I like how this episode is told in complete and utter silence, it adds to the emotional weight of the story. I never hated the background music, but I did feel like it was inappropriate.

If I were in Phoebe’s shoes and learned about Tina’s mother’s passing, I would’ve stopped and said, “Take the time you need. I’ll explain things.” Story ends there. Of course, this wouldn’t last more than two minutes.

Tina's mom died 3 days before the wedding. She still wouldn't have been able to attend the wedding. Too much planning and prep, especially since shes an only child. Phoebe is clingy and deranged.

Phoebe sounds alot as an old fomer friend, she thought she was better then anyone in high school, I grew tried of her narassticism, her mom had the same problem, when the woman had the andicticty to demae why my mom was late picking me up from school one day, she must have thought my mom was lazy, but my mom, now since retied had been teaching at the time, I realize that I shouldn't have made friends with that girl in frist place.

Phoebe had the gull to think that Tina was using her mother's funeral as an excuse for not going to her wedding. If I was told that I was using my mother's funeral as an excuse for not attending something else or go somewhere, I would have screamed into their face and given them hell for thinking that I was using the most depressing time of my family's life as an excuse for not attending something they wanted to do or travel.

Phoebe must not have many friends (because of her attitude) since she says that Tina is her best friend, yet she claims that Tina always makes up lies to avoid doing things with her. I would not consider someone my best friend if I thought about them the way Phoebe thinks about Tina.

Just for everyone's info. In Chinese culture, a person in mourning is not even supposed to attend weddings. It brings bad omen to bride & groom. Even siblings my sis got her wedding postponed because of the funeral.

I've been to evening wakes. It can be during the day or in the evening. Most wakes I have been to were the evening before the funeral but, obviously, could be the same day.

My grandfather's and my grandmother's funerals were quickly done though my grandfather's body was donated for science and my grandmother wanted to be cremated. My grandmother only wanted my brother, my aunt, and my uncle when they did that. Nobody else was "invited" to see her off before her body was cremated. My first son's funeral took a little longer because some of the body parts/organs were donated to save another baby who needed them desperately to live. Plus we had some of my family members come out that were out of state to support me, my husband, and his family. I suppose it all falls under the circumstances(?) Because some of the funerals that I was invited to were done quickly. It was only after the funerals were done that took almost a week before anybody went home. It wasn't to mourn/grieve for the person who passed away but to treat it like a family reunion, half of the time some people admitted they didn't even know or care about the deceased person. Only wanted a reason to visit family without putting any effort into it. It also could be due to the state too, some states have to hold the body for a few days/a week to see if the person would wake up. It comes from back when a person that "died" didn't actually die but was in some kind of coma and they woke up. But that's why some cemeteries still have bells attached to the stone or something in case of that person actually being alive. Or if that family just wants it done and over with. Who knows, and it depends a bunch of everything else.

Just asking, but who does a middle school reunion. I see that a lot on these stories. I can't even remember who was in school then. Besides, we didn't have middle schools. Only Elementary, Jr. High then High School.

In Japan only 9 years of education are mandatory, through 3 years oh middle school. High school is not required and requires exams and tuition to be able to attend.

@dlewis9760 or because some people in some podunk backwater in the US are ignorant of how Junior High and middle school are different terms for the same thing in their own country. While rare in public schools, private schools in the US are about 50/50 on holding middle school reunions. Mine did, I didn't go but I got the invite. In Missouri just for transparency. It must be a sad existence to not know your country isn't a boring homogeneous thing where there isn't a single "How we do things in America."
