Around 1979 I was doing some communications work at the Stewart Stevenson plant in Houston Tx, and got to watch them fire up a jet engine they were developing. It was the first time they fired it up, must of been 50 Engineers there, testing and taking readings. It was amazing. There were no covers on the engine, so you really had a nice view, I was around 20 foot away soaking it all in. Doing the work I did I got to see almost everything out there from NASA to Westinghouse where they made and rebuilt huge turbines for power plants, to the Johnson Engineers where they stored all the Space Shuttle Arms (150), kept in a A/C blacked out warehouse. Watched Hughes Tool Company develop the huge 8 foot rock roller drilling bit. Basically it was 40 years of learning and watching, best job you could ever have.

Put a plow on it for winter use. So it has 24 volts for starting and the "Generator" puts out 24 and 12. 12 volts for lights and other accessories. SOMEWHERE in my old Delco material, 2 of us went for training at the old Delco Training Center in 1987 at Anderson Indiana. I saw a Generator (as Delco/GM call it) that put out 12 Volts AND a Step Up Transformer of 24 (actual was 28 with engine running) Volts! It was self regulated of course, used in some large over-the-road and possibly off road equipment vehicles. I've never seen one in use, I know I still have the book and/or literature on its operation. I was really impressed with it. We also learned about series/parallel cranking/charging switches. Long time ago, GREAT TRAINING.

Complaint was windows don’t work (both right front/rear windows). It remind me of you when you did Subaru power window. I fixed rear right window (was due to connector wasn’t pushed in). Only problem is right front don’t work from master switch and passenger switch, only work when pressin down not up , both switch. Weird. I took notes and used wiring diagram. I had to bypass motor to get window up. I believe both switches are bad. Also lock button don’t work. But i will see (will update). I hope I’m right 😭.

dual voltage systems suck especially when they use the frame as a common. it doent take much of a bad connection for the higher voltage to show up on the low voltage system. i suspect thats what happened to the regulator. there are lots of variations on these lines most common is a 24 volt starting using 12 v charging but i 've seen a lot of 24 volt start n charge with 12v running the rest. most of them use a stack or otherwise known as a series -parallel switch of some sorts.

Lessons learned? Incomplete diagnosis of the original alternator before calling for a replacement? Did the miswiring damage the regulator on the original alternator? If one can get the regulator on ebay, why not just replace the regulator on the original (provided that a more thorough diagnosis was done), my guess is that it's cheaper.. Did the miswiring cause damage to the regulator on the new alternator that caused it to fail in a short amount of time? The hydraulic fluid didn't evaporate. Probably a leak somewhere that should be found.
