Don't know if this is old news, but the Rockfish Gap Outfitters in Waynesboro, prior to SNP for NOBO hikers, is permanently closed. I know some hikers depend on that

Several section hikers throughout the years have told me that they end up registering as thru hikers, because it's much easier on the ATC website .They say the maps for your start/end point rarely work right , after a few tries they get mad and give up .

Gave me a bit of a scare when you said Sunday the 8th. I was thinking "all my planning is wrong...I hike 2 days from now, not 3!" :) Will be at Amicalola Wedsnesday night the 10th. THE TENTH! Then Springer on the 11th. The rest of the trail is subject to change. Also, just a note but ATypical is NOT going on the hike, she decided this was not for her and her autism...it was all a bit much. I will be hiking with Buzz.

Registering for a yellow tag means you are telling everyone what you intend to do. You might make it. A 25% chance you will even come close. That is all it is. Nobody is a thru hiker till they are one. Openly wearing a yellow brag tag is a good way to show you think way too much of yourself. Remember, there was a time when yellow brag tags didn't exist. People just hiked without global video coverage.

Not everyone brags on their tags. Mine was blue last year and I forgot that I even had one. I finished section hiking the trail in 2022 and decided to try a thru last year. I had my share of injuries, ending with a double tear in my meniscus in New Hampshire 275 miles after skipping up from mile 810. A couple of dayhikes and overnighters later I made it 1,100 miles and called it just before Christmas. I am awaiting total knee replacement and will try another flip-flop next year if I can afford it. I'm 70 years old. I just love to hike and be with hikers. Tinker, halfway, '23.

Every single shelter has some graffiti, no way to absolutely stop it. Worse than sharpies writing on the wall are carved out initials, etc with a knife--more permanent. I don't like it either, however I will admit to getting a few laughs from some of the musings, poetry, etc.
