A lot of people are disassembling those nowadays in order to clean up the fan - well, that’s not enough actually to prevent it from overheating especially on hot summer days. I had to also replace the heatpads on mine under the radiators on the opposite side from the fan. The heatpads on mine looked awful with some fat-like liquid around them, so I bought a new pad, cut it to fit and so far so good - works like new. P.S.: pads seem to be about 2mm thick

It looks like this fixed my problem. (Except my exterior yellow/green indicator light isn't working so I must not have attached one of those tiny plugs right at the very end.) I was doing this to a Airport Extreme instead of a Time Capsule, but it worked pretty much the same without the hard drive in the middle. My two notes: 1) I was reading the comments here and had a hard time figuring out what "non-mineral machine oil" was (I don't think WD-40 is the right thing to use) but I think the "3-in-1 oil" in the USA is the appropriate thing, which is equivalent to "sewing machine spindle oil". 2) the tabs that hold the casing around the fan were incredibly delicate and I actually broke 3 of them getting it open. (They were BRITTLE!) But after cleaning and lubricating the fan, the case seemed to snap back well enough. Just be careful and be warned.

Thanks a lot. You make it look easy, especially removing those really small cable connectors. Advice for other, just be gentle and have patience.

This worked to clean my 8-year-old Airport One major caution...be very careful with the small, two-pin connector for the reset button. Instead of trying to disconnect it from its mating board connector, much better to simply slide the button assembly out of its position in the plastic tower housing and not attempt to unplug it. Trying to unplug it broke the one I was working on and fixing it is a nightmare, if not impossible. Also, the video instructions to "flip" the inner frame's upper mounting screws (silver, wide-head) are unclear. For these, they simply need to be unscrewed several turns CCW and are retained in place by springs. Once the screws are loose, pinch the inner frame structure towards the middle hard drive mounting gap to make sliding it out very easy.

Just did mine, if you watch closely the grease has become hard and brown on the axis of the fan making it in need of extra power to turn when required, clean it with alcohol and put drop or two of non mineral machine oil on it. Voila!

Você tinha que lubrificar não apenas o eixo do motor, mas onde o eixo entra. E limpar TUDO por dentro, pois toda a poeira que você deixou vai voltar para o ventilador.

Thanks for this. I had to do this twice and still the fan seizes up within a matter of minutes, so I will have to do it a third time once the new fan arrives. I was also confused by your instruction to "flip" the bottom screws, but figured it out. Otherwise, I had no problems following your instructions successfully.

what did he mean by "flip" the bottom screws? I'm at that part now and although I seem to have unscrewed them, they don't come off?

can airport time capsule use ssd?
@getinsidelife3 жыл бұрын
SATA is SATA, yes.
@jarochoking2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you shouldn’t do it for the speed. The bottleneck will be your Ethernet connection. If you do it, you should do it because of the durability of the SSD. I think it will be cheaper to buy a second hand TC and daisy chain the devices. Also saves you a lot of work regarding taking our the hdd and installing the ssd.
