Because if 120hz was kept on 24/7 on the regular models with a smaller battery you would have people complaining about battery life if it isn’t already an issue. Try thinking a little harder next time

⁠@@Gabri3lRocha......the smaller Pro models have all historically had smaller batteries than the standard models, even the ones with 120 Hz. 13: 3200 mAh 13 Pro: 3095 mAh 14: 3279 mah 14 Pro: 3200 mAh 15: 3349 mAh 15 Pro: 3274 mAh Only with the 16 and 16 Pro has the Pro with a bigger battery, and even then, it's only a 21 mAh difference (3561 vs 3582) Additionally, 120 Hz wouldn't be on all the time. The Pro models have used LTPO panels, so it'll only use 120 Hz when scrolling, gaming, or other tasks that requires it. Most of the time refresh rate stays around 80 Hz, so even if the base 17 and 17 Air have 120 Hz displays, battery life would either be the same or better than previous models thanks to higher efficiency chips, better cooling, software tuning, and those 120 Hz LTPO displays

The only thing I have last to say is they most likely haven’t adopted ltpo displays for the regular models because they didn’t want to raise the purchase price but seems they in 2025 they can finally use the LTPO displays for the regular models because they finally got the cost down so that neither the consumer or Apple take the burden of spending more or losing more money

Though I wouldn't be surprised if Apple could've added 120 Hz to the standard 16 lineup but chose not to in order to keep a clear delineation between the standard and Pro models with regards to screen technology. Hell, part of me is willing to bet that Apple will give the 17 and 17 Air LTPO displays from the 13 Pro, where the screen refreshes between 10-120 hz rather than 1-120 hz just to make the Always on Display a Pro only feature.

@@Metamine0 sure I suppose they most likely could have done it for the 16s but just wanted to wait it out one more year. Not sure if I’ll upgrade to the 17 plus from my 16 plus for 120hz. I’m sure I would though. Went from the 13 pro max to the 16 plus for satellite services, usbc, and apple intelligence features (which have been a big nothing burger honestly). Thought I would miss 120hz from my 13 pro max but got used to 60hz very quickly. I still wouldn’t mind having 120hz though again. I just don’t like the pros anymore. The camera stuff is just overkill for me. My gallery is just screenshots mostly, not a picture guy at all. I just want a phone with big battery, efficient software and friendly UI

@ the 13 pro didn’t have a flashy new feature like the dynamic island or a redesign, but it made big improvements on battery life, the cameras, and the display (120hz) which I think are much more important aspects to a smartphone

@@28MannyR28 most normal none techie people don’t even know that 120hz even exist and as far as battery life and camera, they improve those little by little every year just like they will in 2025. For some people the 2025 iPhone will a huge upgrade just not for you. It’s entirely subjective and circumstantial on whether it worth it for someone to upgrade their phone this year

@@Gabri3lRocha Are you assuming that anyone that bought the 13 Pro had a X - 12? I had a XR myself, but some people STILL have iPhone 8 to this day. If you wonder what changed, mainly the camera, but the screen and battery improved as well. The camera was better at low-light than the 12 Pro. Added focus control and cinematic mode to video, added macro mode, ProRes, and an additional zoom level (3x), the screen got brighter and added ProMotion, aka high refresh rate, and the battery was larger giving it waaaay better battery life. That’s all over the 12 Pro so imagine how I felt coming from a XR with an increase in RAM preventing apps from reloading and two additional cameras.

I’ve had so many iPhones throughout my life and only a few androids but I always went back to iPhones. Let me say this. Apple is losing me and I’m back to wanting to switch to android again. The foldables are grabbing my attention with the bigger screen being accessible when I want it. These damn iPhones are seriously the same thing every year!

Some had commented that they will not be moving to TSMC’s N2 node this year (my guess is that AI chips gaining popularity while cell phone upgrades losing popularity led to a change in the dynamic) I wouldn’t put it past Apple to release a poor capacity phone with the air that will be replaced with a more practical version the next year (looking at you iPhone 12-13 mini). But I hope they hold off for another year until the new node has mainstream pricing.

I love how you are SO EXITED about the Modem. I think that will literally be the SMALLEST Improvement in battery life EVER, like MAYBE a few percent. Like 2-3… Apple doesnt do LITERAL magic, unlike what they want you to believe! The Modem has to still do everything that Any modem has to do. Apple probably was primarily motivated by not having to pay licensing fees to Qualcomm. A worse product that improves the bottom line is plausible. Qualcomm is also notoriously difficult to deal with since they have an essential monopoly (so with Apple being the same you had the metaphorical unstoppable force and immovable object)
