Thank you to everyone who has left nice comments and apologies. I appreciate it. I am sure you can imagine how confused I was waking up to this this morning. Thank you to everyone who has explained what happened to me as well, either with a comment here or through email. I originally thought my video or audio was used, but it sounds like it was a voice actor who happened to tell a story of an Appalachian Trail hiker who shares the first name as me (Hopwood is not my surname). I don't think I would be able to take any action against SEAB or Cambridge because, at the most, my videos inspired the story and my likeness was not used. I don't take the mean comments or threats personally and can understand how stressful and difficult exams are. I am sorry this particular voiceover that was similar to my story was difficult. I wish you all the best of luck on your future exams and maybe you'll see a Singapore travel vlog from me in the future!

Hello Singapore friends. I’m not even very clear on what exactly happened. I’m so sorry a similar experience to mine was used in your LC exam. I can assure you that wasn’t my voice in the voiceover and I had nothing to do with how hard your exam was. I hope you understand that I truly didn’t have anything to do with this. I’d love to visit Singapore at some point in the future so I hope you give me some grace and let me come! This was crazy to wake up to. I’ve deleted some of the mean comments.

Hi Alicia, If you are bewildered by the numerous conmments hating on what you do, please ignore them. We just took our ‘O’ Level examinations, which is a national exam taken at Secondary 4/Grade 10. Unfortunately, you were featured in the listening comprehension exam in the section where we had to fill in the blanks. Numerous students found this difficult, and thus are taking out their rage on your channel. Please do not take it to heart. I encourage you to keep going in your profession. As a content creator from Singapore, can I urge students to PLEASE stop leaving negative comments on Alicia's channel. I totally get the meme aspect because of how difficult the LC exam was, but directing your grievances towards someone who wasn't involved is not the right way to go about it. Not really an outdoors person (i stay indoors and watch/edit videos all day hehe) but keep doing what you're doing Alicia, all the best with your channel, exploring the forest and whatever your heart desires. alicia, actually, don’t worry so much about the comments- it was an unfortunate coincidence that your name was used as the hikers persona on our listening comprehension, and the lady that was voicing it didn’t do a very good job. for further context- the listening comprehension is one of the factors (paper 3) of one of our major national exams, which we take at the age of sixteen. i’m pretty sure that this will all blow over after a while😭 i think this is how us students are trying to vent our anger at the examination board for giving us such a complicated listening comprehension test.. don’t let this bring you down!! keep doing what you do 🌷

Hi Alicia, just wanted to let you know incase you are confused about the influx of comments about LC. LC stands for listening comprehension. It is one part of our english examination. In one part of the exam, there was a "Alicia hopwood" that talked about the Appalaician trail. That section was particularly difficult. Hence, why you may be receiving more negative comments or queries about taking the trail from south to north. Thank you for sharing your gear list. I think it was helpful for the hikers. this is all seab's fault lah, i actually appreciate this effort that you put in and seab just decided to take it, and I can confidently say I managed to get most answers for that section in the o level lc lol, but here is the start of the rest of the papers, so im WISHING EVERY SEC 4 IN SINGAPORE GOOD LUCK AND ACHIEVE A1s!!! hi alicia I don’t know if you’ll see this but I’m so sorry for whatever happened with all the O level students. it’s not your fault that something similar to your story was used for our exam, and those negative comments should never have been made. even if it was just for jokes and sarcasm, and if they didn’t mean what they said, it still doesn’t justify them taking it out on you for something you couldn’t control. in fact, they shouldn’t even be mad at you, but at the voiceover instead. from your perspective of someone who had no idea of what was going on, it must’ve been so confusing to suddenly have your comments section flooded by a bunch of frustrated students. truly am sorry for this unfortunate situation. hope you can forgive us for this misunderstanding, and wish us luck for the remaining exams we have left. on the bright side, you seem like a genuinely nice lady with a big heart. your love for nature is admirable and your passion for doing the things you love is definitely something to be proud of. your story is very inspiring and I hope more people get to see just how amazing you are 🩷. hope you get to explore more of the world! you’re more than welcome to visit Singapore if you’d like :) wishing you the safest of travels and the best of luck. xx

Yes, a lot of ppl couldn't hear clothes-drying facilities n wrote clothes hanging n so-on. Most of us were just salty bcs the pronunciation was masked n decipherable. My peers even wrote mandatory permits or travel out of genuine conf.

Hi Alicia! I am a 10th Grader from Singapore and I would like to say that I respect what you do. As a fellow hiker, I really enjoy this community as it is quite a rather unique sport in my opinion. One day when I am older, I would also like to try out the Appalachian Trail just like you did! Oh my god, as a former student from Singapore that has taken the listening comprehension before. I am so sorry for the hate you've received over something that isn't your fault at all. Hi Alicia. I hope you know all the people who left such horrid comments on this video do not resonate with the way most of us are thinking. There is little to no empathy or critical thinking going on in the comments that are saying mean things to you. However, and im sure im not speaking just for myself, you have a lot of supporters here as well that truly think you’re a wonderful woman who is following her passions for hiking, and we respect that. You had nothing to do with the examination and i hope people get the hint to not take this even further by continuing to spam hate. We love you Alicia and i promise that if you do decide to come to Singapore, we’ll treat you to hot pot and show you all the kindness you deserve

Sorry to hear what has happened. For some context, for Singaporean kids in that age range this exam mean the world to them because the education system is very specifically designed to be that way - it is effectively the only viable means of social mobility in the country. It is not dissimilar to the 'GaoKao' in China. After many years and despite talk of educational reform it is not encouraging to hear that the system is still putting students through the grinder. The other context I would mention is that Singapore kids would find camping or hiking a very foreign concept if they had never had an experience overseas or joined scouts or girl guides because Singapore is more or less an urban concrete jungle. In fact, my own personal experience with camping was only when I stumbled across a Kathmandu store Down Under and found lots of interesting gear. I hope that your Appalachian trip has gone well! Unfortunately the tallest hill we have in Singapore is Bukit Timah Hill at only 164m.

i'm honestly really glad to see the nice, sincere comments on here but also damn shocked by the number of disgusting hateful comments left on here. i expected that 16-17 year old sec 4s n 5s would have a certain level of social morality to think twice and not do this kind of shit on somebody's channel after the listening compre exam ends. and let people on the internet have a bad impression of singaporeans... it's v shameful. as a singaporean i want to apologize on behalf of all the o' lvl students who left hateful comments on this channel :/ even if they didn't mean what they said or js left a casual hate remark as a meme or jumping on the bandwagon it doesnt justify the hate and frustrations against alicia who has nth to do w the exams and the LC passage... she is not cambridge, she is not seab.

As a sec 4 student myself, we always wish death upon the fictional characters that give us headaches during the exam. It's something we always do and has been mostly harmless since, you know, the characters are fictional. However, we DO NOT wish death upon actual people. I'm surprised people even searched this up. I was only alerted to this video by a friend. You seem like a nice person, and you definitely didn’t deserve the hate. I'm really sorry this happened to you.

Hi, from Singapore, you don't need apology, it is not your fault, I don't understand why they confuse your voice to the exam voice. If you come to Singapore, you can go MacRitchie Reservoir or Bukit Timah Hill for hiking.

I'm not a part of the cohort who took the exam, but I am appalled by what my fellow students have done. Personally I find the part that everyone else is complaining about the easiest in the paper, but again don't take the mean comments to heart as this dosen't represent all of us Singaporeans. Looks like a solid kit! That nitecore power bank is sooo light - but be prepared for a long recharge time. Only 18w going in I believe… that’s around 5.5 hours at a restaurant stop. Anker makes a 20000 that recharges at 65w = 1.5 hours. It’s heavier but the convenience is outta this world 😊 (A1383 I believe)
