Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Late 2016) Overview

This is a video of the new laptop I've been talking about which has replaced my old ThinkPad T420 I had since 2014, I replaced with a 2016 15" TouchBar MacBook Pro. I actually got this laptop in July 2018 after I had sold my T420.
This may seem like an unexpected decision for me as in the past I've been very negative towards Apple, however over the years I've come like some of the stuff they're doing, and while the 2016 DongleBook is nowhere near their best product ever made, far from it due to all the known problems with these, the software and (some of) the hardware experience have made it a computer I have come to really like.

The thing about these laptops is, they hold their value incredibly well. Considering you can still get money for 2010 Macbook Pros after some upgrades (now 10 years old) I'd say Macs are a worthy investment. I personally replaced my desktop with the new 16 inch Core i9 Macbook pro, and I think I'm sticking with it. Nice choice Jack!

Definitely not an idiot for buying for that price, I would have too. I bought a 2013 first gen Retina for peanuts off a coworker this year and throwing the stigma aside, it's a lovely computer to use for general day to day duties. I don't think i'll ever fully drink the Apple kool-aid but I have enjoyed owning it.

Yeah I really like it, keyboard anxiety aside. I wouldn’t say I drink the kool-aid either but I definitely like the tie in between iOS and macOS

That is PCI-E 3.0, x4 lanes that the SSD communicates through; "GT/s" means gigatransfers per second, which is like a raw data speed measurement and I believe in the context of PCI Express, one GT/s is equal to 100 MB/s. In other contexts like Thunderbolt and USB, the GB/s 'equivalent' of the GT/s rating actually changes, due to things like different encoding, overhead, etc. PCI-E 1.x is 2.5 GT/s per lane, 2.0 is 5.0 GT/s per lane, 3.0 is 8.0 GT/s per lane, and finally 4.0 is 16 GT/s per lane. Note that from PCI-E 3.0 onwards they changed the encoding from 8b/10b to 128b/132b or something like that, so the speed is still effectively almost double that of 2.0.

I recommend you get the keyboard replaced asap! it will fail after some time, and apple won't have the free replacement program forever! there are also some cases where apple will replace the entire keyboard housing which can give you upgraded specs for free. other than the keyboards, these are nice machines. 900$ is a very good price for one!

Nice! I first got into macs in 2013 with the 2012 Mac Mini. It's still working well today albeit a bit slow. I've been experimenting with running linux mint on it recently using an external hard drive.

Does your keyboard have N-key rollover and is connected via a USB connection? I know that USB keyboards with n-key rollover typically have two rollover modes, 6-key and n-key. In the BIOS, the keyboard switches over to 6-key mode since I believe BIOS code cannot handle a keyboard driver that can input more than 6 keys at once. In the operating system, you may notice two keyboard drivers in Device Manager when the keyboard is plugged in. I believe one of them is the "base" six key driver and the other is the n-key driver that enables the any num. of key rollover function. So you might want to check that out.

Keyboard is running over PS/2, it is a USB keyboard however it came with a PS/2 adapter in the box so I've been using it over that. I don't remember what the rollover limit on this keyboard is, it's a Das Keyboard Professional Model S, though I tried an IBM Model M as well as a cheapo imitation MX Brown switch keyboard and they all had the same problem, which is why I came to the conclusion it was Windows driver related, as they all stopped working after a Cumulative update.
