@@jjb0894 Modern Windows has Microsoft Defender, which is a built-in antivirus. While I haven’t used Windows since I moved to macOS and Linux in 2017, from what I’ve heard, Defender has actually gotten ‘good enough’ fairly recently.

Great tutorial! Yes I have been hacked using a Macbook. During a Skype conference, a loud pulsation signal was heard, It lasted 2 seconds. Then after at 45 minute intervals. Realizing that this was not normal, I went to an Apple store.While my computer was being examined, the screen froze. The technician exclaimed "you have been hacked"!He deleted the HD and reinstalled. No problem afterwards. Please note:the wifi signal at Apple Stores are unsecured!

Yep, my company wants me to sell anti viruses on macs but I always advise against it for this particular reason. When a client does want an anti virus on a mac, you are essentially replacing an already existing software with something that is already there.

I have a question, I have noticed when I open a second page on Safari that the web browser goes to "searchmarquise" I have tried everything to get rid of this and it still pops up. I have run first aid and it does not show up. But it still shows up in my browser. Can you help me disable or delete this malwear please.

it's been a year since i bought my new mac, everything was fine till i noticed that it was slowing down for no reason, the built in mac antivirus never told me anything, but after installing norton 360 i found out that I had 2 very dangerous trojans ("Trojan.Maljava" and "OSX.Trojan.Gen.2") that were possibly selling my personal informations or other stuff. I am quite prudent and I don't really remember installing software that shuldn't be trusted. I think that an additional antimalware is a good choice to keep macs safer

I bought the mac mini M1 for music production with Logic Pro. I've been using Pc's for years and this is my first mac. I've yet to take it out of the box. I do have an existing Norton 360 account and was hoping to use one of my 5 licenses on the new mac. I'm concerned about not using additional antivirus / malware software as I will be using VST plugins & working with large sound files, samples, loops etc. I'd appreciate any advice. BTW maybe I missed you talking about the firewall. Is this enabled by default and should it be enables / disabled if I do use additional AV protection? Thanks.

My Macbook Air has been acting strange lately, leading me to this video. I cannot find XProtect in my system setting's library. Should I be concerned? I have searched to see if I can download it, but I need help finding something. The latest date under the system report is 7/6/2023, but nothing after that. Not finding it under my Macintosh HD under CoreServices is alarming. Does anyone have any advice?

I know it has been a while now since i have creates other video, but i will be bringing out an update to this one as it seems a popular topic. The reason you cant find it is apple has changed the OS quite a bit since this video but it is still there just a bit deeper. With regards to being concerned would be impossible for me to answer without knowing much more on your habits as you still pretty much need to install the malware yourself. If you are uncertain the only software i can recommend is called bitdefender. If you scan and find problems i wouldn’t worry as most are often in downloads or your email which doesn’t directly effect you. If you find anything in anyone of your libraries this is a different matter and will need further investigation but in my experience this is quite rare.

Hello Tony, the 2015 iMac is a great reliable iMac and it is capable the running the current MacOS Monterey meeting the latest security requirements, It is an Intel Mac "Which I still prefer" and have no interest in getting an M1 yet not for at least the next couple of years until most of the bugs and software problems have been fixed, I also use windows for my home automation projects which still doesn't work on M1 and may never properly. Once the M1 has matured all Intel Macs are likely to slowly disappear and no longer be supported then I would possibly think again but I certainly wouldn't worry for the next couple of years. all the best....

I don't think I've ever had malware on my Mac. I have had Gatekeeper stop me from installing apps before, and it really doesn't give false positives, so when it tells me to stop, I don't try to bypass it.

Yes, well spotted and you are correct? however this is actually my diagnostics disk I have booted from for screen sharing this youtube video as I don't want everyone seeing my personal files. I use bitdefender to clean my clients infected computers. all I did was create a new user called video user "which you can also see" I do not use any virus software on my main everyday MacBook. have a fab day :)

Liked your opinion. But I have a further question. Do you think an Antivirus software like Kaspersky is a weakness for MacOS because of the integration of the AV in the system? You basically allow it to have access to all your files and how u use the system/all web content

Hello DerFleau, I wouldn't necessarily say Kaspersky is a weakness as such, Because I of the way the newer system works Apple give you an extra layer of protection so no programs without your permission can access you are drive, screen share and scan network etc. by allowing Kaspersky full access "which would be needed for it to perform a scan of your hard drive" you could possibly compromised your security if Kaspersky where hacked or if your software was not downloaded from a legit site etc. I wouldn't say there is anything to worry about, but then I personally don't use anything like this and have a professional hardware firewall at home mainly because I service and repair Macs and dont know what my clients have been up to. I switched from a pc to an iMac earlier this year. On the pc I was running Norton 360 so I’ve continued to do so on the iMac. After watching this video it seems I no longer need my Norton, will I be safe to de register and remove my Norton. In other words will the iMac take over the job you have just described.

Hello Martin, lets put it this way, I have zero antivirus software on my macs and I take my MacBook with me to all my clients and have never had any issues, In fact in the early day I had a significant amount of problems actually running AntiVirus Software. I certainly would not use Norton even on a Windows PC. I have been to clients running apps like Sophos and found there computers to still have malware installed "always by the end user installing software they shouldn't" in which sophos and another package "i cant remember what is was now but I believe norton" did not pick up. instead I have a diagnostics disk with BitDefender installed, this found the infected files and successfully removed them. In general I don't suggest any software and instead using a little caution with what you download and install as all virus I have come across require you to type your password to install. Apple even do a good job in warning you and preventing this. congratulations on purchasing your first Mac and I hope you enjoy your experience.

This is a great video. Easy to understand. I will probably be installing Norton. I do have a slight problem when my mac now opens Safari when it starts up, even though I have set the preferences to not do. I don't know how I can correct it. ? My Bank has installed an app on my computer.

@@MrDazzathedude What I am saying is my computer does when I login. It starts Safari and I have not selected it to open Safari when I boot up and login. What happens is Raport software from IBM I believe opens Safari for me and I don't want it to. I set my preferences to not laugh any apps. But my computer does despite choosing the option to not open relaunch open window. I close all apps before shutting down.

I followed your steps to find "XProtect.bundle" but I control clicked it and there was no "show package content" plus the icon of XProtect has this little black arrow pointing at the icon itself which does not look like yours. If you ctrl click, it says "show original". weird... So I did a search on MRT, it was not in the same directory as you showed in your video, is it because your video is old now or does it not matter and both these files are always in the same place even in old Mac computers? MRT was not in coreservices that you had shown in this video. I did a search and found the MRT file with a white circle and a dash across it, like to say you can't modify it (your one doesn't have that white circle with the dash across it) >>>the directory of this MRT file is in... (see below) Go>computer>HD>Library>Apple>System>Library>CoreServices>(and guess what was in here...that "MRT" with white circle and dash, also the "XProtect.bundle" is in here without the black arrow and if you ctrl click it, it shows package content, also I found "SafariSupport.bundle" and "CoreTypes.bundle") So what does all this mean exactly, why is mine different to yours? have I been hacked? what on earth is going on...:/

Hello Silvermica, sorry for the late reply.. no this is fine, the arrow simple mean this is an alias "a shortcut" and apple has move the MRT app to a new location, some system resources are unaware of this so apple have put a shortcut in here to save problems. you can "control click" this fine and select show original, it will take you to the new location of the file. the file location can change but still works the same way as described. the current location from catalina onwards? is "your HD"/Library/Apple/System/Library/CoreServices hope this helps and stay safe.

Clean my mac is OK for clearing some room and uninstalling unused apps and other stuff that come along for the ride but doest do a great job in dealing with Malware, however you probably haven't had any which is good to hear. I personally don't use app's like clean my mac as I like to do things manually and have experienced more problems in using them.

Hello There 1. I have used and very much like bitdefender as I have found it far more successful at removing viruses than other apps like sophos etc. 2. A valid point? some antivirus apps have known to cause several issues from external drives not showing, software not opening and more, with regards to website it is possible for antivirus programs to cause issues but this is more like a firewall problem? unless the website has rogue things running? 3. It would be unfair for me to say if you will or will not have problems as already mentioned I do not use antivirus software myself, however I have clients running avast without them experiencing any problems with what they do and others saying their MacBooks are running more slow? 4. If you are determined to run any antivirus software, I have tested many and personally think BitDefender is the best of the bunch, I have this installed just on an external diagnostics drive, which I boot from to clean infected Macs. hope this helps a little.

it is completely up to you to make a decision on what's best for you and peace of mind, I personally do not have any antivirus software on my MacBook which I take with me everywhere and experienced many more problems with clients that do, however I am cautious and use programs like Suspicious Package before i install any packages. I also have a very good firewall a good understanding of what's going on and a backup. I also have an external drive with Bitdefender install on it and use this to scan my clients machines that come in for repair, I periodically perform maintenance and scan my machine and in the last 10+ year never found a virus "touch wood"

Hello Lisa and thank you for checking out my youtube channel. im afraid having never used webroot it would be unfair to fairly comment, as with any software I personally would safe boot and use terminal. but to explain this via message and unsure of your knowledge in sudo commands could be too dangerous and you can really meet up your Mac. However I have found this in which I hope it helps. Please boot your Mac into Safe Mode and uninstall Webroot from there. Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! 1. Shut down SecureAnywhere by clicking the Webroot icon in the menu bar and selecting . 2. If prompted, confirm that you want to shut down SecureAnywhere. 3. Open the directory. 4. Click and drag the Webroot SecureAnywhere program icon into the in the dock. 5. A confirming window appears. Click . Webroot SecureAnywhere is now uninstalled. If this fails then please and they will be able to assist you with the uninstall of Webroot. Free of charge with your Webroot subscription. You can also Contact Webroot Support by phone.. HERE

Searchlee is a browser hijacker? I believe BitDefender can solve this problem for you, otherwise you will need to dive a little deeper an check your activity monitor. getting more info or a sample from the offending cpu hog often directs you to where the files are stored and can often just be deleted. but take caution and ensure you backup your data first?

my only guess at the moment is you have updated to Catalina or Big Sur in which case have you check the new location that is in Library,Apple,System,Library,Core Services? please confirm what OS you are using and if you have currently or previously installed any 3rd party virus protection software.
