It's a parent's duty to raise, feed, clothe and educate the child that THEY decided to have until age 18. If you can't afford a kid, then think it over several times before deciding to give birth. If you want your child to pay you back for raising them, then you shouldn't have any kids.

I'm upset that this son paid his mother back for raising him. It wasn't the son who chose to be born nor was it his fault that raising a child cost so much. Parents who make their kids pay them back deserve to be put in their place.

Definitely! Children are not responsible for their being born and raised by their parents! Such greed is unbelievable! Helping your parents should be looked upon as a good thing if it's kept as a gift now and then. Or if a problem rises up. No way should it looked at as an obligation. It's just strait up greed!

@@patricialessard8651 that's the problem, from a young age, mother's "guilt" their children into thinking it is their obligation (and father's don't realize it) to hand over their 'paycheck' to her. It's not until later in life like this son they realize it. Why should they have to budget their life according to her if SHE can't do it herself? And even after being told NO, she still doesn't get it. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

According to my former lawyer, children are not responsible for their parents debt. This is was corroborated when my mother died. She had several medical bills including those for her last days. We were not required to pay these bills. A few creditors tried to make us believe that we were. However when I pushed back they were forced to acknowledge that I was right. A child could voluntarily pay the debts if the estate cannot pay them but they are not required to pay.

Good on Tracy for taking care of and protecting her husband from Linda. I hate parents like this who see their kids as nothing more than tools and investments to be used to "repay" them for being raised. MIL says: "You're not family. You have no right to be involved in parent-child discussions." Let's go with your logic. DIL is her family's sole source of income. Her family unit consists of herself and her husband, since MIL doesn't consider DIL family. MIL has xed herself out of being able to slide her hands into DIL's pockets. She can't have it both ways. *smh* If you can grow into a lifestyle, you can surely teach yourself to grow out of it when necessary. It's necessary!!!

I've never known an adult child to give their parent an allowance. From the sounds of things, Kevin is Linda's only child and Kevin and Tracy have only been married for a couple of months. That would imply that Kevin is probably in his mid to late 20s, so Linda is probably in her 50s. No reason why she can't get a job and support herself.

Until I started listening to these stories, I never heard of parents getting a monthly allowance from their kids. Is it a cultural thing? I don’t mean choosing to help your parents out if they need it, but expecting your kid to give you $2000 a month indefinitely. Especially this mother who has an inheritance and owns her house with no expenses to pay.

No child should pay their parents back for raising their kids ,but your husband could look up mental health support groups as a safety net for both of you and see a mental health specialist every few months . It works out if your husband finds a support group that welcome family members as well and it helps them as well and you meet new people who are in the same situation as yourselves .

MIL is the one who is stressing Kevin. She is not the center of his world the way she thinks she should be. My mother was like that about phone calls. She lives 500 miles away. She would call, and because she is toxic, I rarely would like to talk to her. If I didn't respond back within a time she thought was reasonable, she threatened to call my local police. I went no contact with her in June. One of her flying monkeys contacted me and told me she went to the administrator of the home for help to contact my local police. The administrator didn't do anything, thank goodness. Also, this MIL is good at second guessing their spending when she should look at her own. My mother enjoyed spending my annual vacation, no matter what I wanted. It got to the point where I was so stressed that I used up my sick time, then was permitted to use my annual in place of my sick leave. I had no annual leave for time off for myself.

I know that in many cultures the parents spare no expense to educate and care for their children. To the extent that there's no money for their retirement. In return for this care the adult children pool their resources to care for their parents. The parents live with the adult child who has the room. The grown kids kick in to pay for their parents' needs. This is why the mothers tried to have several children. Linda still has the house? Well, all she has to do is rent out a room or two, at $ 500.00 a month each. There's her $1000.00 allowance.

Personally, I think the only repayment a child is required to pay is living their best life. That’s all a good parent wants.

Every time I read these MIL stories, I realise why my two DILS love me! My parents tried to guilt me into running around for them, there's no way I'd expect anything like this, practical or financial! I'm not my sons' responsibility.

With all this talk of budgeting, I'm surprised that Linda let her financial situation get so bad. She obviously knew that budgets existed, but acted like she had a guaranteed income for life. No matter where your income comes from, a job or in this case a family member, you need to try to put something aside for the future. You can get fired from a job. You can have that relative get mad at you and stop paying, or something could happen to that family member, and they lose their job. A child should never have to 'repay' its parents for raising them, but that is a different subject...

Children do not owe their parents anything for raising them. I hate parents that think their child owes them money for eighteen plus years. Do these parents keep track of all the money they spent on their child? Vile.

Their are a lot of stories like this one on the internet these days and it is a shame that people take other peoples kindness as a weakness and that isn't the case at all. Just because someone is kind doesn't mean you can take what you want from them. My mom tells me all the time that I have to be careful who I am kind too or they will take advantage of me all the time.

I'll never understand parents that insist their kids pay them an allowance or whatever you want to call it when they are grown adults and need their own money to pay their own bills. That's not why we have kids. What is wrong with these people? I say this as a parent of four grown kids. That's not why I had kids. I don't expect them to pay my bills or pay be back for raising them. That's just stupid and entitled.

Neurotic mother can’t understand why her son is easily stressed and overwhelmed. So he reduces the amount he sends her and how much he talks to her, so he isn’t as stressed and she complains about it. Ends up getting cut off. 😂

This MIL is one greedy piece of work. She also seems to have enough time on her hands (rummaging through their trash), that she could just get a job. I'm wondering now about what killed her husband. 🤔 BTW, your parents' debts don't get passed down to you. Anything that they owe is paid off with assets they left behind, e.g., house or life insurance.

I'd be happy and thankful if my daughter was sending me 1k a month. She would do it cause she wanted to cause her and my friends know only time I ask anyone for anything I must really need it. Especially if I only had to pay utilities and still had my SSI. The 1k would take care if any bills, monthly pet needs, cleaning stuff and personal items for that month. Still leaving nice a amount if change left over. This woman just money hungry and I knew someone like this smh

No, Ma, the savings should NOT go to you, it should go to their savings account. If the DIL, the wage earner, isn't family, the guilt trip of 'my child owes me' doesn't apply at all. MIL should have quit while she was ahead.

Why do people accept this. In Ireland asking someone about their finances or income is just about the rudest thing you can do, even as an extended family member. Family finances are the business of the nuclear family alone and if anyone else tries to involve themselves they should be slapped down immediately, never entertained. Also the only person who should be ashamed here is mil, for trying to take the food from her grandkids mouths to pay for luxuries, instead of spending her inheritance on jt
