When you're 10, every day is a larger percentage of your life, when you're 40 every day is 1/4 that length by comparison. Every day blurs into the next faster and faster. :(

Also once you are out of school, you don't really get that same sense of time, because you have summer breaks etc, so when you are out of school and working time kinda just blurs as you said.

I'm 71. I was lousy at school, but I have been told that I have an unusual large number of personal memories. I have read that if something is traumatic, either good or bad, adrenaline can be released, and it can act to imprint a memory. I must have had a lot of trauma. Anyway, when older people pass away from natural causes, what the person experienced in his or her last years seems to have the most significance to the loved ones left behind. I look at my life as if it were a long mural painted on a wall with my childhood on one end, and my last years on the other end. All of the sections of the mural have approximately the same significance. It has gone by too fast.

"What is a yellow light", slow down...."What.....you get it. If you think you're old, I got you beat by 11 years (7/25/1962). You hit the nail on the head on just about everything regarding getting old. I just turned 60, and probably am older than all your subscribers. How many subscribers saw Bobby Orr playing in the 70's. I did many times. One time it was against Vancouver (Boston won). I grew up next to a pond and played hockey every day after school. Hockey is expensive and we were not rich, but I played youth hockey. My team was the North Stars. I remember watching the California Golden Seals on a black & White T.V. set with rabbit ears. Since California was so far from Boston the picture was blurry. I'll tell you, those days in the 70's were the best and I wouldn't trade them in for what's going on in the world today, that's for sure.

I'm a 1994 baby (28yo) and this past year (2022) went by so fast for me, by far the fastest then any other year I've lived through. I swear it was only like February not long ago, then winter rolled into spring, rolled summer, rolled into autumn, and then Christmas came out of nowhere and now it's all of a sudden the end of 2022. Time goes by ALOT fastest when you get older.

This definitely stirs me up a bit. I'm about to be 27 and yet I feel like I've been grappling with a lot of this lately. Summer of 2008 feels like just yesterday, my first summer with an Xbox 360, playing Halo 3, going on bike rides with my grandfather, watching the entirety of The X-Files with my parents, buying my first rock album. It was all so distinct and new and different. I sometimes think how things were simpler when I was growing up during the mid-2000s, where you had just enough technology to have fun, but before social media made everything toxic. But what you can't appreciate is that everyone older than you feels the same way about the decade they grew up, why it was better and for their own reasons. Sometimes it scares me to think that time just keeps accelerating because then I know there'll be a day when I stop and realize I'm suddenly 60 or 70 or maybe even 80, and my time here will be finished, and while I don't think I fear actually passing, what I fear might be just not getting to do everything I want to before then. Everyone's life takes a different path, some people hit certain milestones in their 20s, others in their 50s. A mildly optimistic realist, my only hope is that I can hit those milestones someday, knowing I'm in no way guaranteed them. They don't have to come tomorrow, but I just hope at least that they happen. Probably the thing I miss most about being young is having no concept of how fast time really is and not being able to appreciate your own innocence. We always say when we're kids "I can't wait to be older". I even catch myself sometimes thinking "I can't wait to be living out on my own". I know the day will inevitably come and I'll be sitting there, wishing I could be home, go back, etc. I realize now that perhaps the thing I wish I could have back from being a child the most would be not being able to think too much. To feel that slowness of time, to be oblivious to the world, and to believe that everything will last as it is forever. You're told as a child that the world will have changes, but you don't have a concept of that because the few years you've been around, you've never seen any. Put some decades in the bank, and you can definitely admit that the world has changed during your life. If only our existence was a simulation on par with Groundhog Day.

I definitely identify with this video. Some of my most vivid memories are from the summer of 1977, I was 11 years old and clearly remember standing in line with three of my friends(for several hours) to see a movie made by some guy named George Lucas, with a bunch of actors we had never heard of and Alec Guinness and nobody could understand why this guy was in a science fiction movie. That was also the summer that NY had a massive blackout in the middle of an ungodly heat wave, and a guy named David Berkowitz who had been running around shooting people sitting in parked cars at night was finally captured, among other things.....

21:30 and especially from 21:40 is Gold. I think it's social anxiety, at least on my part it was. I feel like a lot of people who "knew" me back then never actually really knew me. I had trouble "being myself" around others. I still do sometimes. I think it's gotten better with age though.

Born in 1970. I've had similar thoughts recently: aging happens gradually, and parts of us age at different rates; and I feel young-ish mentally most of the time, but definitely not physically. I joke with my teenaged nephews that when I talk about the technological change in my lifetime, I must sound like I'm 100. My first three computers lacked a hard drive--a TI-99/4A, a Commodore 128, and a first-generation 8086 IBM PC clone. My fourth computer, a 286, had a 40-megabyte hard drive, which would not have held one music album's worth of MP3 files.

Ive seen a lot of hockey youtubers over the past 5-6 years but the less than 10k sub THG stood out the most and was the only one I never stopped watching over time. And that is because of you behind THG. You’re genuine, I love the insight of your life along with hockey (your 2011 cup final video) and you’ve always stayed true to what THG is about. Its amazing to see the numbers you have, sometimes I cant believe how many people you’ve reached. P.S. I was loving this video, and then I got a 30 min iphone 14 pro ad based around Indian culture and it was AMAZING. Watched the entire ad, so hope that helps with the revenue 😂

Time does go faster as you get older, because you are always busy, with work, family, etc. When your younger you find yourself being bored because there appears to be less to keep yourself busy. You are correct your body starts to break down when you reach a certain age.

Turned 40 this year. I identify with a lot here. Oddly, the one that hits home the hardest is the summer camp comments. I worked at a summer camp when I was 15, the year after I was too old to be a camper there. I had amazing experiences that summer. I did *not* go back the summer after, and at first regretted it, but then had what was an even more amazing summer, spent with the girl who would become my future wife. My life would absolutely have been different -- probably for the worse -- had I gone back again that summer. Completely random anecdote you probably didn't need, I realize. But the point is, I feel you. We're all experiencing this crazy stuff as we whizz by on this rock in space, and what you're saying resonates with a lot of us. Cheers.

I can go around to so many places here and think oh such and such was here loved that place, sadly it died in the 2000s

Some things I hate about getting old are all the death amongst family and heroes of my youth, and the smallest of injuries taking forever to heal which slowly eats away at what I used to be physically motivated to do. So yes, the brain still thinks I'm 20, but the body says slow your roll, Grandpa.

The concept of nostalgia and time flying has always fascinated me. I started noticing it with the movie American Graffiti. It came out in 1973 and was a huge deal portraying the great times people had from way back in 1962. Eleven years earlier! Would people today get excited watching a movie about the summer before they went to college in 2012? Another example was when in 1980 I bought a 69 Mustang and despite being rusted and pretty worn-out, it felt like I was buying this cool, old classic car. Fast forward to today and my daily driver is 11 years old and it seems like I bought it yesterday.

Hey there, fun video. I am also turning 50 in 2023. It's weird for me because things that were so popular and important to people, I just totally missed. I was bogged down in work and other things and so when you say you feel like it was a different person in your memories, I've always said I feel like I'm a replicant from Blade Runner or something. Plugging in some memories, but they might not be yours. Being this age is strange, because we've heard and enjoyed so much music that I can go from a Megadeth song to the Go-Gos and be perfectly happy and it's not weird. That's weird.

yeah time seems to fly, def the big advice i got early on was that eventually the body gets old in the 70s, so active hobbies should be enjoyed while they could be. I'm glad you're still using the treadmill and being active, that is very important to stay active approaching the 5-O. but don't be too discouraged by people calling you old at 50. 50 - 60 you can still be active and do physical activity. my dad even beat his college bench max at 48. keep going man and keep up the good work. love your stuff

I certainly can attest to new experiences being helpful in terms of keeping my mind fresh. I recently went to Vegas a few weeks ago & I went to 3 casinos that I had not been to before or had not explored in detail on previous trips there. For example I explored in detail MGM Grand & found it to be absolutely awesome in terms of its size & the amount of things you can do there. I am hoping that my trip to San Jose/the Bay Area in mid February for a Kraken road game will be equally as helpful as I have never been to that part of the US before.

Same age. Don't know how true this is, but I've heard that the reason that time seems to go by faster is because relatively speaking it kind of does. When you're 1, and 1 year passes, that one year has been half your life span. When you're 49 and one year passes, it's only 1/50th of your life span. I still remember when a week seemed like a long time, and a whole summer was like forever. Now, it's like I blink and where the hell did the year go?

Do you remember the Drive In in Chwk? Saw Monty Python and the Holy Grail and a first... a Swedish soft-core. My fav memories of the Paramount was seeing Little Big Man with my Great Grandma and her trying to cover my eyes during the sexy stuff. Then when I was older and sitting in an almost empty theatre with my buddy Paul and seeing Peter Sellars at his best in Being There.

It was the '03 finals for me. That was my first finals and I thought it was amazing, even though the Might Ducks lost. Most people, aside from the Stevens/Kariya moments, thought it was a very boring final.

Odds are, you can remember things more if you do things for the first time at least much more than the 10th or 100th time you do things. When you get older, you do fewer things for the first time so just make less memories. Fewer memories creates a perception that time is moving faster.

I really relate to you mentioning how different the 'simple' things were for us as kids (I was born in '74). I can still remember my grandparents taking me to the mall with them, and spending ALL my time in the toy section of Sears or JC Pennys, or being left at the mall toy store while they shopped. Also, never getting to spend hours in a ToysRus, getting to physically look and touch every toy you wish you could have. Now, kids look at toys online, on their phones, texting and sharing to their parents the toys they see that they want. Glad we got to experience those times.

My parents raised me (a gen Z) Similar, I never had a phone till around 14, I never had an iPad or any access to internet till I was 12 and I couldn’t watch or play video games for more than 2 hours a day. Naturally I played outside, made forts all that stuff it’s great I’m so happy being 19 now and appreciating the experiences I had as a kid because Although I’m still extremely young it does feel like things go by faster now that I’m out of school and working

Also, what you say about the '80s I'd delete and insert '90s into that sentence in my case (even though I also like a lot of '80s music and a lot of retro music that goes back decades and some even beyond a century earlier). I came to the (possible) realization a short time ago, parked at a cafe and making notes and wrapping up after meeting with a client, with STP's Tiny Music... going in my earphones, that there's probably some part of my brain that because I was right in the heart of my young adolescence, 12-13, when that album came out I experience it differently than people who weren't that age at the time would. It's psychological. It's the same feeling and neural firing early-mid boomers get when they talk about the Beatles, or the Stones. I hear "Big Bang Baby it's a crash crash crash" the same way some would hear "Jumping Jack Flash it's a gas gas gas" (and I like both songs but there's something about some of the music that dropped when I was 12-14 that I have a sort of permanency of appetite for, even though I listen to anything and everything, basically whatever I'd fail a polygraph saying that I don't like, I might as well just come out and admit that I really like it. If that means multiple blasts of "Temperature" by Sean Paul while out on the go in between in between the 2022 Chilean thrash metal masterpiece that is Intruder of Reality by Insecurity then so be it. Insecurity sounds like they discovered a year in between 1986 and 1987 though, like the album was secretly released in 1986.5.).
