All the new AI features are great, but I'm still waiting for the Mail app to be usable. How can they still have such a terrible user experience with Mail in dark mode? I don't know about you, but I CANNOT see the Archive, Move (and other) buttons at the bottom of any email message that shows a light text background, while the rest of the app is in dark mode. C''mon, man!

HATE! HATE! HATE! That Apple decided to make categories the default look under the mail program. Should've made it so that it was an opt in by default, and not having to opt out.

It's not hard to opt out and most have been loving the feature. Hiding new features behind settings makes people less likely to use them. Turn it off one time and you're good.

@@AppleInsider The thing is normals should not have to opt out. It is up to you penance to prove to us that categories are a better way to go. Categories just hide eMail messages from normals who do not know that they have to now go looking for an eMail message because it was moved to a category folder. Sorry this in my view is a MAJOR FAIL on Apples part deciding that categories are the default way to have to go exploring to find your eMail messages. Hate that Google does this in the web version under Chrome for Gmail.

@@AppleInsider I this case in the mail program, an eMail may come in and put into a category folder that is very important. Since most normals will not know that they need to go to the extra steps of checking every folder each and every time they open the mail application they may miss it. For the mail application it needs to be KISS operation just like when we go to take the post out of the mailbox.

So-called "AI" is everywhere... and most "AI" that I have come across is anything BUT 'intelligent'. The moral of Apple's "AI" is that if you can't beat AI-hype, then best join it.

This sounds like you have a beef with AI versus anything Apple is doing. It's entirely opt-in, so no requirement to use it if you don't want to, ya know? There is a lot to AI than just a writing prompt and Apple is attempting to do something basically no one else is doing. Creating personal AI, with massive on-device processing, that is *actually* useful. It's not going to do that overnight and it is slowly making progress towards that goal. The AI world is only just starting and Apple has a monumental uphill task, more than basically everything, to be useful while also being private and secure.

I also don't see anyone else offering up AI features while talking about privacy at all. It's basically just a huge play to collect data. apple wants to make it personal while also keeping all of your data private. That's an insane task to do. It's barely even possible

Apple Intelligence is something you have to turn on and allow. After it is allowed, it will then give the option of ChatGPT integration for any complex questions or requests that the Apple intelligence on device software can’t do on its own. Even then, you have the option so that it always asks before it uses ChatGPT. If you don’t want any of that, then you just switch Apple intelligence off

@@DojoOfCool They are two different things. Apple Intelligence encompasses a bunch of AI features that need to be enabled in Settings > Siri & Apple Intelligence. It includes Image Playgrounds, Genmoji, Writing Tools, Reduce Interruptions Focus mode, notification summaries, phone call summaries, LLM integration, and more. You have to enable Apple Intelligence before you can enable ChatGPT, which is the first LLM to integrate into Apple Intelligence. This would theoretically allow a lot of niche LLMs to be added alongside ChatGPT and each of those can be enabled as needed. If you don't want any of the Apple Intelligence features, don't turn it on. You're good!

@@DurfDiggler Wide aspect ratio photos don't fit on the screen unless you edit them first. The software does not allow you to make changes without setting both the lock screen and the background photo again. When you set the wallpaper or background photo again, if you want the same one, you have to navigate all the way to the photo again to set it instead of the software remembering the last photos you used. It's been broken since 2013. Every new version of this software does not fix the wide aspect ratio photo issue and introduces more poor broken unfinished programming. When the iPhone came out in 2007, any photo you chose would fit on the screen and a "move and scale" code would allow you to adjust it as you saw fit. Today, Tim Cook and his affirmative action DEI hire engineers can't get anything right so it just remains broken and it will until he gets fired. Even a high school kid to do better than this failure that is iOS.

@ Ah, I see. I vaguely recall there being an option to set a pano as Lock Screen wallpaper and it would pan as you rotated the phone… maybe I’m making that up. They def seem more focused on useless cutesy stuff to attract three muggles rather than actual functionality. I don’t have the time or energy to tell you all of my HomeKit woes, nor all the stuff I used to be able to do with iPhoto. I know it doesn’t solve your issue, but consider tagging the OG photo & the edited as “wallpaper”, or put them in a folder (whatever happened to smart folders?) at least they’ll be easier to find in the future.
