Target Audience: Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, Early Intervention Specialists, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, General Education Teachers, Special Educators, Paraprofessionals, Administrators, Parents and Caregivers of Students with Visual Impairments, University Personnel and Students in Professional Preparation Programs, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, and all others supporting and facilitating the learning of students with visual impairments.
Learning Objectives:
1) Participants will define teaching touch and exploratory skills for developing tactile learners.
2) Participants will examine the connections between the development of exploratory skills as foundational elements of braille readiness and meaningful tactile graphics experiences.
3) Given background information on teaching touch and foundational tactile graphics skills, participants will apply knowledge to encourage graphics creation and composition by students.
