Courtney is obviously right in her understanding of what happened. But Nora is just completely stuck in her delusions. She is still hung up on Jake. Five years ago, she was told Jake was married. She had to pay compensation for harassing Jake's wife, Courtney's cousin. And now five years later and she is still hung up on Jake. Even knowing he is married, has always been married even when she first met Jake at work, Nora will not let it go. Nora is a stalker type.

Great VA but the ending of this story is awful. Forced marriage is not alright under any circumstances. Also, please remember that step-sister and sister-in-law are two different things.

Have to agree. Married as a caregiver to a man with a few ' quirks '. I think the original culture has some ' quirks ' of its own. Yes, this girl Nora is, and has, a problem, but it sounds like she needs therapy, not marriage. She wants Jake, and no one else. She can't have him, but marrying her off like that is basically setting her up for r*pe. The very thought makes me feel ill.

I have been thinking about this ending. Her parents wanted to do something to stop Nora from pursuing her delusions. Unless they were wealthy, they may not have had any options except sending her off somewhere far from most other people and have her under the control of this old man. It is probably a cultural thing, that solution to crazy Nora. Really, she needed help 5 years ago! As soon as she started stalking and harassing Jake's wife, she should have been committed to a locked facility temporarily to straighten her out 5 years ago. I think there is a mental health crisis in the US. I think there may be one world-wide too. My niece had a stalker. The police got involved. His parents got involved. I think he was sent to Alaska to live with a relative there.

Family that is from your spouse are IN LAWS, STEP means married to your parent but not biologically related. So my new husband's sister becomes my SISTER IN LAW, whereas if my dad remarried his new spouse and family would now be my STEPFAMILY, ie stepmother, stepbrother, step sister. Big big difference between STEPS and IN LAWS.
