I first heard (and laughed my ass off ) this in the 00s. I was in Austin and we had a local talk show, The Jeff Ward Show and he stumbled on it and for about a week he would play “Hot Hot Hot.” Then Appalachian beat Michigan so Jeff played it again. We all LOVED it. Then a few years later I had to hire someone for our office in Charlotte. I’m going through tons of resumes and I see this one gentleman who was a graduate of Appalachian State. I looked closer and he actually was qualified so I hired him. I didn’t tell him that “Hot Hot Hot” really got him the job! Then they up and beat Texas A & M! I’m a University of Texas fan and they are a big rival so that also made me giggle. From what my hire told me back in the 00s it is a really nice little school.

So this was never used as a promo video for students...it was made for the Appalachian Family Caravan tour by a committee in 2004, to promote their visit, and apparently those people loved it. Look at the Appalachian Online article.

As an App alum, I used to be embarrassed of this video. I used to wonder how anyone could have put together such a terrible promo, even if it was never intended to get out to the wider public. After Saturday, it's a badge of honor. It's one thing to say you're hot. Saturday we showed it.

@coldsnap5742 Yes it was! And in the 16(!) years since I commented on this video, everyone at App has come full circle on this video. We all kinda love it now. I mean, we don't use it--the university never did, outside of a few small alumni gatherings--but it's gone from being legitimately embarrassing to being embarrassing like a bad 3rd-grade school picture. As a side note, these videos were produced for alumni/parent "meet the Chancellor" events for our then-Chancellor, Ken Peacock. (Hence the goofy line "Solid as a Rock and proud as a Peacock". The Rock is the nickname for Kidd Brewer Stadium.) Ken Peacock just passed away a few weeks ago, which came as a shock to many. He was retired, and hadn't been sick, to anyone's knowledge, and died in his sleep. So this video has a little extra poignancy now.

This is really neat, live 50 miles away from this place and we beat one the best teams in the nation (supposedly). Don't talk bad about appalachian state, they're the real deal. 2500 passing and 1000 yard rushing quarterback as a freshman! and a 1700 yard rushing runningback. The team averaged 49 points game i think. Pretty damn amazing...
