Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix.Symptoms commonly include right lower abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and decreased appetite.However, approximately 40% of people do not have these typical symptoms.Severe complications of a ruptured appendix include widespread, painful inflammation of the inner lining of the abdominal wall and sepsis.
Appendicitis is caused by a blockage of the hollow portion of the appendix.This is most commonly due to a calcified "stone" made of feces.Inflamed lymphoid tissue from a viral infection, parasites, gallstone, or tumors may also cause the blockage.This blockage leads to increased pressures in the appendix, decreased blood flow to the tissues of the appendix, and bacterial growth inside the appendix causing inflammation.The combination of inflammation, reduced blood flow to the appendix and distention of the appendix causes tissue injury and tissue death.If this process is left untreated, the appendix may burst, releasing bacteria into the abdominal cavity, leading to increased complications.
The diagnosis of appendicitis is largely based on the person's signs and symptoms.In cases where the diagnosis is unclear, close observation, medical imaging, and laboratory tests can be helpful. The two most common imaging tests used are an ultrasound and computed tomography (CT scan).CT scan has been shown to be more accurate than ultrasound in detecting acute appendicitis.However, ultrasound may be preferred as the first imaging test in children and pregnant women because of the risks associated with radiation exposure from CT scans.

So get up, go to the bathroom and instead of puking my heart starts speeding up and pounding. I had appendicitis when I was 12. I don't know how long it went on for, but it was for at least two months, I would constantly puke and have stomach aches and fever sweats / shivering and being clammy. It was horrible. But my mother kept writing me off as a stomach flu or something despite me crying desperately to her, but it kept on happening and luckily one day she believed me enough take me to the doctor. He told me to cough and instantly I grasped my stomach and cried and he instantly knew I had to undergo emergency surgery. It was shocking. Turns out, my appendix had burst and I was slowly becoming infected. Being told I might die at 12 really was horrifying LOL I remember crying because I was so scared to listen to anyone. Not my mom not the doctors. In the end though, they took it out and I'm perfectly fine now. I'm 27 and to this day I still wonder why my appendix failed on me to begin with. TL;DR BELIEVE YOUR CHILDREN WHEN THEY CRY ABOUT PAIN ;A; It's always worth listening to!

Appendicitis was the worst pain I could’ve ever felt. I wouldn’t wish this pain upon anybody. I delayed medical treatment for four days because I thought I had (Eg. Food poisoning, constipation or the flu), and in that time my appendix perforated leading me to get peritonitis and if I left it maybe a few hours later I could’ve gone sepsis (as I could already feel the effects of it coming on, like shivering and sweating)... I’m very thankful for all the doctors, nurses and surgeons who helped saved my life. As soon as I went under for my operation it was like a sense of relief that I’m going to be better soon and not have the constant thought of dying on my mind. I honestly don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t go forward with that... #appendicitissurvivor 💪🏻

manoj reddy that was the same with me. The pain was very mild as I could still do all my daily activities. I didn’t have any pain in my lower right abdomen though, it was more like agonising cramping and pain up under my ribs. Although people display different symptoms, it’s hard to tell if you have it or not. If you’re genuinely concerned I’d go to the doctors and get checked, if not. Then wait it out a couple days and see if there is any improvements and if that doesn’t improve I’d go to the ER because appendicitis can lead to peritonitis if not treated promptly. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it’s always worth the check! :)

manoj reddy appendicitis can not be seen on the X-ray. They did an ultrasound on me, and had multiple diagnosis’, UTI, Kidney Stones, Gall Stones and Appendicitis. They will do palpitations on your lower right abdomen and if the pain spikes when released it may be a sign of appendicitis. My pain was very mild too to start off with, but over the course of like three days it worsened and I could barely sleep, or sit up without pain. If I were you, I’d get checked. The ER I went to said they get a few patients come through each day with abdominal pain, and of those few, one actually has an issue. Others are just sent home. It’s always worth the check, a diagnosis may not happen, but they may have an idea on what is going on.

I had the surgery and it really isn’t that bad. A couple days of pain but got through the nights with morphine which helped a ton. Just get ready for Bordem and being sick to the smell of your room. (FYI my appendix ruptured)

I had appendicitis when I was 11. The worst symptom I remember is having a horrible stomach ache. Or that’s what I thought it was anyway. I remember staying awake all night because of the pain. Eventually my mom took me to the doctors who said it was some sort of virus. We were driving home and then we got a call from them. “You need to go to the ER.. right now!” I was terrified. Apparently my appendix bursted before surgery so I stayed in the hospital for a lot longer. I got bloodwork done every 3 hours. At least now I’m not scared of needles anymore.

In May last year I was in serious pain for a couple of days, and on the third day the pain moved to the right of the body. I went to the doctor and it was appendicitis. I went to hospital later that day and had surgery to remove it the day after. The surgery recovery was rough as the appendix burst and a form of pneumonia had developed causing difficulties breathing. 4 days later I was able to leave hospital and I had fully recovered about a month and a half after surgery

Hello my name is Rudabe and 2 months ago I went to Ct scan and phisical examination of my apendix I had discomfort in my right abdomen but it was not pain and it come and go in minutes, the doctors said that there is not problem it is just from my overies but somtimes I am feeling pain there after two months of CT scan, I wanted to say I have Anxiety and I am feeling bodly sensations and pain during my panic attacks or Anxiety attacks and mostly pain is hapening during midnight and I don't have any other symptoms somtimes I am feeling upset in my stomake but it is when I am feeling piercing there and starting to panic about my apendix, I am a teneager and apendix operation is common in my age even when the possiblity of getting apendix infaction is 10% I am really scared of my apendix to get rupture and of the operation. What should I do is it real apendix infaction or just panic attack?.

To add to this, the recent research that is referenced found that mammals with an appendix tended to have more lymph tissue in their cecum (part of the large intestine), which is important for the immune system. The researchers also found high concentrations of B and T cells in the appendix; the cells that fight infection! So there may be benefits to having an appendix. However, it's absolutely essential to talk to your doctor if you think you're experiencing appendicitis because appendicitis can be life-threatening. If the appendix needs to come out, then it needs to come out!

Just got this done today, barely leaving the hospital. The pain was HORRIBLE. I was woken with fever and chills,gllad I finally got it done because it was the second time it got this bad. If you have this and have surgery be prepared to be limited in moving around and also be constipated. Buy some suppositories, prune juice, canned soups and crackers. I've just come out from a burst appendix. I went to the doctors and they said it was a water infection, 14 hours later I was in a&e with a burst appendix it was literally that fast. I only started feeling ill the day before. It's been some scary shit!

It is fast! When it happened to me almost a year and a half ago, I went into work on a Thursday feeling fine, two hours later I started to feel uncomfortable but it wasn't bad, and 2 hours after that it hurt to walk. By the time I got home I had a fever. I went to the hospital the next morning and they took it out that Saturday night.

20 years ago I was very sick and went to the doctor who diagnosed me with a viral infection. Next night I also had severe pain in my back. Next day went to the ER and got surgery a few hours later. Turns out it was appendicitis 😬

It depends for everyone, I endure the pain for 2 months and only went to see a doctor when it got really bad. The first time I ever felt the pain (October) I was like "omg I think I’m having an appendicitis", but then I checked online and didn’t really related to any of the symptoms, so I just thought it might just be my period. And for two months I endure the pain. My appendix burst so my body to protect me build a cyst and I felt like I was getting fat and heavier. I was always vomiting, had fevers on & off. And then I went to hospital the day of my 21st birthday (December). I had a machine that was giving me antibiotic which cost a lot of money (turns out the doctor found out after 3 weeks that the antibiotic was not working for me and was actually making me SICK to the point where I could not drink tap water, had to wear a facemask, etc. ‘cause it made my white blood cells drop so low ) plus I had this tube connected to my stomach to get out all of the infection out. For 3 weeks I couldn’t shower normally, my sister had to wash my hair. I’m so blessed that I’m healthy now. I was supposed to get my surgery in April, but corona...

let me say this, i was terrified of having to lose mine and i did in june. you can tell that something is flat out wrong vs a weird pain. it’s a very gut feeling type of pain. i also couldn’t stand up straight either

I had this when I was a kid. My body temperature sky rocketed up to 40 Celsius. I was not really aware of how dangerous this condition is until fairly recently. I'm glad I did not have to go into surgery to treat my Appendicitis but I did have to stay in hospital for 3 days hooked up to all kind of things.

My father has appendicitis. He woke up and was in really bad pain, so we called an ambulance and was taken to the hospital. He’s getting his appendix taken out this afternoon, and he’ll be back home by tomorrow morning. I’m very glad he’s okay, of course, but I’m annoyed that he won’t be with us for most of Christmas morning. Why did it have to happen now?! Update: the appendicitis was a lot worse then we thought. He needs to be on an antibiotic drop for a couple days. Christmas is ruined, but I’m so relieved he’s okay.

I woke up with intense belly pain and thought I might just be hungry, but after I ate the pain didn't go away and slowly I tried pressing on my belly to see where the pain is from and I found it to be coming from the bottom right of my belly(appendix location) then I went to the hospital and had to wait 5 hours just to get a room. The pain went up and down, so I highly considered just leaving but thankfully I got it checked and it was appendicitis so they gave me surgery which you can't even tell because they give you ansthesia and the next thing you know the surgery is over.

I had appendix for years then one day I visited doctor he pressed my right lower stomach with two finger I left pain then he said I have appendix it needs operation but don't worry laparoscopic surgery won't pain. like he said it didn't but it's best to take rest for one week . After that I felt such a great relief it's definitely worth the surgery rather than having it for years or months

just over a month ago i had my appendix taken out and my god everything happened so fast. i went to bed that night feeling normal, woke up 5 hours later with intense stomach pain that latest hours, ended up going to the ER and just 24 hours later I'm being wheeled in for surgery. its scary just how quick something like that can come on.

I was dismissed by three doctors, telling me they did not think I had appendicitis. Turned out, mine was gangrenous and had perforated by the time they got me to surgery. It took my temperature spiking to eventually get them to order an ultrasound.

I am now recovering from having surgery on my appendix and i can say i had no idea it was swollen. I had flu like symptoms which of course had me thinking i had the flu. I checked into the hospital and explained my symptoms they ran test and found nothing for flu nor covid. Right when they were about to discharge me I vomited in the restroom my stomach basically turned into a knot which left questions for the doctor. They ran more test including x-rays and boom there it was. I was immediately admitted into surgery. Only thing I can say that saved me was vomiting and the hospital because they were bout to send me home. People pay attention to your body. I don’t care if its the slightest pain GO GET CHECKED OUT because you never know.

Ive had past episodes where I had these symptoms but assumed I had a stomach flu but these symptoms kept coming back every so often. Recently the dull pain in my stomach just hurt so bad I could not tolerate it so i finally went to a doctor. My appendix ruptured and created an abscess I had a tube attached to me for almost two weeks draining the infectious fluid. Now I am patiently waiting for my surgery to remove my appendix which at this point I assume is torn apart. Please if you feel too much pain speak up.

I had an acute appendicitis in May of 2020 that was close to rupturing. I was 24 at the time and didn't realise you could have it at an older age. Keyhole surgery, and I was fine just a week or so later. I say this to everyone who is worried about having a appendicitis trust me when that pain hits its acute and nothing will make it go away till it's removed.

@Medical Centric I am perfectly fine. It's very unpleasant, but with keyhole surgery, it's a very common and easy fix. With a very fast recovery post op.

@lucathespitzzzz2312 Hi, it began as a dull pain behind my belly button. This got gradually worse until the only position I could be in was on my hands and knees in the fetal position. Eventually, the pain radiated towards my lower right abdomen. That's when I went to the accident and emergency room. When they had me my first dose of IV paracetamol, the relief was intense and amazing. By this point, it was 6am, and I'd not slept in a good 27 hours. I woke up when the doctor came to tell me it was time to go for my surgery. Trust me, if you have it, you'll know it's the most pain I've ever experienced, and I've dislocated my shoulder twice.
