Thanks for making this video. I've tried to explain this to people so many times and they are always incredulous but now I can show them your video. Brilliant.

Scott, I know that clouds only form when water vapor has particles in the air to condense onto; is it the same with the condensed water coming out of your flask here? If you conducted this experiment in a room without any air-borne impurities, would you need to apply the flame underneath the loop, or would it come out as invisible vapor from the start? Thanks so much!

So it's condensation?

Would be interesting to know the ambient temperature of the clear steam coming out of the nozzle, vs the temperature of the “cooled steam” that is visible due to the presence of water vapor in the steam. Now I more fully understand the true danger of high pressure steam, like that used in lower Manhattan (NYC), wherein there is industrial-scale steam utilities that ConEdison operates, that uses high-pressure steam to provide heat to large tracts of urban buildings.

"it's not steam" "the boiling water is producing steam" WHAT IS IT REALLY?!
@APphyzicks3 жыл бұрын
The boiling water produces steam. When I say "it's not steam" I'm referring to the cloud. That's liquid water that comes from the steam produced condensing into tiny droplets of liquid. Both steam and liquid droplets are emerging from the tube so sometimes the liquid and gas terms seem to overlap.

When the whole restroom was still steamy i saw the water droplets with a flashlight and recorded it
