Meris, you are so wonderful to learn from. I have the subscription, but I didn't find anywhere to thank you for all your personal stories, for teaching like you're talking to us, and for just being great!

My third child had very low scores initially, he needed resuscitation. It was a home birth too! But it wasn't frightening. My midwife acted quickly (she was very experienced and had delivered my second child at home too). First she held him face down, feet elevated, to drain fluid (he had meconium in the waters). Didn't work, so she "bagged" him once, which helped. Bagged him a second time, got a good cry! And he was back in my arms, still being monitored closely until his HR got to 160 bpm. She did all this right next to me, there was no panic. I'm very thankful for the good outcome, he is 10 months old and well.

Off topic but what are the green glass pieces in the background? Is that antique uranium glass?

Yes!!! I collect uranium glass and have dozens of pieces throughout my house, so it only seemed right to have some in the background of my videos! Good eye! --Meris :)

@@LevelUpRN Veeeery cool! Before pursuing nursing I worked at Los Alamos National Labs (where there's lots of radioactive stuff😉) and a friend of mine turned me on to this hobby! It's so cool... And interesting!

Is this gestational age Ballard test accurate 100%?
@Djellal Жыл бұрын
I'm confused about the lanugo. What's the difference between present lanugo (hair) in premature and mostly bald in mature?? Because mostly bald means you still have some little hair present just like present lanugo in a baby.
@LevelUpRN Жыл бұрын
A mature or post-mature baby will have lost the majority of their lanugo, while a premature infant will have abundant lanugo. So the premature infant will be well-covered in this fine, downy hair, while a mature or post-mature infant is likely to have hair mostly on their heads and not much lanugo. I hope that helps! --Meris :)

Wouldn’t a pulse of 95 be 1 score for the APGAR score? I thought 1 point is rewarded for a pulse rate less than 100.
@lindsaycode22852 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought too. Her explanation says 2 pts for respirations which isn't in the scenario

interesting that you provided inches and centimeters for length and weight, then inches only for head/chest circumference but immediately switched from inches to centimeters for the next line regarding the difference in head and chest circum. at birth. Bit confusing.

Your videos desperately need writing! Show the APGAR scale while talking about it, etc. This applies to all your videos. A person talking is not very conducive to effective learning. Adding visuals will aid imprint information.

I think this is a supplement to the paid flash cards. I think level up rn has given us so much free resources the flash cards are for people like yourself that need a physical copy or you can make your own and then use this video to supplement your notes or study material (:
