Dereck, that just sucks! Hard and steadfast! I’m sure this doesn’t mean much coming from someone that you don’t know in the least. But you have inspired me again. Who knows if I will act upon that or not. I hadn’t watched any thru hikers in a few years now. Then I stumbled across your channel. It just seemed different. There was so much more there that hit home than just the usual hiking Vlogs. You see, I am one of the tired old clichés from the US military that has PTSD, etc. and I am trying to find my way to doing something useful. To accomplish something that I can actually be proud of. Your introspection on the trail has kind of pushed me that way. Here’s to hoping that both you and I end up on the trail next year. First pint of Guinness is on me……

God has given you a "Gift" my friend. You have touched so many hearts and souls across thousands of miles through your spirit, never even knowing them or it. It is just natural for you: That is why it is a "Gift". I truly hope that God has a special place in Heaven for the few folks like yourself, whom bring peace to others on this crazy, lost planet and remind us of "WHO" and where we are at this moment. May peace follow you brother. And may the remainders of your trails be mostly smooth and downhill. "Cool Runnings" my friend. (Standing Ovation) Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, BRAVO!!!!!

I really appreciate what you have to say here and thank you for the standing ovation haha PS. I sometimes think the gift was 'courage' because without courage, I would never have pursued the experiences from which the storytelling comes. And this gift was perhaps given to me via my parents/god :) Thanks again!
