With Apple, as with any major organization, people tend to question the true motives of every major decision the company makes. Some of these theories can be pretty far-fetched and mostly resonate with small, more niche groups of people. But others, seem to have some pretty sound evidence. I’m going to go through some of the biggest of these conspiracies, including the evidence that supports or disproves them.

Another reason for removing the headphone jack was to prepare everyone for the iPhone X. Apple knew that the iPhone X will already be a controversial phone. The notch and removal of the home button would take some getting used to. They knew that they would not be able to have a headphone jack on the iPhone X because they needed to fold the display over itself in the bottom part of the device to achieve the bezel-less look. That is way none of the Android phones have done away with the chin, because you need to house the display components somewhere. To get that look, Apple folded the display over and mounted the display controllers at the back of the device. You cannot get a headphone jack through the display. Furthermore, there was no space for the headphone jack at the top. If you look at how densely packed everything is up there: Two rear cameras, both with OIS, the full set of depth sensing sensors, and Apple mounts its logic board, chipset and everything at the top of the device, opposite the camera sensor. They literally could not put the jack anywhere. The AirPods was a two fold approach. Apple envisioned a seamless wireless future and knew that they could achieve it with their hardware and silicon team. Secondly, they knew that is they did not have a great user experience alternative to a wired connection for their customers, they would be stuck using often unreliable Bluetooth options at the time. People criticize Apple for what they seeing right now. They do not stop to think that what we see now from Apple was decisions that were made 2-to-3 years ago. Apple's teams work on projects that we will not see in the marketplace for another couple of years.

I disagree with planned obsolescence, reason being sure my 4S only lasted two years but in that two years their CPU’s got 200% faster, and they switched to a 64 but architecture. However I’m on year 3 with my iPhone 7 running the iOS 12 GM and it still feels like a brand new phone.

RTG Your iPhone 7 running iOS 12 felt like a new phone because iOS 12 was probably the 1st iOS update that actually made most devices faster. Prior to iOS 12, older devices generally get slower after each updates. Apple was caught slowing down their phones during iOS 11, and they released iOS 12 that actually sped up phones possibly to make up for their mistakes.
@cjcq7
@cjcq7 4 жыл бұрын
Cancer Lord Sure, Apple devices get many years of updates for additional features. However, it’s a fact that an iPhone 5s on iOS 7 is faster than one on iOS 12. In terms speed and battery, planned obsolescence is very real.

cjcq7 notice how I said iOS 12 GM, I had been running it for a week at the time of that comment. My comment was not exclusive to my phone running iOS 12. They were slowing down phones with depleted batteries to increase stability. My phone was not affected by that as the battery was in good health. My comment still stands today running iOS 13. However I will likely be upgrading to the 12 Pro once it is released, looking forward to wireless charging and 4K at frame rates higher than 30 FPS :)

The “right to repair” movement is gaining traction, and no one is more opposed to it than Apple. Apple charges absurd amounts for repairs and component replacements (get a screen replacement elsewhere and you'll see the massive price difference). Admittedly, generally their hardware is of good quality, so I've never needed to buy AppleCare. However, those who do pay for AppleCare shouldn't have to pay twice the cost for, say, a RAM upgrade, if it's compatible hardware installed by a licensed technician. And if a non-Apple technician does a minor repair on an Apple product, Apple won't guarantee any subsequent repairs on the phone, and may charge full price regardless of whether they can fix it or not. I know this from personal experience: I had to my screen replaced on my iPhone 6, but my town had no Apple Store so I had to get someone else to replace it. A year later Bendgate destroyed the digitiser. Apple said they were going to charge me £120 for a replacement screen and digitiser, even though the screen was undamaged, and they told me it was a risky repair because the fact I'd had an unofficial screen replacement a year prior meant that they could offer no guarantees that my phone wouldn't become a brick after the repair. (Obviously I declined the repair; thankfully I soon inherited a 7+ from my brother.) I understand that a company like Apple, whose hardware is designed to work in a particular way, might get antsy allowing others access, but designing proprietary screws that are laced with chalk so they can tell when their devices are opened? That's a bit much.

I repaired my iPhone 7's screen with a third party. It didn't have multitouch,it would only register one finger at the time. So I decided to purchase a more expensive screen at a different place. This one did have multitouch but it broke after one drop with a case AND screen protector. Both places did say they offer guaranty but the guy at the first place pretended he didn't know me and I had not purchased it there (even with the receipt) and the second one said it was my fault for dropping it. Yeah, I'm never going to buy from anyone but Apple anymore.

No it’s because they have to optimise every android update for tons of devices like they relased 40 devices (phones) in 2019 so it would be hard to optimise the android update for each one since they are so many in lots of different shapes and size and don’t even get me started on tweaking the update for phones like the Galaxy S9 where they have to tweak android so it supports the iris scanning. planned obsolescence is a conspiracy? No. It's a well known trend that's widely use across all industries. Apple is no exception. Hell, apple openly admits to it, as they mentioned they were throttling older models because they were unable to handle new software. The unwillingness to expand the longevity of their older phones is planned obsolescence. They had other options, including capping the iOS version older devices can upgrade to and working to ensure backwards compatibility. Other examples of this include apple's cheap materials. This is especially prevalent in their macbook lineup, in which I don't believe a single year has gone by where a they didn't have issues with failure related to design flaws. Hinges, gpus, using the wrong transistor in one model. Louis Rossmann, who is a tech who specializes in repairing apple devices, has an excellent video on the repeated design failures of apple's mac books and I encourage you to look him up for indepth understanding of why apple devices have sub par quality. This use, however, of sub par quality, IS planned obsolescence. It's not a conspiracy at all. Also, I'd like to append to this that torx screws are not for aesthetics. I'm 3:29 seconds into this video, and I'm finding more and more an air of denial. I get that this is an apple geared channel, but fluffing the truth or outright ignoring it is a poor practice in my opinion.

About the planned obsolescence... I don't think it's actually programmed into the software. Rather, they're doing it in a smarter way. Via the RAM. Various tests hav shown that processor speed actually goes up through updates, but the overall phone slows down. Why? Because bigger OSs with more features require more RAM to run, and every single Apple mobile device has little RAM. This means that as newer OSs are installed, there is less RAM for the apps themselves to run. Less RAM means crashes due to a critical component not being accessed in the RAM fast enough(maybe compressed) or slow app launches due to the phone constantly having to clear out apps to have enough RAM to launch the new app.

7:17 I was watching a show called What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, and I did not search about the show prior on my phone ever, I typed W and Google auto filled everything. It was so spooky. I do have Google Assistant on Always Listening mode, so that makes me believe it's listening out for more than my Okay Google command. This started ever since I installed 7.0 Nougat, and it has gotten more accurate at predicting what I want since I installed 8.0 Oreo. Even Instagram and Facebook can predict what I'm interested, even without any prior input such as liking a photo, using a hashtag, searching for accounts or following, because I was just talking to my mom about fries and cheese burgers, then McDonald's ad with fries and cheese burgers popped out of my Instagram feed minutes after having the conversation with my mom. I had my phone with me.

A product called Timerunner will allow an administrator of a PC laptop sold to an innocent person to control all of that person's Apple computers and devices and will allow that person to control any of Apple's computers, or Ipads remotely. And furthermore monitor conversations, and even take photos and videos from the internal cameras without the knowledge of the new laptop owner. I was a victim of this when a Windows 10 with Timerunner was sold to me.

I have questions. First: if Apple Watches support iPhones, why not also support iPads? When searching that on the internet, I found that the connection is done through Wifi and Bluetooth, and ALL iPad models have them, even without cellular connectivity. Second: why is Apple Pay not yet supported in Latin America, apart from Brazil? And finally: why does TouchID on my iPad not working with my fingerprint, when that fingerprint worked perfectly on my iPhone and still works on my Android device?

As a person who has repaired and owns many older Apple products..anyone who thinks that Apple does planned obsolescence is just wrong..slowing a phone to make up for a weak battery is not planned obsolescence. Their answer to the slowing down phones was sound and though they should have been more transparent about it, what they did was reasonable..i'd rather have a slower phone than a phone that crashes and restarts. There are people who still use iPhone 4s's today..4 friking s's..we are talking 9 year old phones. It wouldn't make sense for planned obsolescence by giving multiple main OS updates and apps being supported many years after OS updates stopped. Samsung and Huawei barely ever give more than 2 or 3 updates..Motorola almost never updates lower end devices..wheres the conspiracy with those companies?.. The headphone jack had to go, those things date back to 1878. Its the same with the all USB C Macbook..If users aren't forced to change they would never change and the complete changeover from wired to wireless or USB 3 to USB C would be delayed even more... but when you are forced to, it helps push the technology and Apple had the balls and the resources to make these moves. Also, the headphone jack too up valuable space inside the phone.

Those spooky microphone advertisements have been proven to be coincidence, though. Think about it, before you had that conversation with your friend about buying a dog you might have looked up dog breeds, or made a post on Facebook, or just watched more videos about dogs on KZbin. Yes, advertisers are *absolutely* using your web data for targeted ads (and potentially other purposes), but your microphone? Much less likely than you think.

As far as Apple not allowing people access into the phones so they can work on them, Apple may have taken some cues from premium car companies like Mercedes, BMW, and SAAB to name a few. These premium car companies make it difficult to work on their products because the cars are branded as premium. Therefore, people who have premium cars supposedly have enough money to allow someone else to work on them saving the consumer time and frustration of working on it themselves. In the end, the car owner always has a working vehicle which helps give the product and usability of it a premium experience. This could be the same approach Apple has taken.

Wait a minute, you really didn’t answer the conspiracy about Apple 🍎 sealing their products so that users can’t repair their own device. You only mentioned about the battery. Could you go more in-depth about the customer self repair issue? They have Apple repair guy here on KZbin named Lois Rossmann who talks about many issues with Apple products. He even went to testified in Washington on the “Right to Repair” movement. Can you please make a video on this and how this applies to Apple products? Well as for the removal of the headphone jack for the iPhone 7 for the Taptic Engine is (apparently) not true as a guy went to China, bought various iPhone parts, drilled a hole on the bottom of his iPhone 7 and was able to re-add the headphone jack. It’s a rather famous video, you may have heard or seen the video so you may know the video I’m talking about. In the video when the guy opens the iPhone 7 he notices that the area where the headphone jack would rest (directly below the Haptic Engine) is a small piece of plastic serving absolutely no importance whatsoever; it just sits there to fill in the space. So Apple actually could have included/kept the headphone jack for the iPhone 7/7+. Why they didn’t? I honestly don’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️Could be to boost sales of AirPods but again, I honestly don’t know. I am not Apple. I do not, and never have, work(ed) at Apple. I am not an Apple expert (as much as I would love to be, I am not) but in the video it looked as though the space where the piece of plastic resides within the iPhone 7/7+ doesn’t need to be there other than to fill in a gap (something Steve Jobs; the creator/founder/original CEO of Apple Inc., never liked Apple products to have {unnecessary gaps or spaces}. A lot of products, mainly Android devices, have gaps and unnecessary components {like unnecessary plastic pieces} inside of their devices and it would seem as though; since Steve’s death [he died of lung cancer], his company, Apple; has taken a drastic turn. Apple wants to have technology the way Steve envisioned it to be: easy/simple to use even for the in-experienced without any risk of privacy. Since Steve’s death, Apple has done things Steve had never allowed when he was alive for instance: the use of a stylus. Back when the 1st iPhone (aka the iPhone 2G was announced) Steve stated his famous quote: ‘Who wants a stylus?’ He said this because before the iPhone, all “smartphones” at the time was dependent on the use of a stylus to be navigated with the device. An unnecessary need. Yes, that was before we had the technology we have today where we have Touch ID and 3D Touch and other technology. But Steve wanted technology to be different, hence Apple’s motto “Think Different.” Before the iPhone, everything looked and was used basically the same way. Steve wanted to change all that. He wanted people to ‘Think Differently.’ Since Steve’s death; I have noticed that Apple has made decisions/products that Steve would not approve of such as the removal of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7/7+ (and newer, excluding the SE). When Steve was still alive his design team had suggested on numerous occasions to remove the headphone jack in favor of wireless headphones but Steve knew consumers wouldn’t take that lightly. He was right. Even after his death. He was right.

The part about Steve... THAT WAS BULLSH!T. okayokayokay. Steve likes to remove a lot of things. Such as the CD Drive and the Floppy disk on the Macintosh. Back then, he knew that floppy disks had too little space, but the industry will just not move on cuz there was just so much support for it. Steve saw optical drives and knew that it was THE way. He removed the floppy drive, there was tons of backlash, but everyone eventually adopted to CD. Same thing with the CD drive. Steve saw that USBs r better. They are faster, you can delete things, they have more capacity...... So, he removed the CD drive. So many people r pissed, but now we're all using thumb drives or the internet. Now, Apple sees a port that is useless, because wireless can do it, and it can do it better. I personally love wireless. Ever since I tried it, I never wanted to go back. I can throw my iPad into my bag and music still plays. I can be doing stuff around my room and my Mac will just stream music directly to my headphones. It's truly amazing. And this is all because Apple removed the headphone jack. obviously, there could be commercial reasons adding up as well such as: 1. Their own AirPods 2. They own Beats, which sells wireless headphones. 3. Companies will use the proprietary lightning port when customers complain about having to use the dongle, and they have to pay the licensing fees to Apple.
