally remove the screw. Or do as the manual suggests and only move the front sight. In my case, both sights would end up to the left though. (My SR9c's front sight was a little left from the factory AND I had to move the rear to the right a bit.) I'm afraid to try the sight pusher on the front because it will have to push on the sight blade. If I had a vice, I'd try a punch, which I don't have either! haha

Well that video is total crap. It took me using a sledge hammer and a brass punch to get the back sight off. I hit it alot, I could not have knocked that sight off any easier with Thor's hammer.
