I got the echo 4 because it costs only 70) with a smart light for free While the HomePod mini is impossible to get it for 99€ currently as almost everywhere it’s sold at 130 to 150€ it’s just nuts ... In term of sound quality from you rest it seems the echo is just slightly better But from other tests I have seen it seems that the HomePod mini sound is clearer not sure though if it’s real or not What’s your opinion ?

HomePod mini does sound smooth and spacious without any harshness/shrillness to the sound. Vocals are very clear. Easy listening. Surprising bass for the size. No distortion at 100 percent, while Amazon Echo does seem to distort. I'd say you can't go wrong with either. Some will like the small size. I guess in stereo pair it will sound great on the computer desk. In that scenario, you don't have to fill the room, as you sit close to the speakers. Sure, it cost a lot more, but it is what it is. When has Apple ever really competed on price? For an Apple product, it is cheap. Compared to Amazon, it is a rip off. Haha! But then, Amazon discounts every other store out of business! And I do like to buy cheap. But I do love Apple too. Anyway, thanks for the comparison.

I think most speakers sound their best at around 75% volume , as the bass seems to get ramped down.

That’s definitely true! 50-75% is in fact the optimal audio range for most speakers. I played at 100% to See the cracking points of each hardware and see which device excels in which area.

It doesnt help playing speakers at 100% volume. The Echo doesn't scale down the bass as the volume rises to 100%... obviously it will sound distorted. And the Mini was scaling the bass down, so it didn't sound distorted, but you also lost out on the bass itself, and heard mostly the clear highs and mids. Between 50-75%, both would have had their bass firing all the way and you'd have had a better idea of real-life performance.

I’m moving from home pod mini to the echo 4th gen. I only use my hotspot for Wi-Fi at home and the apple home pod doesn’t like this at all. My echos where very happy with this and worked perfectly. I’m an apple fan boy but there are too many connection limitations with the home pod
