@@crazycatlady6396 She may have done this so her son didn't realize what she was up to. If she could get DIL to leave on her accord, it may have been the best way. If her son realized her true intentions and there's history of abuse with the men, she may have put her DIL in danger if he knew she was trying to escape. But she ended up having to anyways and helped her get out ASAP when it was safe to do so.

I didn’t grow up in a family like this. My parents worked split shifts so one of them was always home with us two kids. I’m 65 and back in the 50’s and 60’s there was no such thing as “daycare” My Dad did most of the cooking because my Mom worked evenings and nights. Our house ran at 50/50 I was blessed🥹💕

I give respect to Ann for trying to protect her DIL, but if she had really wanted to help; before they were even married she should have pulled the op to the side and explained the treatment of women in that family. That would have saved a lot of time and heartache.

@@georgiegal6745 That was definitely my reaction too! My guess is that she was trying to save her DIL so she could leave on her accord without her son knowing what her true intentions were. If she came out and said something directly to DIL in the beginning, it may have gotten back to her son and put DIL in danger if there is history of abuse among the men...

The MIL was a bully. She could have explained things at anytime but chose to bully the DIL in hopes the husband would protect his wife or the DIL would decide to leave. She could have explained what she was doing at any point. And whatever the country of origin, in the US the mother would have been responsible for her own expenses in the nursing home.

People don't always listen to advice if they are in love with someone especially if there are gaslighting going on from the spouse. If she could get DIL to leave on her accord, it may have been the best way to get her DIL out without her son knowing what was her true intentions were. If there is a history of abuse from the men, she could have put her DIL in danger if he knew she was trying to escape. When she felt when it was safe to do so, she was direct with DIL after she woke up to the abuse and helped her leave ASAP.
