You are a hero! I can’t believe the very first KZbin video I looked at solved my problem. A staple had cleverly disguised itself as part of the port...until I nudged it gently with the tweezers and it moved. My MacBook is now charging happily. I am so very relieved, and I can’t think you enough for posting this video.

Yes, a problem with strong magnetic connectors... they attract small specs of anything magnetic in both the chord and and in the receiving plug on the laptop as well as specs of dust. I cut a pointed wedge of non conducting material such as used credit card to poke bits out or a stiff toothbrush or a piece of "blue tack'. On a related topic, I bough a online magnetic adapter for the power chord connection to my android phone. Good idea until I realised the metal positive and negative plates attracted staples to short it out!!

thank you so much for this! I have been getting ready to buy a new cable and it was definitely a piece of metal inside that prevented the magnet for closely adapting. What an easy fix. Very very grateful.

Had the same problem, with the Magsafe connector rocking / not seating properly. It was a tiny black fragment of metal, like a poppy seed. Thank you!

Just as a comment, if there's any kind of metal debris it will make the connection weaker. I had the tiniest bit of stray debris in mine and as soon as I cleared it the connection was normal again. Don't panic! Thanks for the vid

Dear Abraham. I owe you a beer when the pandemic is over. The tech who looked at it this AM, said the chassis might need to be opened and the repair, might take 1-2 weeks. I was almost convinced I needed a new computer. It took me 25 s. with an alcohol swab, q tip, and fine tweezer. Simple. Thank you so much my friend!

I had similar symptoms of the mag 2 connector not securing properly and tried a few things to clear out the connector base, but not really with much effect. After watching this video, I took a closer look with a magnifying glass and cleaned out the base using tweezers holding a small piece of paper towel with alcohol and came upon a tiny (< 1 mm) piece of metal that was blocking the contact. Not sure if the alcohol soaked bit of paper towel helped pick up the fragment, but the video helped me understand the potential problem and hence find the solution.

Just like all of the other comments! Thanks you so much. I, too, thought this was a broken part in charging port. It was a random piece of metal!

Great video. I wished I had watched this last week. haha. I finally looked in the port and saw two little pieces of metal. Mine were not as easy to remove because of the magnetic strength but I did get them out finally. Thank you

Duct tape will clean all those little metal bits out of there, it's sticky enough to overcome the magnet.

NEVER disconnect by pulling on the cable, do it by pinching the MagSafe between finger and thumb, break the magnetic connection, and pull it off. If you want your MagSafe to last longer, add strain relief to every place where the cable may suffer excessive bending, as Apple have not engineered in enough strain relief. I use self-amalgamating tape and vinyl electrical insulating tape, but many types of tape are better than nothing at all. It's also worthwhile adding strain relief to the power brick itself in the form of 15cm length taped up. As well as removing any ferromagnetic detritus, you should also clean within the MagSafe receptacle itself with a stiff toothbrush with the bristles cut down to a few mm length. I know several cases of oxidation/overheating vicious cycle: sometimes the input board has to be changed just because of Jony Ives' stupid design. In your case your pins were not oxidised or stuck: I have had to use a powerful shaver as a vibrator to get the pins back out plus switch cleaner and degreaser. This is a classic case of form before function and Apple should have tested the power cable system out better. Thank you for the video!! I am personally glad Apple has got rid of these third-rate connectors.

I have two pins that are dark, and the adapter went from charging well to not charging at all very rapidly. I don't believe there was any moisture, but with a 3-year old anything is possible. Is there a way to repair the pins? They move up and down well and don't get stuck. I've tried taking apart the L-connector and cleaning them with alcohol, but it didn't help...

A far easier and better way to clean the port is with Blu Tack. Work it with your fingers till it's tacky, then put it in the port. It'll pull back out cleanly, bringing any metal shards and fluff with it.

Got laid off because I can’t afford to fix my computer. I have three kids and am on my own. We don’t have any food in the house and CPS is coming tomorrow to take my children and leave me to starve because I can’t get a job no matter how hard I try and I can’t even look for jobs because my computer doesn’t work and I’m writing this from a library of computers and it costs 5 dollars to use a computer for an hour here. I hate my life so I’ll be ending it once my kids are safe
