TV enthusiasts would buy this in a heartbeat if Apple extended the ability of the current Apple TV box to calibrate the colors on their screen using just an iPhone’s front camera. No longer would they have to pay hundreds of dollars for a professional to do the calibration. As long as it has a nice QD-OLED screen and had Sony-quality processing, people wouldn’t even care about the Apple tax.

@@papervwsThey easily can make it as fast, single core-wise, because they have exactly the same P-cores, E-cores, and GPU cores. The only difference is how many and how high they clock it. The A18 Pro is already more powerful than a PS5, so imagine how good an A19 Pro will be on the new N3P process. Throwing in an AV-1, H.265/H.264, and VP9 media engine would make for a killer processor.

An Apple TV screen would probably a bad deal and possibly even worse than their monitors. TVs are a highly competitive market, in which the budget needs to go mostly into the panel. Integrated sound, software and especially compute are very bad on high end OLEDs, because they want to make the best panels for as little as possible. Apple is not a hardware manufacturer, but a hardware designer. This way, they would just buy a good panel, design a TV around it by integrating the Apple TV and sell it for a ridiculously higher price so they can have their typical margin and enough budget to buy the other expensive components. Then they would just let it rott in their lineup, because they don’t have the right team structure to upgrade unimportant products often enough, which is the same reason why the Studio Display and Pro Display XDR are still the same. TVs are non-professional devices so I don’t see the reason to pay around 500-1000$ more than average on a setup that just saves me a small box. But I indeed see the argument that Apple already sells accessories (like the named monitors) with horrible value and people still seem to buy it, so maybe they should just give it a try.

If they did make a TV, it would likely be super expensive to have decent margins. Hopefully, it would also have some USB-C ports in addition to the HDMI ports. Also, that HomePod is not going to be able to project sound well with all the plants in front of it.

The problem is price - for Apple to sell a 65" TV with the display technology of the current M4 iPad Pro with the nano-texture glass it would probably cost $8k-$10k, as they now charge $1k for the 11" iPad, and that's the starting price. It certainly would look a lot better than current TVs, but at that price I highly doubt they would move enough of them to make the effort worthwhile.

3M Tape Double sided tape your AppleTv to the back of your TV. Counter space saved. I taped mine to the back of my TV stand. Makes it easy to access and only need to run the hdmi up to my wall mounted Tv.

I'm gonna take that quote from Jurassic Park, but say it in reverse: You are so preoccupied with whether or not Apple SHOULD make a TV, that you didn't stop to think whether or not they actually CAN make it... And honestly, I think the answer is no. At least not a good one. That is the very reason they outsource the fabrication of the screens in their devices to third-parties, like LG and Samsung.

And don't get me started on how bad the OLED screens in many of the new iPhones 16 Pro Max are, mine included. It came with a yellowish tint and very low max brightness out of the box (yes, even with True Tone and Night Shift turned off). I was hoping that it was a software problem and that iOS 18.1 would fix it (just like iOS 17.1 fixed the overheating of my iPhone 15 Pro Max a year prior), so I waited for that to come out... But no, it didn't fix it. I took the thing to the Apple Store, but it had already been more than a month since I had purchased it, so I couldn't return it. Instead, they replaced the screen with a new one. Needless to say, the new screen does look better, but it still has a slight yellow tint to it, like half of the new phones in display at the store. Apparently that's just how the iPhone OLED screens manufactured by LG look like, while the ones made by Samsung have the regular blueish tones of all the other Apple products... Apple sucks at screens and it shows.

I’ve been saying it for years, Apple needs to start selling actual TVs, the TV market is horrible to choose an actual good TV for the price. There’s too many options and little features and panel types, etc. And with Apple’s track record I trust them to make a quality TV with proper color grading and a fast snappy UI. I’d 100% buy that.

I love my Apple ecosystem and have an Apple TV. TBH though I regret getting an Apple TV and wish I instead got a Roku tv directly from Roku with it built in. They have amazing specs and their software is very clean and smooth just the way I like it. Google tv and fire stick is yuck. Apple TV is nice but like Drew said I always have to mess with the inputs and don’t like having to cart 2 remotes around
