aaaah man. time and time again I find myself coming back to the brilliance of aphex twin. I'll just go around some days, seeing whats "in", and everything is so damn generic and unoriginal. Aphex Twin creates some of the strangest, yet genuinely interesting music that can possibly exist. Truly exquisite and a pleasure to listen to. i'll be a fan forever

Aphex twin is incredibly skilled... It's like breakbeat fused with dreamy ambient synths and acid basses. I can't believe some don't even see how this is music. These are usually people who go all gooey over a song like "Boom boom pow" or something.

Not exactly. My experience has convinced me that all young dogs, and the occasional cat, will at some crucial moment attempt to devour something-anything, really. Usually, they simply fall on their side, are fawned over by unwary owners, and promptly forget the primal lust of the predatory instinct...of course, Mr. James changes everything.

I find IDM to be a bit of a shitty term for the genre - dubbing it "Intelligent" as opposed to other types of electronic music seems arrogant. That aside, I fucking love the genre whatever one should call it, and this track is magnificent.

Why are all these comments talking about deadmau5, dubstep, techno, trance? Aphex is a electronic muzik genius and does what he wants... End of discussion... Period! If you were to compare his talent to anyone it would be Plastikman. Different styles but revolutionary to what they did to the electronic muzik seen.

This is IDM. Or, per the artist's coining of the phrase (aphex twin, that is), this is BrainDance. Within it is something genuinely complicated in the composition, synthesis, and implementation processes, not just dj's relying on the facade of electronics being an overwhelming topic to the audience. The RHYTHM features syncopation - the dancing around central rhythmic points the brain was entrained to expect, UNIQUE synthesis techniques, and an obvious subversion from mainstream techno. thus.

This is true. I like Deadmau5 a good deal (although nothing he's done since For Lack of a Better Name has grabbed me) and songs like Faxing Berlin and Strobe are some of the best electronic releases of the last ten years despite (or because) of their simplicity, but Aphex Twin is a pioneer of new things and has been genuinely groundbreaking in the genre/s he's worked within. If only he'd be a bit more conventional releasing music.

Quite true. Not a lot of people can replicate (or even come close to) the work of RDJ. When I first started listening (and before I started buying equiptment) I just had a microphone and Windows sound recorder. I recorded and modified various sounds, then wrote out the time sigs. (basic math) on paper, put the whole thing together, and voila a song. $1000+ equiptment is not necessary, - just an imagination.

the theme of every AT tracks are almost same...its a good cure for restlessness,boredom,anxiety...the time signatures are difficult to analyze in a single hear...music is a flow of energy which is bounded with direction...the channelization of the energy is done perfectly in the above mentioned track
