Excellent tutorial video. Congrats! Maybe two things you could emphasize also: a) don't forget to replug the fiber cable (if you have any) from the original to the Joyeauto harness and b) definitely look for a fuse socket that switches with the ignition if you don't want to ruin your car battery. :-)

I just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU and SERIOUSLY WELL DONE for taking the time and effort to produce this video!! You are a HERO!! Having watched this I was able to complete my install in a little over 2hrs and without a need to even consult the very minimalistic and poorly worded instructions / diagram that it came with. As another commenter has suggested, the only thing to add would be that of ensuring to pick an appropriate Fuse Port for the power. I initially used one in Row A which I then realised was continuous power (for the alarm, immobiliser etc) and would not only draw unnecessarily on the battery when parked, but also meant that the WiFi on the JoyeAuto wasn't working and I couldn't get it to pair with my phone as a result (maybe a low voltage issue...?? not sure). Anyway, I then moved it to a free Fuse Port in Row C and it worked straight away and only now has power on ignition as well. Lastly I cut my hands to bits and sweated hard over about 45 mins to feed the USB cable around the back of (and into) the glovebox...not fun at all but sits neatly out of the way in there now (personal preference). I also cable-tied / zip-tied the excess cable lengths together and then tied these up behind the steering dash...I did the same with the JoyeAuto control box too...just keeps them neatly out of sight and avoids any risk of them slipping / dropping down into the footwell and fouling the pedals while you're driving (that wouldn't be ideal!!). Anyway...back to my original reason for commenting...thank you so much, you've been an absolute saviour with this video!!

This video was so helpful during my install. Huge, this is the best apple car play video. in his 6 month review he also notes that if you have the Bose system you have to unplug the optic cables from the Porsche Harness and put then into the Joyeauto harness because this type of cable can't be extended. Real pain. It took my friend and I forever to figure out why we weren't getting audio. Joyeauto now includes 2 sets of extenders so people with the XM Radio can secure it properly. Another tip: get some felt tape to put between the XM board and the Joyeauto board that goes in the PCM.

Dude!!! I just installed mine. Took an hour... super easy after watching the video. The instructions and another video mentioned removing the fiber optic cable and plugging it directly into the unit. I don’t know if you mentioned it. I also plugged a lighting cable into the included usb cable and routed it behind the unit and have it exiting under the glove box and hid underneath the right side console trim and into the arm rear. I also put the mic just above the steering wheel. NO VISIBLE WIRES. Thank you!

Just want to echo George P's thought below. Got my JoyeAuto unit a couple weeks ago and got around to installing it today. This video was fantastic, took me maybe 3 hours and I was going slow. Perfect on the first try, except I initially didn't have sound until I realized I needed to set the input to AUX. LOL. Thank you so much for making this great tutorial! EDIT--one lesson learned was that I decided to re-mount the JoyeAuto processing box in the upper left area of the footwell just beyond the fuse box. I found that the wires were getting caught in the, I don't know what to call it--the pivot point of the steering column. This way it's completely out of the way of the steering column.

Hello again. I finally had a few hours to myself and tackled this job on my 958.1 GTS with PCM 31. THANK YOU for your video. I only had a couple of small confusing moments and happy to report that both the wired and wireless Carplay function is working as advertised. Microphone routed to panel by driver right knee and carplay module tucked away behind and below PCM location in cayenne. HAppy to answer any questions anyone has as it is all fresh in my mind.

James you are a champion! As Ive always hated the ‘70s PCM in my Macan Turbo I was on the look out for a solution to get CarPlay on it. I watched your video and thought installing it myself it was out of my league. So I got a mobile auto electrician out to do it. I sent him your video and while he said he cant guarantee it will work because “these add-ons usually don’t work as advertised” That was my first red flag right there. When he came out to install the Joyeauto I’d purchased he spent more time on the phone sorting out other worker’s problems than on my car. After several hours he said the video wont work (sound familiar?) and it must be faulty and I should send it back. He put the PCM back in as before and was out of there. So, I thought, do I get someone else in or have a crack myself. I watched your video a few more times and through, why not give it a go! Slowly and watching your video on the iPad every step of the way (if you see a lot of downloads from Sydney, Australia that would be me ) I hooked it up and CarPlay popped up on the screen - Oh what a feeling!! But wait, Hold on, no sound. I messaged Ivan at Joyeauto (we already had a chat open for several questions previously) and we discovered I needed to take the fiber optic cable (orange one) from one 48pin plug to the other. Hey presto it works!! Mate, I couldn’t have done this without you. Love your channel keep giving us that great content Thanks Again David

Mr Auto, Sir (honorific is well deserved) - 1) Found something on Rennlist (tm?) that referred to swapping 2 fiber optic cables from OEM harness to new input to PCM. After changing this, input selection and sound works. 2) Yes power to Joyauto unit live, using empty space in row D (D9?). Audio from iPhone plays thru stereo via USB connection to JoyeAuto. Video via USB or Wifi/Bluetooth not yet functional. Getting closer!
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur 5 жыл бұрын
Nice one!!! Ok, the first part rings a bell. There is a fiber optic cable (a black one I think) that is plugged into the large OEM multi-pin wiring harness that needs to be pulled out and plugged directly into the back of the new Joyeauto extension multi-pin wiring harness. In my video there is a moment towards the end where I show where I got stuck. This was part of that issue. The other issue was that those plugs into the big black multi-pin wiring harness weren’t “clicked” in all the way. They needed a really forceful show to connect up. Once they were together properly I suddenly got the video input working.

This tutorial made this install fast and easy. I watched it twice before starting and was able to go through the entire process without having to stop. Thanks for a great and useful video. I do need to check that my fuse is switched, but other than that, all works fine. I even installed the backup camera at the same time. That added many more hours to the project. I have a Boxster, so Auto Amateur's video on this did not exactly help with the wire run, but they did help with the bumper removal which was less daunting that I had expected. Thanks!

Such an awesome video, thanks for taking the time and detail to do it right! I installed this on my 2011 Cayenne S, and it is so great! Absolutely, perfect and really updates the tired PCM-I don't look at my phone anymore while driving, too. I wouldn't have trusted this product from China, and the detailed install, if not for this video. I am amazed not a wire was needed to be stripped, spliced, or crimped. Everything falls into place perfectly. This is even better than most factory installed CarPlay as it links wirelessly upon start up. Ultimately, it is not as hard as it looks-it is worth it! A few notes/speedbumps from my install: My problem was video would show after pressing NAVI, but no sound. 1.This overall theory needs to be stressed: the sound from CarPlay module comes through the standard PCM AUX input, and you have to press that prior to the NAVI button, which activates CarPlay on the screen. If you don't press AUX first, it will play whatever audio you are on, while showing CarPlay. Just leave your source on AUX and your car will seamlessly go to CarPlay every time automatically on startup. I had disabled and hid the AUX button, previously, since I never used this older technology, instead using AUX BT (which I now disable/hide in favor for the JoyeAuto CarPlay). I could not find a way to unhide the AUX input and ultimately had to do a PCM reset, to have it show up again. After performing this reset, it appears and you can then select it, and have sound and full functionality. Perform a PCM handover (also known as a PCM hard reset): Press and hold the Info button for approximately 10 seconds until the PCM reboots. Immediately select the following from the CAR>>OPTION>>Set PCM System>>Reset PCM>>Vehicle Handover>>Yes>>Yes Press and hold the Info button for approximately 10 seconds until the PCM reboots. 2. JoyeAuto is now including 6 screw mounts (screw 2 together (x3) for a tall support) for the circuit board install, so it sits higher and perfectly above the existing boards. 3. Turn off AUX/BT and just commit to using CarPlay fully. This reduces connectivity and calling issues, and just simplifies everything. Bottom line, you won't need the old PCM interface anymore. 4. Fuse board spot for Cayenne, is on the left side of the driver side dashboard, where the dash faces the door. Pop off this panel and plug in fuse into a vacant spot that turns on and off with the key in and out of the ignition. 5. Make sure to read and follow comments/tips from Fastpitch Net, very helpful must read notes! 6. SAT still works as a source in case you ever want to go back and use Sirius XM like normal, however, there is a CarPlay app for that, so you can just stay there and use that instead. 7. Make sure to go into settings and have the microphone do an automatic adjustment. My callers were getting echo when talking handsfree, and this setting auto adjustment instantly fixed it. Feel free to ask any questions!
@obwonknobe
@obwonknobe Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mr Largo, Can I ask how you do #7? Where do you go into settings to have the "microphone do an automatic adjustment"? My voice quality to outside callers is terrible and distant. This is the first I have seen of this suggestion. Maybe I just missed the setting. Is this on the "settings" icon on the CarPlay screen (displayed on the cars PCM display)? Wondering if my version is missing that option on the Joyeauto installation.

I ordered the Joyeauto kit off of aliexpress on 4/17, received it 4/24 (very quick) and installed it today (4/25). Thanks a lot for the time in making the install video. Very helpful. I had a couple of “uh-oh” moments. I needed to transfer the fiber optic cable from the OEM 48 pin connector to the new one. I had a really hard time putting the joyeauto connector box under the steering wheel. I found an area further back, above the pedals. I secured it with zip ties so it wouldn’t interfere with driving should it get loose. I also had an “oh-s**t” moment when the video cable came off of the motherboard. The female part of the plug that is supposed to be fixed to the board came off. I was able to reconnect it, but that means it’s not as secure as it should be. I also ended up getting a small “nick” on my screen. Bummer, but oh well. I know you said to be careful, but apparently I wasn’t careful enough. I would suggest to others that they tape some cardboard over the screen while work is being performed. After the install I did notice my one touch up/down on my windows didn’t work anymore. It started working again, but my passenger window still doesn’t “one touch”. I’m hoping it resets/fixes it self. (My car is a 2015 991 S cabriolet). I’m looking at adding another mod to lower/raise the roof with the remote. Just waiting for my Smart Top (from mods4cars) to arrive. Oh, you also said you didn’t receive enough screws. The store I ordered my kit from said that if you have XM you should ask for extra screws. I have XM, so I asked for extra screws and I received them. They gave me six. However I was only able to use 4 because of interference with existing components. I also found out that some of the ribbon tape connections weren’t properly made. Once I reconnected them it worked.

Around 22:00 in, before you reassemble the PCM I see your boards are loose. I feel that's what happened when mine was done and I have a vibration that happens around 70MPH that sounds like it's coming from the inside of the unit. I'm about to take mine apart to try and track it down... Great video!
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks John!! Yes, I would need another couple of the copper screw extenders to secure the board on the other side. That could be it. However, with the PCM unit reassembled, it’s nicely compacted together by the ribbon cables. I would be surprised if there is any wiggle room. Worth a look though!!

@@AutoAmateur It's an interesting vibration that only happens around 70-74mph, and I'm not 100% sure it is inside the unit, but that's where it appears to come from, and it does sound like something solid is loose and vibrating against the metal housing. I didn't do my install and don't actually know where they put the CarPlay module - that could be the vibration in my case as well. You're right though, there are very few videos that show how to do the install and yours is the best. I might have attempted myself had your video been around. Update: Local car stereo shop quoted me 4 to 6 hours to install the rear camera option on the Joy Auto mod at $150 per hour. So I studied several more videos and stuck my borescope camera into various nooks and crannies. I decided I could do it for less t6han $600. Took off the bumper and ran my wires around the RIGHT side of the car went behind the taillight. and into the rubber seals being careful to keep the wires clear of convertible top guillotines. then i tested the camera and Oh Joy! it works great. even hast the little car silhouette when you get close to an immoveable object. Went to my local market to get some essential items (butter and Glenlivet) and when I got back to the car I noticed the rear windows were still down with the top up. I hadn't noticed when i parked and put the top up, but the front windows didn't come up when the top reached full lock but came up with the switches. So happy with Carplay mod and rear camera but cant live with back windows down. What did I do wrong.BTW, I am going to stow the JA box to the passenger side beneath the kick panel were you access the cabin air filter.

Once you get the JoyeAuto unit installed (2 hour job if you’ve done it before), it shouldn’t take more than 3 hours to do the back-up camera. 4 to 6 hours sounds a shop that doesn’t know what they’re doing.

I am impressed. I replaced the head unit on a 997 and that drove me mad, so to see how you did this has inspired me to maybe do the same on my 991. Over in the UK for my 997 at least the connectors were different for a uk example to the euro style, so I am guessing you buy only from suppliers in your country to get it right. May sound obvious but over here in Europe it’s easy to get items shipped from the continent to maybe save on price.

I have looked and looked to find a video like this and I must thank you for your very detailed video. Although mine is Android+997.2, I don't think it would be much different. Still looking pretty daunting job to tackle on but at least now I know what it involves in. By the way you put the JoyeAuto unit under the steering column but I was wondering if you held it in place with anything such as ziptie, double sided tape and so on. The space looked like it's a pretty tight fit and the unit wouldn't come out of that spot easily but I wouldn't like it if it rattles when I drive only because I didn't hold it in place with some sort of fastening method. 2 constructive criticisms are that your background musics are very cheesy (I respect your taste though) that I am not sure if they suit to these type of Porsche videos and that you put reverse rolling /dissolving effects on the captions that show the first sentence the last. It makes the viewers not able to see the whole captions clearly. No intentions to insult you in any way but just my thoughts. Thank you very much again for your helpful videos.

For me, I'm able to store the device under my steering column, in the space between the trim and the column but that's only because I have the steering wheel all the way out and up, to accommodate my height. Most people can't use that space and therefore secure the box and the cables to the upper left side of the driver's footwell. That's a great observation!

Thanks so much! Installing the back-up cameras physically is quite a tricky job to do alone, but once you have the wires inside the cabin it's super easy to plug them into the AppleCar Play JoyeAuto device and have them appear on the screen. The challenge with the cameras is removing the front and rear bumpers and then snaking the wiring inside the cabin and then figuring out the best way to give them both power. I believe the rear camera needs to tap into your rear brake lights and the front camera can wire directly into your fuse box. A friend of mine just attempted this job (completed it successfully) and it took him all weekend. If I can find that much free time, I'm quite tempted to try it out. If nothing else, it will make for a great video! :-)

Hi there! I have encountered this issue with one or two installs. I think it comes down to a combination of the quality of the microphone and how securely it's mounted. For my own 911, I found that mounting the microphone inside the steering wheel column, next to the factory microphone, has worked very well for me. I don't seem to have any issues with echos or voice quality. A simple solution might be to invest in a better microphone to be honest. You can pick up a decent quality microphone from Amazon for anywhere between $10 to $15. It's just a simple plug and plug microphone.

Thanks so much Joeri! Not including the time spent with the cameras and filming the whole thing, I would say the job will take anyone 2 hours. The only reason it would take longer is if you find the video or audio doesn't function after you've put everything back together. Hey Wilbert! For the board, you can place the board on top of the XM board and only fix two of the three screws down if necessary. Just put the third one in loosely. Once the pcm unit is back together it all sits together fine. For the fiber optic wires, you need to use a small flat head screwdriver to depress the small black retaining clip on the side. The black plug with the two wires comes out in one piece.
