Hi Defpom (P.O.M. = "Pride of Mother England"!). This is my machine, & it's been real helpful to see the issue was just bad soldering. I tried several times to solder the chip legs and had the same problem as yourself. After many attempts, I couldn't tell conclusively if the solder had flowed correctly. I can see now via your microscope, that it clearly didn't. I was concerned that applying too much heat may destroy the chip, and so was (too) cautious. Thanks so much for making the video, and I hope someone gets continued use out of it. It's been a workhorse for me for many years, so great to see it working again. Great video.

Enamel wire not my favourite, much prefer Kynar 30AWG.

Try disconnecting the mod replace the GPU capacitor next to the big coil see if that fixes the GPU issue normally that’s all it is the capacitor failing

Nice fix on the stubborn little chippie. Looked like the legs waren't clean or didn't come up to temperature, judging here from the comfy couch with my legs up. I liked some real life action on the microscope, gives me an idea. Feels good you put it into use again and the little machine seemed to be well sorted after.

Hello, are you willing to fix a mbp for free? I have this 2011 15” with a dead board and keyboard which is given to me for free but it seems my area can’t fix it. I really want to use it because I don’t want to contribute in another e-waste so I want to give this a shot.

I don't actually consider the fact that they kept the original packaging as someone who looks after their stuff. I don't keep any of my original packaging, I don't have anywhere to store it, but I look after all my stuff rather well. If I was to buy something from say eBay, Gumtree, etc... I wouldn't put much into it if I don't get original packaging because of that. It's the way the world is going, as houses get smaller and more squished together. I mean, I have a pretty decent sized house, and a shed, but to keep all packaging, I would run out of room rather quickly.

Good fix but think Apple are an absolute waste of money. And a massive e-waste generator by design. If you hadn't fixed this, it would have ended up in landfill.
