Why would you need this CarPlay & Android Auto module box?

hi i have a 2012 volvo s60 and my infotainment system has been spamming out. question 1 do you think it will fix the spasming problem (apparently its a very common problem with p3 generation) and question 2 in the link it says for 2015 and up but your video says 2011 and up so is it compatible with my year?

Can I enter address or change Spotify songs directly from the phone while using the CarPlay app? Or does it need to happen through the regular control?
