My wife is from Guatemala and she was a high school graduate with a year of college education when she came to the US at the age of sixteen. As a first grade student, she was called to the principal's office to read the newspaper to demonstrate to the parents of a fourth grade child that their child was way behind in her education. I married a genius and I am blessed to have the benefit of her intelligence and cursed by never being able to surprise her. She seems to know what I am thinking almost before I do.

It's not at all fun or satisfying to listen to him insult her over and over with such venom while she wastes her time trying to reason with him. It's particularly stupid when the insults are like 'you're like some slime stuck to my boot, you disgust me and I hope you get burned at the stake' and the protagonist says something like don't you care that youre hurting my feelings?' You punched me in the face, did you know that really hurt my face? You stole my life savings, you didn't even ask permission! You are laughing so hard at me crying after you murdered my baby, don't you know that hurt my feelings? So mean! Irl nobody would be entertaining any of this. He'd be booted before he can finish saying dropout because a real person would know there's no chance of working with him
