They don't schedule it that way. Games are scheduled several years in advance. So you'll never really know what you're getting when the time comes to play your non-conf opponents. Furthermore, only fans view us as easy games, rest assured after 07' there is not a coaching staff (and players if they have any sense) that won't take App St seriously. They may feel they can beat us IF they play but they know it won't be an easy battle.

I remember when mid major teams like Boise St and App St could pull off some upsets but couldn't sustain for a whole season because they didn't get the same athletes as the big time schools. That is different now. The O line and defensive front 7 of App St looks so big and athletic. It almost looked like SC was playing LSU at times. App St is legit.

@@christhornton1785 Yeah, I'm thinking that is the case, too. I like Muschamp, but he's missing some key head coach DNA somewhere. What's the main complaint with Muschamp teams? Offense. I feel like we'd be better off lining it up old school pro style with a simpler playbook, at least in games where we have greater size and talent. The way I understand it, the spread started as a compensatory offense for teams that didn't have the same talent as the big boys. I could be wrong, but all of these sideline audibles seem to be trying to be too clever. What if somebody's showing something to on defense to get you to audible out of what you do well? I could be wrong, but it seems like the game could benefit from some older offensive styles returning with some modern twists. Take the perennial success of option teams against modern defenses, for instance. That's just my $0.02, so take it for what it's worth.

Beat an underrated UNC team and won every other game, including wins over Charlotte and Coastal Carolina to solidify themselves as the best team in the Carolinas outside of Clemson.

Ok, so I’m going to give reasons for South Carolina’s loss. 1. Injuries. We had just a handful of starters on both sides of the ball, including Brian Edwards, although that was only the first half. 2. We can’t run. For whatever reason, our O line couldn’t block, and our backs couldn’t run. 3. Our receivers dropped sooooooo many passes. Like, and absurd amount of passes. In the first half alone, I’m pretty sure we had 4 or 5 dropped passes. That should be in 4 or 5 games, not ONE. 5. Hilinski CHOKED on that last play. Not a defender in sight but he thought it’d be a fantastic idea to throw it at a fan. Yeah, sure am proud to be a Gamecock. Now Muschamp is in trouble but I think only a little bit of this was his fault.

@@andrewingram2520 Even if they had gotten into the top ten, there'd be NO CHANCE of making the current 4 team playoff system. UCF was undefeated for forever (and beat Auburn) and still didn't sniff the playoffs. Not gonna happen until they expand the system to at least 8 teams.

@Austin Shipman maybe... they've beaten top SEC teams for the championship, and stood tall when they didn't, so i feel like they're legit, or at least were legit--havent watched them this year. However, point taken, they could easily get beat up in the SEC, especially the west. Many good teams do each year. However, USC has not approached that level since the 11 win seasons and the five victories over the Tigers. Even then, we didn't really get close to winning a natty. Sad, but true. Wish it were different.

We need to take a page from the plans of teams like App State and build experience so every few years we're can make a real run on the East and maybe more. We'll never be able to build teams off of sheer talent, we're need to build experience and toughness across the board to support the talent we have. Until we do that, all the Bryan Edwardses and Deebo Samuels of the world will be wasted.

Several decades ago, Sports Illustrated came out with an article that said South Carolina was the number one major college sports program in the country for getting the less victories for the money spent on the program.
