Not long after I got this one uploaded, I learned more about why Appius Claudius Pulcher came into conflict with the Senate over his triumph in 143. He apparently exceeded his mandate and employed aggression against the Salassi without clear orders from the Senate. It would appear that the Senate was willing to accept his territorial gains and did not wish to punish him, but still wanted to make sure that he understood their disapproval.

Fascinating. I would be curious as to what the political dynamics was like within the senate that allowed them to aggressively guard the power of their mandates and quell successful commander's excessive prerogative. One would presume Pulcher had plenty of allies within the senate.

Man I've waited so long to find this kind of content, please keep it up! On a side note, I hope one day you do a tier list with the Roman generals during Caesar's Civil War.

Bit surprised you haven't covered Marius or Sulla yet. Looking forward to it!

Eventually. I am going to work on the Gracchi first, but I am going to try to illuminate some more of the side characters before talking about them. I will do the same for Marius, Sulla, and the other big name Romans I have not yet discussed.

He is still a little too early to technically qualify as a popularis. It is really only after Sulla's dictatorship that the populares and optimates emerge as cohesive (by Roman standards) political groupings.

He probably was in favor of a more modest reform which is why he did not nuke the commission but also wasn’t doing it at the rate of a true believer like Gauss Grachus or Carbo

It depends on how versatile and variable you think that the 'c' in Latin was.
