Had the same issue where a ground wire wasn't tighten properly on an engine block for a nissan car of which someone was working on. It was located under the intake manifold near the starter. Crank no start majority of the time then magically starts when it feels like it. When i touched the wire and saw that it was slack i jumped for joy cause i knew that was the problem. Tighten the ground properly, installed everything, turned the key and starts one time with no hesitation

It should be mandatory for every mechanic to watch your videos at least 5 hours a week after watching every video start over until they have skills as a real mechanic. I have been working on my own autos for over 60 years I wish I was younger so I could be more in touch with today's technology. I never miss your videos like always great thinking.

I have noticed in the comments some call it earth instead of ground. Is earth what a ground is called in the UK?

Excellent work, Ivan. I had a strong suspicion that it was a bad grond. The only problem would be isolating it. Your technique was fantastic!

I bought a low mileage Corolla with an automatic transmission once that acted crazy. It turned out to be the speedometer. I pulled out the cluster and replaced only the speedometer with a junk yard replacement and it drove like a new car. Toyotas are a different breed.

There are a number of funky ground points on the metal plenums on those 1MZ/3MZ engines. It's shocking how many CELs & mystery driveability problems have been created by people doing spark plugs as maintenance and missing a 10 or 12 MM ground fastener during reassembly. There is some truth to the idea of not touching old Toyotas unless they're really broken.

Ivan, you are a total Guru. I'm sitting here thinking from the first episode "Bad ground." (Erik O taught me that). You showed the process from "I think" to "I know, for sure."

I'm from London England. Ivan is the best. You should change your middle name to NO PARTS REQUIRED! now we can totally understand why the Mercedes 55 AMG SLK was shipped from Florida. It came from a customer who is tired of part changers and bs rip off stealerships. Ivan is what mechanics should be. Along with Diagnose Dan and Eric O. God Bless KZbin..

I'm thinking that the master tech was told not to fix it, it's a dealership after all and dealerships sell cars, specifically new cars, so they really don't want to repair an old car

Awesome video ! Thank you so much for sharing. I do have 1 question. My '89 Silverado with a 5.7 goes into what would normally be a choke mode, slightly higher RPM as I drive. If I throw it in neutral at a stop light, jab the throttle it kicks down to a correct idle. Any ideas ? Thanks !!

Wow, you're jumping all over the place tracing through a bunch of circuits that aren't the issue. While some people may find it interesting seeing your thought process I would much prefer that you figure it out 1st then just take us through the pertinent wiring. Makes you look smarter and far less confusing for those of us trying to follow where you're going. 😊

The entire point of the videos is to explain the diagnostic thought process in DETAIL! 😉 I traced all of the affected circuits and they led precisely to the problem... So they are ALL relevant!

the thing is Ivan, and you probably know this all to well, independant guys, like yourself, are solely dependent on your skill levels, because you have no back -up, where as shops. i.e. toyota, these guys are under the gun, are harassed with time constarints and cannot afford to due what you and others do, that is, take your time, be thorough, and not be Greedy! working for the man is a greed induced system. i ahve been there. it sucks. working for yourself is a survival technique which embues self-respect and compassion for others,i.e. your customerrs, because like yourself, we all pay too much for somewthing.
