This is one of my favourite parts of the movie. After the thrill of watching him save the plane, I love that they took the time out to show how people react to Superman, how beloved he is to the people. And it's not just wasted screen time - establishing that people care about him now is what makes you feel it when he (all but) sacrifices himself for them at the end of the movie. Contrast that with the new Supes v Batman, where we get a montage of Superman saving people whilst he looks miserable, as if it's some great chore, and voiceovers wonder whether his saving people is a good thing or not - all whilst mournful music plays.

Graham Kennedy It's how come my girlfriend loves Superman from the Supergirl tv series. Always upbeat and not broading like in BvS. Batman Begins and Superman Returns should’ve started the DC Cinematic Universe. Warner Brothers made a mistake not combining the two worlds together. Both movies were one year apart from each other. Both movies were fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with fans and critics. Both movies looked and felt like they could’ve been in the same universe. Both movies brought the two most popular superheroes back on the big screen after a long hiatus. Superman Returns referenced Gotham City. Not to mention, it grossed more money at the box office than Batman Begins whose sequels went on to hit the one billion dollar mark. I Am Legend teased a crossover between them for May 2010. The billboard in Times Square had Bale’s Batman logo and Routh’s Superman logo merged together.

don fan yeah I get it. Infact overall I liked MoS, except for the finale, not coherent in my opinion with the idea of a realistic take on the superhero - Supes would have realistically brought the fight away from the city. I think that MoS has many moments of true poetry - for example the relation with the earth father, or the astonishing montage. My only hope is that, in the future, DC gives Supes more moments to shine and being self-confident, like he deserves, without being forced to carry on his shoulders all the pain in the world, like a sort of Jesus. I mean something similar to the scene up above, for instance. Supes is an example, his metaphore is the Sun, and the sun, simply, shines and gives hope to all of us.

This is the perfect introduction to Superman. Applause, cheering, kids looking up to him, the Daily Planet discussing story ideas. Synder ruined everything.
@johnstavropoulos70494 жыл бұрын
No, Synder ruined nothing. Superman Returns and Man of Steel operated on completely different circumstances. This movie had a firmly established Superman returning after a period of absence, so naturally after pulling a spectacular rescue like that after a 5 year absence, naturally the people would be happy to see him again. Man of Steel had a Superman beginning his career, people didn't know what to make of him. Plus, it didn't help that Earth's first real introduction to visitors from Krypton wanted to destroy humanity and remold the Earth into New Krypton, so naturally they had to approach Superman with scepticism on whether or not he stands with humanity. In the end he chose Earth over Krypton and earned his reputation as Earth's greatest protector...but not without further controversy and challenges to come. Both of these movies have Superman operating under completely different circumstances and should not be so unfairly compared.
@mayanksharma21204 жыл бұрын
@@johnstavropoulos7049 I get Synder's approach. But we never got the awe-struck moment with his Superman. BvS didn't do it. JL was a nightmare. And even just going by the fact that Returns is an actual return v/s MoS being an introduction, he never had a 'save the day' moment. It is not the applause specifically when I watch this scene in Returns, I saw a safe Metropolis with Superman in it. MoS leaves the 'hope' aspect, right at the very end - in front of the military personnel instead of citizens of Metropolis. Synder had a great vision but executed it poorly. Whether it is WB's interference or him just being a bad storyteller (look at his other movies - he has great visuals no doubt) but Superman's death in BvS had NO impact on me, because he did not have an arc. So MoS was off to a bad start to a Superman series/trilogy regardless. So as a standalone movie or an 'introduction', MoS accomplishes nothing for Superman apart from building a broken (initial) cinematic universe.
@johnstavropoulos70494 жыл бұрын
@@mayanksharma2120 I understand how you feel. I loved Man of Steel, but I always felt like there was something missing, the movie felt incomplete, like there were scenes that should have been included, but got cut for some reason. Since we are getting the Synder Cut of Justice League, how about an extended cut of Man of Steel next? Man of Steel had tons of "save the day" moments, but I think the reason some people think that the movie didn't have any is that there was no significant rescue sequence* (like the helicopter scene in the first movie or the airplane scene in Returns) the rescues happened so fast you didn't see them, and that it was trying to make up for the serious lack of supervillain fights in the previous films. Synder Superman actually has an arc which was made in the form of a question. In Man of Steel it was: will Superman stand with humanity? In BvS it was: will humanity stand with Superman? Great ideas that could have done better, but also could have done worse. They should just have been a bit clearer. I think that before BvS we should have gotten a proper Man of Steel 2, Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, BvS, and then saved Death of Superman as it's own separate movie. Personally I was just happy to see it play out on film and the fact we finally got a Superman villain other than Luthor and Zod in the movies. Just my opinion. * You could count the oil rig rescue scene, which Superman accomplishes without a shirt, much less his super suit.

Bear in mind that this is only five years after 9/11 - which is canon to the DCverse - and I challenge you not to tear up a little at the general reaction of sheer unbridled joy and relief (both on screen and in the cinema)...

I don't care what anyone says, this is the best superman movie of the 2000s. Routh captured everything that made Reeves' Superman so great and wholesome and still made it his own. Great movie.

While the implication is that the entirety of Metropolis was giving the Man of Steel a standing ovation, one must take into account all the people watching the game elsewhere or watching the news in other places so chances are that a decent percentage of the USA was going nuts as well
