This is a fantastic show I grew up with all these people because of my mother was rock and roll freak like Me. I also wonder it's Buddy Holly was still alive, broke the color barrier first white bands to ever played the Apollo, how often would he have gone back and how much more musical genius would have inspired

I worked one night at the Apollo as a security guard. I was completely by myself there that night. The Apollo supervisor was in an office in the building. There was one light shining on the stage and there I was, sitting on the right side of the stage all night. After an hour there, I went up the famous Apollo stairs to the other floors to see the different small dressing rooms. Then I walked down the same way Chris Rock walked down during the opening of his classic concert called Bigger and Blacker down those same steps that you can see on KZbin. I imagined in my head the stars that had started their careers there like Mariah Carey, James Brown, The Jacksons, Aretha, Boyz To Men, New Kids On The Block, New Edition, Mary J Blige, Biggie Smalls, Whitney Houston, and many more. The stage is tiny people. I couldn't believe how small the place is. The upper level seats are like almost on top of the stage. The feeling artists must have with an Apollo audience must be nice because it feels so intimate being so close to the audience. Don't get me wrong. There are a lot of seats there. I would guess there were more than 1,500 seats there. But, the history I felt just sitting there as this white guy absorbing in that energy was incredible and I'll never forget it.

TDave Savian Say? Really appreciate comment. Thanks for sharing. Likewise too did jobs as Security Officer. All the joys never would been unless taken risk having applied for this job. As a female was asked to be hostess and greeter and other positions at events beyound where normally worked as a Security Guard. It was quite an experience never knew whould open doors to such opportunities. An amazing job. Where the path Lord God has Us walk is a journey You'd nevert expect to wander. Somethings wonderful. Never a dull moment. Reflecting on such good memories.

This is great! Al Green came to slay! Some of the greatest musicians in the history of Jazz are in the orchestra pit! Benny Powell 2:46 (wearing the hat) is on trombone and Frank Wess 5:55 (left) is on sax and flute. The performed with The Count Basie Orchestra in the 50's and 60's. Basie played Apollo Theater. They too were Apollo Legends. There's probably more legends in the pit, I can't see. Special mention: 2:32 I think thats Warren Smith (still alive and well) on percussion.

I love this kind of music and the way men's cherished women...
@CurtisBenjaminIsrael44534 жыл бұрын
Most of us real men, STILL cherish our women!! Some of these men arent men enough, and dont want to stand up for our women, and instead, they want to be women themselves!!Smh. But, there are STILL real men, who is looking for a strong sister to cherish, and it is therefore up to these women to allow the man to play his role, as God intended, and she play hers also!!

How I wish there was an album (yes album) of these greats! All together! I’m a child of the 60’s. There was a black band who played in E.St. Louis every Saturday on State St. Amazing guys and this music. The best.
