Bad thing is that Premium connectivity is not working in a car when car is connected to this box (kit)... :( So in case you want to watch Netflix/KZbin you have to disconnect car from a box or to turn the box off completely.

Great video - thanks. I have an issue that seems to be a known bug (and been present for the near 3 years I have had the model 3) whereby the WIFI endlessly turns itself off, it drives me insane. I have raised tickets and they just close them. I am assuming as this is relying on WIFI being turned on to connect to your phone hotspot that the experience will end up being frustrating if every time I want to use it, I have to start by turning the WIFI on (yes, I have the setting enabled for stay connected, it isn't when going into drive it turns off, every time I get in the car, WIFI is disabled) and sometimes it will also turn off in the middle of a drive)

I'm afraid you probably will find it frustrating, as the wifi connection is the crux of its functionality. Sorry, buddy!

That’s true. The box used that connection initially and then just connects to the phone via Bluetooth and the car via WiFi after that point.

@@jaackr1 Hey. It uses the phone’s SIM, as CarPlay essentially just mirrors the phone anyway.

Good question - you’d have to ask Carlinkit. Mine didn’t have an additional space for one, BUT the instructions also covered a version which did, so the odds are good.

If it is the Wifi which is disconnecting then that is very odd, as the car should auto connect if the option is ticked. If it is bluetooth, again this should be automatic so, without further information, I'm not sure how to help. I suggest you send a detailed outline of your challenge to the manufacturers and I'm sure they'll try and help.

So, is the Tesla going to use the phone data for everything? I would still like to listen to my tesla music and I'm assuming that I'll use my phone data and not my connect tesla plan????

It’s a good question. If you’re listening to music via the phone rather than the car then I guess it’ll be on your phone data.

That's fair - I did face some unforeseen challenges but the positive is that you won't have to, thanks to my experience. The reception strength challenge was just during set up and I've not had any problems since. It is also definitely most straightforward when away from your home WiFi, as the car still wants to connect to that, which is important for software updates but not for this installation. I may do a follow up if I think it warrants it but thanks for watching and your feedback.

Great review thanks. I purchased from your link for android auto. It's all working except for calls though. Just cannot get the calls to work, the sounf mostly come out of the phone speaker. Once it came through the tesla speakers but the was a terrible echo for the caller. Anyone else have this problem? I'm using Samsung S23

@@patagonia2It isn’t quite as fast, but the delay is minimal and, having used CarPlay in a number of cars, they’re all a little slower than just using Google maps directly. It certainly won’t cause you any problems.

How does it work for daily use? Now that its setup, is using it as simple as getting in your car and opening the web browser? Are there additional steps you have to do to use it every time (start the phone hotspot, disconnect from home wifi before driving away, etc)? Im hoping to find a solution that is as seamless as possible.

No, you literally just get in and open the browser. I do need to wait until I’m away from the house, so the car doesn’t connect to the home WiFi over the car play box WiFi, but, as soon as I drive away, it moves to the box and works. It’s pretty effortless, once you’re set up. 👍🏼

If I have that unchecked it turns all wifi off in drive, so I have to turn wifi back on to connect to any wi-fi while driving. If I have the box checked then the Tesla won't stop trying to connect to my home wifi until I'm many miles and like 10 minutes from my house, and during that part of the drive I have no data connection at all (it doesn't revert to cellular data).

No, the car automatically connects to the box via WiFi and the phone automatically connects to the box and the car via Bluetooth. All you need to do is open the Tesla browser and you’re done.
