Finally... a review that's honest and real-world, as oppose to just meaningless benchmark stats from the more popular tech reviewers. For the average web dev, m4 pro is overkill. And generally, saving 1min from a 3 or 4 min task isn't massive savings of time in comparison to the price. Especially for a task performed once, twice or three times a day... Other than screen brightness which in the uk is really a non-issue and TB5, which isn't really that affordable to use in itself, its practically the same laptop as m1 pro with slight enhancements

Only just came across your channel - great honest review for the average person (me). I code occasionally, design 3D models for 3D printing and do lots of excel heavy work. Was on a M1 (not Pro) with 16GB ram and was getting constrained and had to keep closing Chrome to allow for RAM to shift to other apps which then became unproductive so I decided to to get the 24GB M4 Pro and can see a remarkable difference side by side.

Dude, what a great video, you made my day :D However, I did upgrade from M1 Pro to M4 Pro due to the RAM constrains. I am multitasking like hell, woring with tens of aplications and windows simultaneously and I struggled a lot with 16GB RAM. I have 48GB RAM now and the improvement is massive! I think the amount of memory is the most important parameter cause CPU speed is not so critical, storage can be expanded eventually but RAM is supercritical part of the Apple silicon architecture.

I am a web designer and developer (websites and iOS apps). Two weeks ago, I switched to a MacBook Pro 14" M4 Pro 24GB RAM/512GB SSD from a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro 16GB RAM/512GB SSD. And I can say that with the new M4 Pro, there’s no lag or slowdowns that I experienced with the M1 Pro. The RAM usage rarely goes into the "yellow" zone, whereas with the 16GB RAM machine, it was almost always in the yellow. For me, at least, the upgrade makes sense, as it will provide me with a smooth and pleasant working experience for the next 3 years. If I had stayed with the M1 Pro and its 16GB of RAM, I would have been able to use it relatively trouble-free for a maximum of another year (until the next version of macOS).

I saw the comparative charts, not only the ones apple showed but also the youtubers made for theirs respective channels. Everyone justified a performance increase indirectly encouraging a potencial purchase. However, since my mac is running so smoothly, I guess the upgrade is meant for someone who doesn't have a macbook and needs one.

Appreciate it! This repo has around 3.5K tests and it ran roughly 40% faster. I almost never run all the tests (leave it to CI 😅) But generally, NPM, Docker have all been a little faster in comparison to the M1 Pro.

He's right. On some points you need to find out which version of the chip you were going to end up getting. And which version of the chip did you see people using on the internet, especially influencers. Cuz the ones provided for them tends to be the best of the best. We need some people who's actually getting the basic model so on and so forth. More than likely the one you will be purchasing. And then you need to know all of the tests specifically for your general use case scenario. Otherwise you'll get this new computer and it won't really be helping you. It would be something you could already do with the older computer.

I'm currently using a Windows machine but want to upgrade to a Mac. My work primarily involves browsers and Android simulators. After switching to a Mac, I plan to use Xcode alongside Android simulators for multiple devices and perform some tasks in browsers. I'm considering the M1 Pro because it's affordable and gets the job done. I don't mind waiting a few extra seconds if necessary. Will the M1 Pro work for my use case, or should I consider the M4 Pro? Also, battery life is a priority for me. How is the battery performance? Is there a significant difference between the M1 Pro and M4 Pro in terms of battery life?
@SohilPandya1Ай бұрын
It definitely works on the M1 Pro! I know of people in my circle who managed to do that on the M1. (No pro) With regard to battery life. The M1 Pro definitely had to be plugged in earlier than the current M4 Pro that I’m using, the battery capacity was 83% after 3 years. You can always replace it to get a brand new one. At which point the costs might not make sense. Hope this helps in your decision making!
@aadil4236Ай бұрын
@SohilPandya1 Just one more question. In terms of battery, how long does the M1 pro lasts considering my use case as described in earlier comment ? Does it lasts for about 8-10 hours? I heard people claiming on the internet that their battery lasts for the entire day on a single charge. I just find it hard to believe, I mean the battery performance should be worse after like 3-4 months. I think they're just testing it on a brand new M1 pro.
@SohilPandya1Ай бұрын
Again, I would say 8 hours full on work will be hard for a laptop that’s 3 years old, if your work is varied it’ll be fine to a certain extent. You’ll definitely get 6 hours for sure. 8-10 depends on how many chrome tabs you have open 😅 I will say, the m4 pro battery life is insane! But I’m pretty sure I felt the same Way when I got M1 Pro and it was brand new. How much are you getting an M1 Pro for? Saving a lot of cash?
@vhategАй бұрын
Make sure you get enough RAM!!! If you run an emulator that takes at least 4GB with the RAM-greedy Android Studio, how much will you have left? Will you be able to have open browser files? Will you be able to do have a video tutorial/music open in the background? Will you be able to run Docker images? How many. The Apple Silicon SoCs are amazingly powerful, but the RAM offerings are paltry and an absolute bad joke value-wise.

I use ableton and do musical scores and dance tracks and occasional drone footage editing, i have a M1 Pro MacBook with 10 core cpu 16 core gpu 16gig ram and there’s nothing a m4 with similar config that can do what this doesn’t so i have zero need to upgrade until it literally dies, people forget that music and videos have been made and edited for years on lesser machines and apple is becoming a yearly trend thats a expensive habit just to keep up with the imaginary Jones’s.

Looking at finally getting in on the Apple silicon lineup and have a few thoughts on your video. Currently I can get the M4 Pro model for around £1800 or the M1 Pro model for around £1200 for the 10 core version. Is the £600 pound difference worth it for newer hardware plus 8gb more ram? Thanks
@SohilPandya12 ай бұрын
What is the main use case for you? Personally, I’d pay the £600. If it was a bigger different OR you were getting an M1 Max for that 1200 then I’d say go for it.

M1 Pro is getting old, so if you have to really look at conditions and buy from professional seller or from someone you know that takes good care of the machine. And look at battery cycles as it’s a costly replacement.
@jonathangoudie25542 ай бұрын
@ Yeah I’m probably just going to go with the M4 Pro tbh. A new M1 cost around 1300/1400 which is something I’d want considering I plan on keeping this machine for 5+ years. It feels like the difference in cost isn’t worth going for an older model all things considered. Thanks for your comment 😀
