Massive respect to the late great John Peel for bringing Richard into the public eye 👁🗨, back in the 92' BBC radio peel sessions. Classics. The day I got outta jail November 92' I bought selected ambient works 85/92 and it changed my life for music.

It's so interesting that you didn't say "...it changed my life for [the better]" but rather, "for music." - as a musician I feel that somehow. The thing about Aphex twin that I loved more than anything was how he can really make anything sound computerized, like it really came from a computer, but he could also make something sound so atmospheric it sounds like something that came from another planet, or dimension, or like something from heaven, very very few artists I can name ever got close to what Richard could create, I think a lot of that came from his ability to truly let his mind wonder, and listen to things, observe things, almost a sort of meditation, which tbh, I feel is really the heart of a true artist. Him and Brian eno were truly some of the best electronic music artists to ever walk the earth.

Lots of DJs hide behind screens or 'tarps' - it is because they are actually doing very little and don't want anyone to notice. Most just play pre-recorded.created set lists, then pretend to be creating music by turning a few EQ knobs and volume sliders and taking their hedphones off now and then. Hiding, also allows them to relax more and not keep pretending all the time. I was a music researcher for PRS for ten years and met 100s of DJs.
