Losi Lasernut Durability Test

Can the Losi Lasernut withstand even moderate use? The question has been raised about a possible engineering deficiency with the Losi Lasernut. There are plenty of videos of people bashing and ripping the Lasernut only to be disappointed with its durability. This video will explore the durability question from a different perspective.

That's perfect rock racer terrain and if you don't lift the Lasernut up in the sky you will have a lot of fun with it. I love mine and had no issues since 1 year. Breakage comes with wrong treatment and bad driving and people need to understand that a rock racer isn't designed to be a basher.

Man I want one of these sooo bad, especially since they’re on sale for $399 at my local shop right now. I’m gonna have to pass tho cause I’ve seen they’re not very durable which is such a bummer, it’s by far my favorite looking RC out there. Think ima go with the Losi DB pro now.

Hi I really enjoyed watching your honest, down to earth perspective and review. Maybe like you, I’m more of a moderate user. But I guess there are those who buy it to fully test it’s capability as advertised and they are not wrong. I’m still thinking of getting one though. A version 2 with upgrades to address user issues would be very welcomed by the community. The Losi Lasernut design is still exciting for most. However, a few thoughtful engineering upgrades would do the trick.

I just bought this car, I am taking it out today. I watch these out of curiosity but everyone drives different and in different terrain so I go with my gut alot on these purchases. I love the look of it and the deal i got was great, so we will see how she runs. In my limited experience with rc sometimes i make mistakes and I break them, fixing them is part of it imo. Good honest video and the most important thing is having fun. cheers

Thanks for the thoughtful video. I also have a Lasernut and have had a blast with it. I take it into a reservation near my house that has great trails and use it as it was designed. I'm not bashing it. I did break the right driveshaft from landing it awkwardly. Any other vehicle would have hit the body but I hit the 5.75" tire. That force broke the small axle. The center rear outdrive wore a groove in it as did the right rear outdrive. I did hear noise from the rear. Taking it apart the rear pinion was loose in the differential housing and eating it away. It would have blown within minutes of use. I have replaced the rear and front differential with the TEN SCTE 3.0 parts. Everything except the ring and pinion. The gears are beefier and the case is a higher quality of plastic. Hopefully this will resolve any diff problems. My suggestion for potential customers is to wait for V2 before buying. This is a 4S machine and we are paying for 4S. I do run alot of 3S too. On your property try 4S and you'll realize the big speed difference. In big spaces the speed is fun. Keep updating your progress. I only have 3 packs through mine at this time. 2 4S and one 3S since the diff repairs. Please note that the Arrma Typhon, for the same money can do everything the lasernut can do if 5.75" tires were on it. It even looks cool. I bought one of those too. In hindsight I should have passed on the Lasernut until V2.

Quick update, I have put another 8 packs through the LN. The diffs are holding up well. I've been running along side railroad tracks near my house. Lots of bumps and whoops. The Lasernut handles it very well with the AVC cranked up. On 4S I did hit 20mph on the rail bed. Super impressive. How is yours doing?

Thanks for this video. I really like the style of the more scale models. But it seems that most modern cars/trucks have moved away from scale styling and have become too cartoonish for my tastes. So, I've been really interested in perhaps picking up a Lasernut next. But have had reservations due to all of the reported issues. Then again, it seems that hardcore bashing has become the predominant use of RC buggies and trucks these days so all of the negative reviews I've seen have been launching them over and over off of huge jumps, bad landings, etc... Just generally abusing the vehicle. For that use I guess an Arrma would be up to it, but I don't expect all vehicles to be. But, your use is exactly how I like to use mine... more in line with a scale version of how the actual Lasernut is used, and they don't go off of 500' (scaled) jumps!. And for my application 3S is likely plenty. I often run my 3S buggies and truck on 2S and find it does fine for my application since I'm not doing speed runs or huge air. So, your video is appreciated as it gives me a better idea of what I can expect out of the buggy for how I plan to use it. Now I feel a bit more comfortable buying one, setting it up for 3S, checking mesh in all diffs, and enjoying it for what it is; a very cool looking scale off-road racer buggy.

My son did break one of the front drive shafts recently. In the same place others have reported them breaking. However, my son hit a rock and the drive shaft had already been bent and straightened out by me so it was weakened. We'll be replacing both front drive shafts with OEM parts. I'll see how long they last.
@michaelc3416
@michaelc3416 2 жыл бұрын
@@Comfort_One_Another Thanks for the update. I've been trying to research these buggies but it's difficult to get a good feel for them due to the fact that almost every video is of extreme bashing, with repeated big air jumps. Horses for courses, and all that... These buggies are designed to be an RTR U4 racing buggy, not a stunt basher. And anyone that's ever seen a real U4 event knows that big air is not part of the track layout. If I wanted a basher to "send", I'd be looking at an Arrma Kraton or some such. Being an RTR, I don't expect them to really be competitive in U4 without upgrades, but I'd like to at least get a feel for how well they do while doing what they're intended for... Yours is really the only real world video review I've seen to date that tells me what I'm hoping to find; how the buggy does in normal off-road terrain and trail type conditions. So thanks for taking the time...

Just one person's opinion, but calling the contents of this video a "durability test" is a real stretch of that particular phrase. The Lasernut in this video was put into about as much danger as a drift car. The Lasernut truly excels at driving around on flat ground with no obstacles on it... but you could have driven a Tamiya rally car on everything shown here, with a similar level of "durability." The driving I saw here was a degree removed from wrapping it in cottonwool and putting it on a shelf. Getting an hour out of a 5A battery is kinda indicative-- I get ~25 minutes out of 6A.
@Comfort_One_Another
@Comfort_One_Another 2 жыл бұрын
I made if very clear from the beginning of the video that this was a durability test to see if the Lasernut could handle light to moderate use. It's not my fault if you're disappointed because I didn't do the exact opposite of what I said.
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon 2 жыл бұрын
@@Comfort_One_Another What could conceivably lead anyone to believe that a Lasernut-- or any hobby-grade RC vehicle-- couldn't handle that level of "abuse?" While fully understanding that it is a wholly subjective term, I kept waiting to see "moderate use," but that certainly never happened.
@Comfort_One_Another
@Comfort_One_Another 2 жыл бұрын
@@CrawlerCanyon There were videos demonstrating that Lasernuts were breaking prematurely. I was curious if the Lasernut would break under the conditions you see in the video I made. We did experience bent driveshafts and now a broken driveshaft. Therefore I would conclude that driveshafts are a weak point on the Lasernut regardless of how its run.
