You're using a shotgun mic. Its a unidirectional microphone. It only records sounds that is directly in front of the mic. It wont sound good (much lower volume) when the sound source is at the back/side of the mic. In your video, the mic was pointed directly to the table. It would sound better if you point the mic directly towards you.

Great video Jared, Although i think leather wears off better, and gets more grip over time. Silicon ones are way more grippy at start but when the material wears off, it feels more slick - in terms of slippery.
