Why do people keep saying that on so many groups/bands that were absolutely NOT underrated? Vangelis, for one, was a well know musical giant till his passing about six months ago, which makes it about two months before you wrote your comment. Demis Roussos was also a well-known artist. I humbly admit not knowing the other members. Having said that, Psychedelic Rock was a niche genre, but not underrated

This was recorded well before digital technology provided an easy and affordable way to add reverb ambience to recordings. There were only two options back then: an actual echo chamber room wired with speakers and microphones that used up valuable real estate OR an expensive and also very large directly wired "plate" reverb panel device that also required a sizable space for isolation. I would love to know the details of how they achieved this incredible drum sound.

@@wombatski100 Aphrodite's Child were based in France so were not listened in the UK, especially since they lasted 2.5 years. The last album, this one, was released after the split up of the band and was not promoted or played by radios, firstly because it has an orgasm song that lasts many minutes and the label thought that was over the top and should be taken out, and also because of the themes which were a little mistakenly interpreted. And because the band had disbanded and Demis Roussos was thinking of his personal plans already, while Vangelis was already writing music for film, I think the french film "sex", and the other two members were looking what to do next and Sideras was also considering going solo. The album took the ok to be released a year after the scheduled release and not played in radios. Eventually, slowly, it got its way and was appreciated in the UK by music lovers and appreciators who were looking around for stuff, without promotion not even in France let alone UK, and slowly started to be appreciated for the super quality of the album but gradually among people looking to find good music. But the album would not have been listened to in the UK early on I would think judging from the way was completed, released, and promoted in France. It is though one of the best prog albums of all time and widely recognized as such now.

Indeed. This song is just simply other-worldly. To really appreciate the brilliance of it though you really do need to listen to it at extremely high volume levels. This is one of those very rare songs that the louder you play it, the better it sounds. I would recommend listening to this song as loud as you possibly can (without damaging your hearing in the process). This is the kind of song that has the potential to make your head explode - and that's exactly what a track like this is intended to do.

I'm absolutely devastated and deeply saddened by the passing of one of "THE GREATEST" singers of the 20th century, the 666 album is one my all time favourites and I absolutely love the four horseman and Demis Roussos's soaring vocals sound like they emanate from another dimension. If there was ever a Greek god living among us mere mortals it was definately Demis and his memory and music will live on in all of our hearts. May his spirit soar as high as his voice through the cosmos and beyond. Farewell "my friend the wind". :-(
