So glad you went ahead and tried out this lens! I guess what I originally meant to say is that this lens has character that I enjoy just as much as the 35 f/1.4 but the character is different. I find it in many ways to be similar to some Voigtlander lenses. I rarely shoot at .095 since I don't need that razor thin DOF. The sweet spot is between f/1.8 to f/2.8. The smooth aperture ring is frustrating and the lens is a little hefty (great build quality though) but the overall organic look and smooth bokeh that it produces makes up for that. I'm still using this lens everyday in tandem w/ my 35 f/1.4 and I love the images they produce each for different reasons.

@@Iamtongue I got really excited at the start of the video and then I was like oh no am I going to be able to comment on this video without getting roasted 😂. I hope you enjoy the lens as much as I do. I know there are a crazy amount of "character" lenses out there but this one truly is good quality and to me it stands out. Try shooting it with the Acros simulation for even more of that organic vintage rendering goodness.

If you're looking for funky lenses with a little magic you gotta give the xf60 a whirl. AF is a ballache and it's not a true macro but if you can get past those two things it is an absolute sleeper of a lens, I love it to bits.

Yeah, I don't see it either. The XF35mm f1.4 is unique and I don't see the same rendering with the Meike... oh and btw, that what you first thought was a click less aperture ring is your Focus ring but you know that by now, and the f/stop numbers below it is actually your manual Zone Focus scale according to your f/stop number.

@@Iamtongue I agree for photography but videographers beg to differ. I am in the camp that photography lenses should Work like photography lenses. The filmmaking community is making photography lens makers compromise to be relevant in the videography market and it's ruining it for photographers.

Photography is ALL about practicing and training. That's what I repeat over and over to my students during workshops. If you want to snap... snap, this is not photography. If you want to create... get out there and practice. Lots ! Then, when you have trained your mind and eyes to what means "creating an image", it just does not matter if the thing clicks or clicks not or swishes or swooshes... when you have practice, you know your camera and lens(es) and you know what to do with them. And how. Those are tools... learn and understand how to use them, for tools are meant to be used. Not discussed for hours. Click or not, its not the subject. Know your gear and work with what you have. Today's photographers have TONS of gear, about 20× what existed in the 1980s, and they still complain. Stop whining... create images.
@artsilva

@@gillesmatheronpro The "practice of Photography" goes without saying. We are (or were a year ago) discussing a lens rendering qualities, and with ANY tool in every chosen career path there are different ones and many makes of the same tool but with different qualities, same goes with cameras and lenses. It is when you have done the practice that you recognize what each tool gives you and you make the educated decision to use it or not... That may be "whining" to you but it is a discussion that every seasoned photographer has when comparing tools at their disposal just as a mechanic comes one tool compared to his shop partner. It's called "talking shop". Going out to create images is the end product of all these learning discussions of what each tool can uniquely give you in your photographs.. again, these are discussions that those who have experience and knowledge will regularly have because most likely they know what they want, it is why Ansel Adams regularly had both medium format and large format for what he wanted to create with, tools that gave him certain results for what he wanted and it intended purpose.
@artsilva
@artsilva 4 ай бұрын
@@gillesmatheronpro That goes without saying, however talking shop or discussing different tools of the trade is a normal part of the craft. Obviously you should just go out and create images but there is no harm in discussing what each tool can do for your image creating. Saying this is "whining" is a bit harsh don't you think? It is wise to recognize these are two completely different topics you are ranting on. You can talk about lens comparisons WHILE going out and practicing your craft, everyone does it even back in the good ole days like we all did when I began in the 70s where lens discussions were Always a big topic among peers. We all were curious on how different lenses, lens brands performed for what we are shooting at the time.
