No one could cook like her of course because she was my grandma... but I’m so glad you are keeping these old country recipes alive. Especially in these days of cancel culture. We have an apple tree that my mother grew from a seed, she literally pulled the tree up and wrapped it up in wet newspaper and my husband brought it home taking 4hr on a very hot day. When he gat home he dug a hole, filled it with water planted it and gave it a good drink every day, the tree is nowhigher than our house and has a huge crop every year the apples are green and tart at the beginingof the season and then rippening to a lovely sweetness and golden. We dry them every year and also juice them, a true gift from God, we pick from the tree for 3-4 months a year. God bless you all.

This looks great! I can’t wait to try it! Helpful hint: To determine if your oil is hot enough to fry you can use the handle of a wooden spoon, (wood chopstick, wood handle of a spatula, or any other clean, wood kitchen utensil you have handy), dip it into the oil briefly. The oil is ready when the handle is immediately surrounded by small bubbles. This is easy, mess-free, dependable and doesn’t damage the wood unless it’s left in the hot oil for an extended and ridiculously long time. 😁

@@audreyarcher7156 Apfelringe are basically the same ingredients-wise but are different in that instead of chopped pieces of apples you use whole apple rings which you batter and fry. Kinda the same but different in bite. Both are really yummy :-) Somehow I'm now having a huge appetite for either... I guess I should make some with apples from our garden and have them for the first time in probably 25 years.

@@cathecavanaugh615 I pray for our country all the time. At 3:00 I pray the chaplet of Divine Mercy. Also pray the rosary several times a day and of course I start my day by going to Mass. With all this election fraud business it's enough to drive a person nuts. In the end I don't know who is going to win but I think the most important thing is to get our electoral system straightened out so we the people can trust it. Right now I don't.

At a small town bakery I worked at in my teens they called them uglies. He fried them in a huge steel kettle drum. I'll never forget them.

I think the only time I've ever had Apple Fritters were at the Apple Barn in Sevierville, TN near Dollywood. They brought them to the table in baskets and they were delicious! We couldn't stop eating them.

OH man! That is my favorite place to eat when we go to that area! I would also highly suggest their Muscadine Wine at their winery.
