I had this same problem and was so frustrated with it for many months. After one point i decided i could deal with it anymore and went to the apple store. When i went there and explained my problem, they replaced it for me free of charge! But now is a couple months after the replacement and the same problem has returned. Thank you so much for this method as it fixed my smart keyboard instantly!

Thank you for making this troubleshooting video 🙏🏼 This is very helpful in understanding the mechanism of the 3 dot connectors located at the keyboard. And yes, mine, the middle ones was not at the same horizontal level with the 1st and 3rd dot, it looked somehow pushed a bit inward. So, I made some few gentle push around the middle dot using the back tip (the rounded tip) of my stainless nail file. Then I saw the 3 dots are now at the same level again! I’m now typing with my 3.5 year-smart keyboard, hopefully this would resolve the matter for quite sometime 😁

Thank you very much! I was able to fix my keyboard after watching this, then watching another video that showed the soldering technique. It's the first time I've had success with my soldering iron!

Thank u soo much.mine was working for the last 6 months. I had countless hours with apple support who wanted me to pay for a replacement. I also tried the method with a pin and it worked for a few seconds. But it broke again. So i took the small rubber beading around the 3 pins and lifted it up. It works like a charm now.typing on my keyboard. Thank you so much. Ps. Guys, if you do the pen trick and its still not working. Poke around with it for a little bit. Each scenario is different. Subbed liked and shared on other videos where people are just moving the ipad along the keyboard. Thank u

Thanks for this video. I don’t have a soldering iron and all 3 pins are leveled correctly. I pushed and held my iPad to the left for 10 seconds and voila, I can finally type on my keypad. Thanks again!!!

Thanks! This worked for me. I used a scalpel on removed the rubber around the 3 pins. No soldering.

I have just tried fixing my magic keyboard.....using an eraser/ rubber to rub off the possible carbon built-up after both contacts points connecting one another too long. Now it work absolutely fine for my key board. Hope this sharing helps others..... Cheers.

Hi there. I have had the same problem with my Smart Keyboard and have sorted it by just pushing down on the pins with a small screw driver and that seems to work. Looks like the problem is with the springs. Thanks for the video. Derrick.

I would add one thing to your advice, which was VERY HELPFUL, btw. Once I understood that there were springs, underneath the contact pins, I tried GENTLY jiggling them with the point of my wife’s metal nail file. The centre pin popped up again and was FIXED! I am typing this on my keyboard, now. So, I suggest you add that to your video? After checking the Warranty, if you have no alternatives, BEFORE you take the drastic action of soldering, try just giving the pins a bit of a poke? GENTLY, so as NOT to damage them. That worked for me. Thank you for your help ✌️👍

Amazing - my keyboard used to constantly make a connecting noise and not work - I am terrible at soldering but added a blob to each and used a nail file to get them all level afterwards. Thank you for the tip! I’m writing this comment with my keyboard :)

I too used a thin piece of metal from a twist tie into the middle hole and now it works! Great video and comments
@davideng94284 жыл бұрын
Hi, may I know how you do it? Thank you
@em2johns4 жыл бұрын
David Eng Used some small sewing scissors to try to get underneath and lift the metal piece up. Ended up semi-removing some of the plastic around the hole. I then stripped a small piece of twist tie and pushed it into the hole. I ended up cutting the piece smaller after I put the keyboard on as too much was sticking out. The keyboard kind of mashed the metal bit to the side and sits pretty flush. Not elegant but it works :)

I just like to add an observation I have done with my keyboard, I got this almost new keyboard and connected to my iPad and the keyboard did not work, I noticed that only works if I put the keyboard at an angle of 90 deg or more. I have another iPad same model, and it works fine, so I thought it must be the contacts. I try cleaning but no luck. I was about to try your solution, but then I realize the problem is not the keyboard. So I did the following. I connected the iPad that does not work with the connector, and then connected the other iPad that works in the area where the iPad sits, in other words I use the iPad that works only to activate the magnet to turn it on the keyboard. To my surprise it works fine. So in summary it may be a problem with the magnet. I think it may be possible to get a strong magnet and charge your iPad magnets. I hope it helps someone.

I tried this fully knowing the risks. I used a small piece of solder, not soldered on to diagnose the problem, and it did work.. then when I went to solder, nothing would make it work. I tried varying levels < and that was my problem. I damaged my iPads middle connector, which has some visible denting from trying different sizes. So word of caution, not only did this not work, it caused some damage on my actual machine....
