GE. So cool watching all you do. A note about shellac: It comes in flakes that you can disolve in alcohol and thus are able to reverse it with more alcohol after it dries. I hope you find that useful. Happy fun times.

Could you keep the dust and use it for cold casting? Sprinkle it into a silicone mold for a nice polishable surface.
@Groundeffected14 сағат бұрын
I’m not sure about that. I could’ve kept the dust if I didn’t try to melt it and in the process blow hot flecks of gold dust all over the place.

So secretly it wasn’t my first time making the chain. But my first time using gold and especially an alloy and not a pure mailable metal like silver for example. It’s a bit more scary when the material is the same price as a couple months rent 👀

You can smelt the dust it's just a bit more complicated than blasting it with a torch. Some of the "sand" and "paper" from the sand paper came off with it so you have to basically separate the gold out. Simplest way would be to try to use an old fashioned gold pan but dunno how well that would work if the filings were real fine so might need a more complicated process.
@Groundeffected14 сағат бұрын
Yea it was super fine it wouldn’t melt for nothing. I burned and burned. It just blew up when I tried to mix it it wouldn’t get hot enough to melt was a nightmare.

@vasilisanasopoulos260014 сағат бұрын
In my humble opinion you don't need castable resin. Just try the recast process. Make a 3d printed model as usual. Make a mold for the model using rtv silicone and then use the mold to make copies with any resin and also at this point you can cold-cast. Meaning instead of polyester or polyurethane resin, you can add metallic dust in the mix and the final outcome is pretty much indistinguishable from forged metal
@Groundeffected14 сағат бұрын
The thing about printing in castable is it saves a ton of time on the mould making. The whole extra steps of making a mould to make a model to then make a mould to then burn out to cast is just so much extra stuff and steps. But I’m gonna look into this cold casting to see if it’s gonna do what I want.
