Thank you, this was very clear to follow. I successfully replaced my 6?-year-old Time Capsule’s 3 TB default HDD (Seagate) with an 8 TB (Seagate Ironwolf). Before doing all the work of installing the HDD, I verified it was functional by mounting it and formatting it in Disk Utility, though Airport Utility then wanted to re-format it anyway. A few differences: 1) All 3 cables were routed beneath the metal plate on my unit, not above as in the video. 2) The two black rubber pads you can see at 2:54 pulled out still attached to the HDD when I removed it. This turned out to be a good thing, since the “foot” (non-connector end) of the 8 TB lacked some cutouts in the body that the 3 TB had, requiring me to perform some box-cutter surgery on the rubber pads to allow the new HDD to sit snugly on the pads. Then I re-positioned the modified pads inside the Time Capsule casing, before sliding the HDD in. 3) The gasket then also required a bit of surgery to match the connector-end of the new HDD. 4) 3 or 4 of the 11 snap-in areas on the bottom plate (visible at 0:58 ) were a less robust design on my unit, and wound up breaking when I opened it up. This had no effect upon snapping it back in place, and the base is as solidly attached as before. But it’s something to keep in mind-take this step slowly.

***BEWARE*** The video ends with "just reverse what you did for removal..." and the new drive slides right in. MAKE SURE your replacement drive is EXACTLY the same size/shape/form as the original drive. My new drive did not have the same end cut-outs in the rubber bumpers so an Exacto knife came in to play to carve out enough room. OP poster also did not mention his "trick for reattaching the two tiny connectors. OP, next time, continue the video to completion, please.

I recently tore apart my CCTV NVR to perform a HD update. I added two (2) six (6) TB drives from Seagate. I removed the single six (6) TB from the NVR, a WD Purple, which has a little less than one-year of use, and had been planning on installing it in either one of my AirPort Extreme's or replacing the two (2) TB drive in my Time Capsule. Thanks for the break/down video on the TC -- have you, or anybody herein, ever added a HD inside of the AirPort Extreme or used the WD six (6) TB drive in the Time Capsule or an Extreme? TY in advance for your time and feedback.

Just did this, added one of those western digital UltraStar 16 TB helium filled data center drives, dedicated 4 TB for backups and created 2 partitions for movies and other multimedia stuff. The only major issue is that those little tiny connectors are a bitch to put back in, no problem to take out, putting them back in with my diabetic eyes and fat fingers is a big issue.
@GiuseppeM Жыл бұрын
Yes they’re really small but fit perfectly in their socket so there is no play at all, one of those orange tools is a small plastic tweezer that can help place it in place

If you dont clean and lubricate the fan, you are putting a new drive in a case that is dirty and your chances of this working for any length of time are not good. Clean and lubricate the fan. Gt all the dust out of the case. There is another video on youtube of someone doing the complete job.
